Although this movie is not true to Dumas classic, it is a well acted rendition of the story. The 1975 movie version was closer to the book, but the delivery was off, in my opinion.
@skeijongen255 you can't film a book full stop. Not to say that a film based on a book can't be as good as or better than the book, but it can never be true to the book.
@Hangtime1221 Or has simply seen the 1975 version, or the French movie from 1999 or read the novel and realizes this movie has nothing to do with the original concept of Dumas.
I found the book hard to read at first. I didn't even get half-way through. But after seeing the movie I wanted to finish the book. I think both this movie and the book are good. <3
Great movie I only wish that priest and him had finished the tunnel and escaped together then have priest die like jumping off the ledge and drowning or something
@emmaknightley went to Cliffs of Moher where they filmed a small part from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which I didn't know until someone was talking about it behind me on the cliff! Ireland is a great filming location for tons of films. Glad to say Irelands now my 2nd home. Missing being there..
It was October 2002 and I was with my Youth Group at the AMC Theater in Hamilton, New Jersey. As soon as we were about to see Spider Man, the tickets were already sold out. So the teachers decided to have us watch the Count of Monte Cristo and since that very night, it has become one my most favorite films.
I love the film, "The Counte of Monte Cristo"!!! In the story, Jim Caviezal gives an outstanding performance in his role as, "The Count of Monte Cristo"! This movie is definitely one of my most favorite romance-mystery, ever to hit the big screen! Watch the film and allow yourself to indulged in the accolades of the Count of Monte Cristo's love, pain, journeys, adventures and of course the mysteries that surrounds his story. -Mme. Monique
@cocoque Haven't seen it, but just looking at this trailer I'd have to agree (though I'm probably going to watch it anyway)... I think I'd like this cast - he looks more like Edmund Dantes than Depardieu does in the '99 version, but a better adaptation (say a mini-series, because condensing an epic book like that down into a film couldn't possibly work well no matter how skilled the writer).
I never ever heard of this movie or story. I jus randomly zapped the tv and at first I just this guy getting hold up by a friend and getting arrested,I was like okay. Then the whole prison scene came,I just kept watching and from that moment I was just caught by the movie to the end. I just had to go to youtube and tell how interesting and good this movie even for somebody like me who doesnt even really watching this kind of movies.
I just read the book, and absolutely LOVED it, but can anyone tell me which version of the movie is best? I want to Netflix it, but there are like six different versions...lol...
Freakin' Love This Movie! I Love When He Finds Danglar And He's Like "I am the Cout Of Monte Cristo, But My Friends Call Me Edmond Dontes!" (: Best Movie EVER!!
@MEYERS3000 It's still a better tagline than the Clash of the Titans remake, "Titans Will Clash". Gee movie, thanks a lot! I would never have gotten that idea from the title of the movie!
oh and Brittas Bay beach is beautiful and pretty tucked away, so I can see how much privacy the crew and actors had.. same with Powerscourt house is also a private location next to The Ritz hotel.. I'm sure they spent a few nights there.
I went to some of those locations where this movie was filmed! I didn't realize the beach scene was filmed in Brittas's Bay beach in Wexford county, other scenes were filmed in Dublin, and Powerscourt house/estate and gardens, which is where I went and took pictures at. Makes me want to see this movie again!! I'm such a fan! :)
@shan4883 Brittas's Bay Beach is in Wicklow plus they also Shot in Ardmore Studios Bray Co.Wicklow, the interior of the Château D'If was built & filimed Malta to double for Marseilles France
@TheHanniballecterify you're right, it's in Wicklow way down the highway. Forgot how far away it was! I went there again in Oct. and was there from Sept. to Nov. this time with my boyfriend and miss the smooth sand out there! Was full of rocks when we went out again! Been to Bray about 20 times! Our favorite spot! Luckly, my boyfriends from Ireland, so I get to visit again next year! Will be my 3rd time in Ireland..
@Krillep if you watch the movie the you realise !spolier! that the priest has been in jail for a looooong time, because everyone thought he knew where the map was. apparently he did and so zattara =) asks him you lied all this time? and the priest replies "im a priest not a saint" meaning saints are completely truthfull and so on. =)
@wolfa73 I think that's a movie thing though... He was in prison for some other reason in the book, and the prison guards believed he was crazy and that his story about the treasure was just an old crazy man's ravings.
@wolfa73 Oh do, it's so good (long, but really good)! The film was so much different - loads of things were changed and there were characters left out and such.
@ElazhulBelmont, i don't see how anyone who has read either Les Trois Mousequetaires" or "Le Comte De Monte Cristo" can dislike Dumas. He was an excellent writer.
Excellent movie. My only complaint is that the scene where Fernand says to Villefort,
"Inform Mercedes that Edmond Dantes has been executed" and the line "I will change my identity" were cut from the film and that they were not included on the DVD as deleted scenes.
@101Witch101 they obviously did not, every movie based on this masterpiece is wrong!!!!!!!
once in jail Edmond does not learn fencing with Faria he learns languages, culture!!!after escaping he does learn the art of the sword, and Faria was nos a soldier but an abbot, Italian.
This trailer has many spoilers it basically tells all the film -___- LAME
