Wow, man… I'm in the process of scheduling a transplant and can't stop watching these videos! I'm nervous, but I'm most anxious about being awake throughout the procedure.
I have to have a transplant because of a botched LASIK in 2008. :(
@oliver18754 Hello Corey, I was excited with all the new technology in stead of taking 6 hrs. this was 1hr. half.,
and being awake aswell. after was'nt to bad alot of bed rest and some minor discomfort, but i could see stright away. I need to get my right eye done next it's been since 1968 and the Stig. is really bad. I hope this answers qestion. Take care. Buce
@minglemonkey Hello Yes I was considered leagly blind, I could see some blured shapes but most of the time I just listened to sounds to figure things out.

I'm having a cornea transplant in about 10 hours. Too nervous to sleep, so I am up watching this video for the hundredth time. Wish they would let me record mine.
@brucefloyd Thanks for that. I'm still crapping myself but it's got to be done so i'll have to just deal with it. I just remember the last time I had surgery and it was painful afterwards. And that was just squint surgery.
Could I just ask, did you have to wear contact lenes afterwards?
The consultant said there's a possibility of needing them after and I have a real problem with them.
@skeletorphd I don't remember it painful so much as unconfrontable, as far as contact lenses go i could wear them but i chose not to i like having glasses over my eye's, i could never get used to them. I need to get my right eye redone soon im blind in that eye, it was done in 1968 and the cornea is old now. should of got the extended warrenty plan. oh well it' seen alot of things in 43 yrs. god bless the person who donated it. where is Moorfield at?
Hi Max Bruce here All I can say is just relax be clam, its not that bad.
you will see things a little diffrent like, for me the everything was reversed white was black and black was white, and the Doctor will talk to ya as he goe;s along.
Try and get a video if you can. I need to get my right eye done soon it was done in 1969. good luck let me know how it went Thanks Bruce.
I'm having my cornea transplant in two days but I'm nervous because when I had my right eye don't back in 2003, I was knocked out. This time around I was told that I'm going to be conscious. Am i going to aware of what's going on? I know I'm not going to feel anything but just the thought that I'm still awake is not making me feel good at all.
I had this transplant in July by Dr. Mannis. THE SURGERY IS AMAZING!!! It's only 8 months and I can see 89% better! And my vision is still improving! Dr. Mannis is a GENIUS and has helped me tremendously throughout this procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Mark Mannis.
Ok, I have small eyes and I have to get this surgery on the 8th of febuary! I'm 15 and have corneal edema. Will the eye be bigger and easy to cut out the cornea?
i may have to have this done, i dont know though, but i have some type of connective tissue disease and apparently my corneas in my eyes are slowly falling out of my eyes and causing me to loose my vision...it may take a while but i will go blind, would this be what i need or is it something else that could cure this? Not joking connective tissue is like the glue of your body and mine is degreading basically im super flexible and thats bad...so its not bullshit sorry haters who are wrong.
Hi my name is BJ and I was suppose to be getting a cornea transplant about a year or two ago but I don't have the money to pay for it and my insurance won't pay for it and I have damaged my eye I have a corneal scar and my right eye was fine until I had a hanger incident when I was in middle school I really need this surgery
Mr. J this is Bruce, I got Caitconis witch causes the Cornea to grow deform and bluge out I was blind for awhile until I had the first two done 1968 and 1969.
for those I was out but the recoupe was six weeks at home and when your a 12 yr old it's tough to be still but I managed.
This last one was of course 1 1/2 hours I was a wake for it just a little disconfert.
and recouping at home wasn't to bad..
I still get chocked up at times when I look at a sunset or the mountins. Its to see
my brother is having this procedure done from some disease that makes his eye bulge out and its either this or go blind and i was wanting to know is it strange to see it all does it freak you out? does it hurt?
i wonder...i got this like so called tiny ball in my upper eyelid...i dunno what it is...maybe coz i rubbed my eyes too much ! it doesnt hurt...it can be seen from outside and inside of my eye....anyone got any idea?? thank you !
I am planning to get a cornea transplant but not because of an injury which is usually the case with most cornea transplants I am getting it because my corea is severely mis shapen. My cornea is so bad that doctors have a very hard time doing an orb scan om my eye. I also suffer from colobona of the optic nerve. I only have about 5 percent of my vision in my left eye therefore that eye is hopeless. I am actually getting the transplant in my right eye, my only good eye so I am very scared.
Hello with technogly the way it is try not too be.
My third one was only hour and a half and Iwas a wake for that one. I had choise forme it eather be blind our take the ricks.
My first 2 were done in 1968-69 third was done in 1996 left eye.
Im glade theres doctord out there that have the skill to do this kind of thing not to mention the donners. Take care good luck let me know how it goes.
Step one: crawl inside
Then the screws go on tight
Cross my heart and hope to die
stick a needle in your eye...

This does not look fun.
Do you have to be awake during the operation or is it ok to do it under general anesthetic.
I'm getting booked for mine at Moorfields.

Where do they get these extra corneas from :/?
Booshibonton 2 years ago
People that die and donate there parts for other people. to use I know this last cornea came from a 38yr old female from State of Organ.
Thanks for question.
brucefloyd 2 years ago
Is there such a thing as an artificial cornea? Grown in a petri dish or something?... the concept seems doable :/
Booshibonton 2 years ago
Not that i know of it's a tissue thing.
When they refine cloning better, maybe.
