Having to work away from home on a ship in the ocean for Christmas, leaving behind loved ones and children and not knowing if your loved one is still gonna be waiting. Every word of this song unlocks a picture in my mind of either myself or a poor young lad whos girl as found some one else. I used to love this song but now i think ,No woman no cry is more apt.

Such a great, though under appreciated songwriter. Rod always wrote with great wit and humanity. A profoundly moving song about loss and loneliness just before Christmas..Wonderful.
