  • I'm moving into a new house and thinking about getting back into the aquarium hobby.

My plan is to clean up my old 29 gallon and make it into a convict breeding tank. For some dither/ targets I was thinking about 5-6 tiger barbs. I know some places online encourage this while others don't. Does anyone have any actual experience with this?

I see you have a convict with your barbs.

  • Tiger barbs are awesome and this tank is really nice. The video shows typical TB behavior and that they can get along with other fish IF THERE ARE SEVERAL TIGERS. This is very important!! They love to nip and squabble with each other and if there is not enough of them (4-6 minimum) they will nip tankmates and drive them crazy. I have a 55gal tank with 7 TB's and 4 long-fin black tetras (plus others) and the tigers have never cut up the tetras in over a year. Tiger numbers are important!!!

  • mine are fighting as i'm writing this ;)

  • Cool tiger barbs man. Theyre fighting for hierachy. To establish dominance. 5/5

  • i love tiger barbs there awesome.

goin to get a couple more tonight i cnt wait.

i have 2 so far there still pretty small but there growin really fast well the one is.

  • tiger barbs are so cool. what are the fish in the background at 0:10 ? i am not familiar with names.

  • Tri-color sharks.

  • there not tri-color sharks there called silver sharks, or bala shark's. very big species. shoaling fish in groups of at least 3

  • sumfinorother those are bala sharks

  • Also known better as bala sharks. THey grow to over a foot long if given proper care - which is why they almost never grow that long in aquaria

  • @blownable

Uh... Tiger Barbs and Bala Sharks are 2 different fish. Look it up.

  • Uhh, I know. If you had looked at macorine987's comment you will know that I know what I'm talking about. He mentioned tri colour sharks, and I mentioned to him that they were better known as bala sharks.

If you look closely in the vid you can see three of them. Look it up.

  • @blownable

    Oh, my mistake then.

  • thanks

  • i have the same set up but wt is the big striped one

  • Ahh, tiger barb sparring. A common sight! They're so fun. I love the sense of movement their shoaling adds to a tank.

  • I have a question I know u should keep minimum of 5 barbs. I have 5 normal tiger barbs right now, but do u think it'd be ok if I only get like 3 green and 3 albino and they will still be accepted in the shoal? Their not gonna be diverse or anything right? like sticking wit their own kind and end up nipping on fins cuz there's only 3 of the green and 3 of the albino? or would they all be 1 single shoal a total of 11 barbs as one?

  • lol, your barbs are very big for aquriam barbs ;)

    well done

  • my tiger barbs do this kind of fight. shall i let them go on or seperate? i only have 2 barbs and one of them is weak cuz he always gets his ass kick by the other one. he has a fin injury cuz the other barb attacks it and bites it what shall i do???

  • put more barbs in, when they have a big school, less fighting happen, and also the big one can pick on different barb instead of of just only one

  • i think tiger barbs are great, ive got 4 in a 100 gallon tank and trying to breed them now, hopefully soon I'l have a big school of them!!

  • Well since I don't grow tiger barbs alone mine stop growing at 8 or 9 inches. If you grow them alone in a 110 gallon and above.... well that depends how many you have. They grow pretty big they just need the room or they'll stop growing and die early.

  • how big do tiger barbs get?

  • 2 inches usually.

  • yea u might need a larger tank. I think its a little overcrowded with all the decor you have going.

  • lol, yeah right......this is just a small part of the tank, it is a 55 gallon dude

  • oh..well in that case!

  • i bought 5 small tiger barbs, and 4months later they only grew an inch, how long can a tiger barb be full grown?
