I could listen to Patricia Routledge FOR HOURS! My first exposure to her doing this sort of storytelling was in "Mrs. Fozzard Finds Her Feet." I found myself transfixed on what would ordinarily appear boring. Bennett is a writing wizard. His material for Talking Heads is extraordinary, and will attract the admiration of generations to come! The combination of Routledge and Bennett = genius. Thank you for posting this.
Alan Bennett, along with Victoria Wood are two of The North's finest contributors to the genre 'observational humour'.And like Ms Wood,Bennett has that canny knack of picking exactly the right performers for his work. But someone commented here that he/she wished Routledge had recreated the role for "Ladies of Letters" replacing Anne Reid.I don't think Bennet wrote that series.I watched an episode yesterday & it was written by two females.Though of course I could be wrong.
I LOVE PATRICIA ROUTLEDGE IN ANYTHING SHE DOES. I WISH SHE HAD REPRISED HER ROLE OF VERA IN THE TV SERIES OF LADIES OF LETTERS. MUCH AS I LOVE ANNE REID, HAVING LISTENED TO THE AUDIO TAPES, I JUST CAN'T GET USED TO HER PLAYING VERA IN THE TV SERIES.
@Caprile91 What the hell are you talking about? Patricia Routledge is still alive, she's not dead. She's 81 years old and she ain't planning on slowing down anytime soon.
@Adam060756 You got that right, Adam ;o)! Patricia NEVER fails to amaze me . . . 82 years old now, and not looking a day over 70. What a remarkable woman!
Great that you posted this on you tube, its an excellent monologue, so thanks. You can purchase both 'Talking Heads' dvd's online. The second series includes another excellent Patricia Routledge monologue, where she plays a spinster involved in a rather interesting relationship with a chiropodist.
Have to disagree about the Hyacinth Bucket inspiration. Search for Victoria Wood's 'Kitty' character and I believe you will notice a closer resemblance.
How appropriate to be writing thank you for this. I'm sure this is an highly appropriate use of the new technology, for which many thanks, not that it's a patch on Basildon Bond.

She complains that he didn't reply back to her on a letter where she said that he didn't have to reply to her other letter.
Talking about a nuisance cause.

This starts off understandable, complaining for smoking at a time of grief, then develops into ridiculous harassment.

Some of his characters can he hard to study, depending on their facial expression and voice tone. I.e. Soldiering on with Stephanie Cole.

Adam, she would have read the story by Alan Bennett and then remembered the lines.

This sucks. No action sequences. No gunfights. No sex scenes. Might be nice to see Pat Routledge shed a few clothes.

Yes, definitely Hyacinth here, doing her bit for society! You're right. Makes me wonder if Hyacinth's mother might have been like this!
