The two Pyramid Heads represent Jame's regret and self persecution for the two people he killed. He blames himself completely and wholly, and as a result the Pyramid heads manifest as his innermost demons. His greatest regrets. However, in the fight he learns to forgive himself. This is the result. The Pyramid Heads, having served their purpose, ended themselves.

Obviously, pyramid heads are monsters and part of the game. But the protagonist suffers from a psychosis, triggered by murdering his beloved wife, and all the monsters are hallucinations, so the pyramid heads can also be considered as incarnations of his tormented conscience.

As I said, it is a psychosis James is suffering from. I do not exactly know how it works, but some people with the disease of schizophrenia experience hallucinative episodes from time to time. I can imagine the developers of the game had similar intentions.

Maybe the death of James is only another symbol, like Pyramid Head itself.

I do not know, or maybe I got it wrong and the horrors in Silent Hill are real, but there are symbols of James suffering in each case. :D

Okay, everyone who deos not know why the Pyramid Heads commited suicide, READ THIS! The Pyramid Heads are a manifestation of James's hidden guilt (also sexual frustration, but that's another story) for killing his wife. So, the PHs serve primarily as the punishers. Thus, when James finally realizes and excepts his guilt for what he did, it renders the PHs useless. So, with their only purpose having been served, they have no reason to exist any longer. THERE YOU HAVE IT!

The Pyramid Heads in this game are not "normal people" turned into monsters, they never were humans at all. They are a manifestation of Jame's guilt, frustration, and so on. The Pyramid Heads are simply incarnations of James' worst feelings. Please, I find it quite offensive when people like you claim to know what you do not.

Hmm. Interesting, but a few scenes (is that the right word) before I killed eddie I went down into the prison labyrinth - ran to one end 'FUCK PH!' ran the exact opposite wa-- 'DAH aNOTHER one! Sone of a BITCH!' That's a pretty crude way of illustrating exactly what happened to me. The Eddie Pyramid Head theory appears to be fanon, but I couldn't help noticing that little incident violated the rule. I can't stress enough that Eddie was not dead yet.
