Adams absolutely HATES the painting shown in this video @ 1:00 because it is very false of what REALLY happend.
The truth is that not everyone was present all at once during the signing of the constitution. The REAL history is that our country was at war, and everyone who signed the constitution did so when they could be in town, which in most cases was just for brief moments.
Historically accurate detail makes for compelling viewing. Giamatti and Linney are briliant. Giamatti seems so much like this decade's Tom Hulce: he's an actor of great passion and intensity that can in a moment melt into a soft tenderness and then harden into true resolve and grit--all within moments. Few actors can match this flexibility and feeling.
The music is good, but the video needs to be finished! Here is a suggestion for the next text: "Adams spoke with a power of thought and expression that moved us from our seats"--Thomas Jefferson on the great debate in Congress of July 1, 1776.
Adams was the workhorse of the American Revolution and he hasn't gotten the attention he deserved. I can't wait for the HBO special next month.
FL: I was driving around yesterday beautiful sunny day on NPR, all about John Adams. And the most captivating radio I had heard in memory. Some of what I remember. Jeff was the poet of the const, Adams the architect. Heavy lifting. The first patriot, 20 yrs before there was an Amer. Fascinating stuff. Contended that Adams never would have penned "pursuit of happiness". This rocked my noodle. Being a puritain, that happiness was vanity/pride where a man should place service before himself.
2 He wold have preferred Virtue; it being self-denial. The authors tail of how 'this most intelligent person of power in American History. ever.' So he's got to go to France for money and arms. French not his type of folk. So doesn't speak the language, and gets on the boat. [i recall TO Europe is much faster than FROM Europe.] Now in France, oh he taught himself French on the way over. He's in front of parliament. And a man asks him "Have yous beeen to thee Opera?"

Go to Bethesda's web site and you can download the soundtrack. The song is the theme for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, composed by Jeremy Soule
