  • Thumbs up if you pronounce Barnes and Noble as Barnes and Nobles, with an 's' on the end of Noble.

  • fuck kindle,

  • Does anybody know when the 2012 gen is gonna come out?

  • @gwhizkids 2012?

  • dancesonpoles, there are millions of books out people all over the world have books, even if they stopped printing books they will never die because people dont throw books out, so there will always be many million out there getting read. E readers have their place, why not enjoy the best of both worlds.

  • get the nook color. its so much better!!!!!!

  • @kilala435 thats funny my friends name is james patterson funny huh?

  • I purchased the Nook about two weeks ago and love it - though I do understand what some people have complained about in not having the feel and smell of a book. It certainly is a nice concept come to fruition in sparing trees. One day, no longer will good pulp be turned into pap. It can save one a large amount of money with the ability to download so many great classics for free and think of the bookshelf space saved with the Nook. It's a fantastic device. Thank you Barnes and Noble.

  • Stephanie Meyer is one of the first authors to pop up...0:01

  • it saves tone of paper just like the kindle

  • "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of the first titles displayed at the first of the commercial. Can you get that on a Nook? Not unless it's a pirated copy...Harper Lee refuses to allow her book to be published digitally. The insinuation is that you CAN get this book. The lending feature is not "lend any book as many times as you want." You can lend about 1/3 of the available B&N books and only one time EVER. BN's "over 1 million books" includes 500,000 pre-1923 Google freebies. Caveat emptor.

  • @airstrip40741 its on the nook

  • ON NOOK It's Not Too Late! BY George D. Contakos

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

New book reveals to readers a simple process and basic principles that will help them change a current situation for the better. Order here It’s Not Too Late

  • check out squidoo.com/barns-and-noble-nook

    more reviews and info!

  • It's useful for on the go, but it can't compare to reading a real book.

  • you can't lend anyone a nook. liike my friend read pretty little liars and i wanted to borrow it but i couldn't enjoy reading the book because she had read it on the nook. :/

  • @lilytrujillo95 Actually not true. You can lend books for 2 weeks at a time. Friend can download software at BandN to read it.

I bought my wife this device because she CAN share her books with her mom.

  • So one day in the future...no more books....everything about reading is on a nook...so the future children...instead of txt books its on a nook? The nook is nice but at the same time lazy...I love reading but does it have to be this way? How long will it take to download a book more than 700 pages? They never said how fast it goes. And can it come in another color besides white??? How can it be YOU when its white? I'd like one in multi-color please!

  • @royjoytoy Printed books are going nowhere anytime soon relax.lol

  • @royjoytoy It only takes about 30-1 minute to download a book for me.

  • "Make it your own with photos."

    How?

  • I really want this! I Love reading and this would be so much fun. I understand why some would say this device may ruin books..but I don't think it will. I mean books have been around since the dawn of time, Nothing will change that. But anyways..I think the Nook looks simply amazing. It looks so fun! It will make reading even more fun. People call me a book worm.nerd now..Wait until I get this and have my face buried in it 24/7!

  • @chelsandiarebffs Lol I want to be your friend. I feel the exact same way!!!

  • this looks unsatisfying

i prefer regular books over that crap

  • anyone know what song this is?

  • anyone know what song this is?

  • A true book lover would buy the printed book. Although if you don't have time to read, I guess this is a good idea...

  • im seriously TORN between the Nook and the Kindle 2. i really don't know which one to get. there's things that i love about both of them. Such a decision...

  • This eBook is cool but not as colorful as the iPad. But they both offer importing the open and free .epub format. See my tutorial about that format here - just copy and past this to the video address above: vvGrFZdSDww

  • @jeremykemp You do realize the nook doesnt need color, most books dont have color.

and its unfair to compair them.

Ipad is sortof a computer and the nook is a book

    computer to book?

  • The speed of reaction shown on the video is not the real speed of the device, that's just misleading customers.

  • @SuperBigChina Very true. I have the Nook, and the speed is not all that great, but not entirely slow.

  • can you upload music from itunes? or what if you put cds into your computer and downlosd them?

  • Most B&N stores should have Nooks in stock now. I just picked up mine a couple days ago. I absolutly love it.

  • i heard that more nooks will be available in store...is this true? because i might get mine saturday or sunday

  • Does wifi cost money when you're not at Barnes and Noble? and does it cost money to look for books to buy (just look) using the nook??Thanks

  • @PanicRox11

Wifi is free of charge. If you are at your home and you have a wireless router, you can get signal and a connection on the nook. Also, you can get WiFi on any wireless network, if you have the user login information.

The 3G service is built in and is from AT&T. It is free of charge to use to browse barnes and nobles various tittles and books. You can also download a "preview" of certain books, free of charge.

  • @WoWfreak920 thanks =]

  • @PanicRox11 I got my nook today. Not very pleased with it and i'm sending it back tomorrow. The best I've used is Sony PRS 600. Small, light weight, and full touchscreen. Only con against it is the selection of books in my opinion are low. The Google Books thing is a joke. The free books is as old dirt.

  • @WoWfreak920 **is as old as dirt.

  • @WoWfreak920 thanks again. i want to look at pros and cons so that helped :)

  • hmmm.... just saw this video and was pleasantly surprised to hear my song in it... if you like the music check out Valeze and Tiffany Randol on itunes.

    cheers

  • "Nook, by some OEM manufacturer and featuring our name."

Haha... It's pretty cool. I got my first look the other day at one of our local stores.

I'll hold out for the "iSlate," simply because that's what will change the game. LMAO, I'd love to be Apple right about now.. "Okay publishers who refused to get on the e-wagon, JUMP!"

*Publishers promptly leap into the air*

But the Nook is still freakin' cool because of the eInk display! ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS display. I'll take that over a screen.

  • @ORUPRANKSTAZ

I think it's quite funny that you are waiting for the iSlate... err... iPad (LOL, greatest joke name ever, but it's real!!! can you say iPad with wings?)

What you don't seem to understand is on an iPhone XL, wait, sorry, iPad, it will have to display the white background, and not display the font... battery life will just plain stink.

Get a clue before posting your retardations. Your rant was as amazing as Apple naming their product iPhad... sorry, iPad!

  • @mdtaranto

Because no one made mp3 players before the ipod either.

And don't get me wrong - I'm ---NOT--- an Apple fanboy. I'm just making the point that iTunes is (still) the largest music retailer in a field that existed long before its launch. Now, you KNOW the RCA Lyra is outselling the iPod.. oh wait.. no it's not! Thus, one can infer that with the launch of the iPad (better than iSlate.. eww), Apple will snap up that market too. (Don't get me wrong, I like eInk better but whatever).

  • Oh, I agree, iTunes is a beast, beating out even Wal Mart at music sales... but you must look a bit deeper.

Apple makes decent hardware, but iTunes is crap! Most people don't see that their hardware is sold cheap so you use their cash cow, iTunes. ePub will ensure that Apple can't do that.

  • @mdtaranto

Don't count on it. Apple has become a mighty, mighty force (to the dismay of their nerd communities). Apple is a brand now, in the truest sense of the word. Powerful brands make powerful deals... That's not always good, either.. but eh..

  • Hurry up! Carrying 7 beast books to uni is killing my back. I need this thing.

  • Books take up too much physical space. This is a good replacement.

  • What was the name of the song from the Stop-motion commercial for this?

  • I am going to save up for this =O !!!

  • Comment removed

  • The physical book will go extinct like the dinosaur. It's inevitable. The same thing happened with typewriters, atrax, cassette tapes, etc. The future marches on and you might as well get used to it. I, for one, embrace it since it will remove the need for a library of countless old, decaying books lying around. Every book you get will be stored on a server so that if you accidentally break your nook/kindle, the books are still there.

  • @Garotte72 Physical books wont go extinct. At least i our life times. Theres room for both.

  • It's kinda sad to think that one day books wont exist anymore and everything will be done on computer.. Its just not the same feel.

  • It does save alot of paper, but that book smell and feel is just priceless and classic.

  • what if these could spray a fine mist at you that smelled like paper?!

  • @SkyletSnow NOt to mention the look of having shelves and shelves of books. I eBook just can't match that.

  • @dancesonpoles True, this is greatbut doesnt replace the physical book

  • @dancesonpoles The feeling is in the memories. Trust me. Reading will never change!

  • @dancesonpoles i really agree with u but if u look on the bright side, we wont hav to waste paper and cut down more trees than we hav too :)

  • @LOVECAKExoxo Tis true. Tis true. Unfortunately.

  • @dancesonpoles And if we keep killing trees to make books, one day THE WORLD will not exist.

  • @lovesualways ಠ_ಠ

  • @lovesualways thank you, Jesus people aren't complaining about not having to walk miles to work anymore

  • @lovesualways so ur not a fan of logging shows?

  • @lovesualways The world will exist, just not much life on it.

  • @dancesonpoles I totally agree holding that thin thing is NOTHING compared to holding a book feeling that paper and hearing that crisp as you turn the page AHHHH lol

  • when does this come out?

  • Think of it this way-- you are buying a bookshelf, and you need to buy books to fill that bookshelf.

  • Think of it this way - you are buying an portable electronic book reader, and you need to illegally download books to fill that portable electronic book reader.

  • @dontfuckthisup ur dumb, you have to pay for them

  • No, ur dumb, because I download them illegally every day. I have a shitload of books. You just have to know where to go.

    Trashface.

  • then they should make virtual libray :/

  • They do actually, I work at BN and you can enter any BN store and read any book they have available on the 3G network for free. Like you would be able to take a book off the shelf and read there for 4 hours you can on nook. The book is removed once you leave the store if you did not purchase it just like with normal book browsing at the store.

Employees don't get discounts, and I believe neither do members due to it being so low priced with all it's features compared to other E-readers.

  • @filiwian save trees

  • What's the point of getting an iPod when you can just get the CD's themselves without having to pay an extra $150?

  • @corbinleach

    excellent.

  • because book cost less on it, u can have multiple books at once without the bulk, its great for traveling, and you don't have to go to the store every time you need a new book.

  • The books come at an impressive discount. Bestsellers start at around 25 for a nice hardcover, here, you get them for 9.99!

  • If you are a member, you get HUGE discounts. :)

  • You can still get public domain for free...

  • I am gettitng this!!!!

  • There were eReaders before the Kindle AND the Nook, there are STILL other eReaders, and there will always BE other readers.

Who's really copying whom? This is a pointless argument.

Let's just enjoy the competitive differences! :-) This is capitalism at its best!

  • Exactly :D

  • Geez, this thing looks slick! :-)

B&N is becoming the Apple of the eReader world. Without the higher cost of hardware.

Now, they just need to lower the prices of some of the eBooks themselves! (E.g. the Dexter books, on which the Showtime show Dexter is based, are a couple dollars more expensive than they are on Amazon Kindle...get competitive B&N!).

  • is the experience the same as reading a regular book? does it feel cramped? I wish the get rid of the bottom screen and just maximize the reading space.

  • yeah, making the nook available in a larger size would solve that solution, too bad there is only one size though

  • It's at barnes and noble i want one really bad

  • this is a nice device really. the size of this makes me bring a small bag with me instead of just placing it in my pocket.

i would suggest them to make a smaller version as a second option. Somehing like pocketable, with 4 inch touch screen e-ink display and 9mm thin and will last for 7 days with 1 gb memory and they'll sell it for a cheaper $200 flat.

  • They have something like that on market already. It's called an iPhone :) Don't know bout nook, but there's a Kindle compatible app

  • no, i know iphone and itouch, iphone will lasts two days for reading i think, and there will be eye fatigue after a period of time because of the lcd's glare, it costs three times more for an e-reader. So it's not it.

  • I'M SOLD!!!!

    Where do I buy one?!?

  • this looks good but they totally stole the idea from the kindle

  • They weren't trying to be original. They're just refining the idea of an electronic reading device into their own product. Sony has one too.

  • i know sometime is ok to steal an idea and create something more advance and efficient

i was going to buy the kindle two days ago but now i would switch to nook

  • Touch screens are better than symbian type devices. Because they can update freely, whereas other ebooks have to upgrade their entire hardware to encompass the system software. You can't stick a new button on your phone, but you can with a touch screen! So this is looks like it's relatively easy to upgrade. Although it's not entirely touch screen, so somethings will have to stay the same :D

  • Does this work beyond the usa territories?

  • It works overseas.

  • Id rather get nookie ;D

  • Awesome Gadget

  • gggaahhh i want thisss! lol. its kinda expensive thoughh, even the iphone is cheaper. i thinkk..

  • Think I'll wait to see what Apple comes out with. They have a tendancy to blow others "out of the water" with features. Might be worth the wait or, like the others, to expensive. Seems like ebooks books should be cheaper. Less production cost. IMHO

  • Sadly it's the publishers that set the prices. :( I agree that it should be around $5 instead of $10. But the store, the author, and the publisher want cuts.

  • You're paying for the intellectual property and less the tree and ink.

  • Agreed, but what might they call it? MacBook is already taken, ha.

  • Although ebooks will be 9.99 or so, and less expensive than a hardcover, its more than a soft cover. I hope they can adjust the price once a book's soft cover is released.

  • Because it supports WiFi, it would have been nice to have a simple web browser. Lack of keyboard would make it cumbersome. The Apple iPAD could be a choice come Feb. It will cost more but like the iphone, it will constantly improve as you download updates. I wonder if the Nook will receive updates like the iPhone, always evolving and improving.

  • I really want one of these, but this video seems a bit misleading.

It shows the book scroll moving fluidly and smoothly, and the buttons responding instantly. In every live demo I've seen, the books scroll in a very, very choppy manner and the buttons take about 3 to 4 seconds to register and complete the command issued to them.

Which should I believe? Is it really this fluid now, or are they bluffing?

  • I noticed that too! That the lag isn't evident from this video, and so I kept replaying segments to figure out if the finger was CG-ed or something, haha. I think it's 2 video superposed together.

  • They're bluffing. My mom just got one and as you said, its choppy and takes a bi to load to the next page.

  • They have benn showing bits and pieces of this nook, but never a complete show of everything. When is it coming out? Does it have Wi-Fi? Does non- AT&T users be able to use it on the go? Can you transfer Word doe. or PDF in to? How does the music player work? I guess I'll just have to wait and see. But there is another question, is Apple helping to advertise this new product or is Barnes and Nobles being a copy cat?

  • It is coming out by the end of November. Yes it has Wi-Fi connectivity. Yes non-at&t users will be able to use it. You will just be connected to the AT&T 3G network while you are not connected to Wi-Fi. Yes you can read PDF files to it, but not word documents. I am not sure how the music player functions yet. Apple has no affiliation with nook - they are releasing their own e-reader at some point.

  • Yes, well, 95% of the country does not have access to AT&T's 3G network. How slow will downloads be for the rest of us? Have to use our PCs?

  • The files are not all that big as you can store ~1500 books on only 2gb of memory. So even if the 3G connection is a bit slower then normal you should still be able to download it. Otherwise you can connect to your own wireless connection or another Wi-Fi hotspot while you are out.

  • download books in pc and transfer to it

  • It is like they asked me what I thought was wrong with Kindle 2 and what I would improve and then said "you got it, and on top of that, we'll put a color navigation touch screen to boot!"

    Awesome.

  • does it have wifi ? what about its library ? is it as good as amazon's ? i have no experience at all with ebooks

  • yes it has wifi and they already have 1 million book for it and amazon only has 350 thousand so far.

  • I was "thisclose" to buying a Kindle until I started reading about the Nook. The big points for me were the 1mil+ titles available, the fact that they have free ebooks that I will ACTUALLY read, the SD slot, and-my personal favorite reason-compatibility with my Blackberry. I hear some people complaining about the price. I compared the price of an ebook I wanted on both sites. Amazon actually was higher ($14.25) than the BN version ($9.99). Aren't the ebooks on BN about to get a price cut anyway?

  • I hate how they're bragging about features that are pretty much universal amongst ebook readers, as if B&N were the first to come up with those things. Hey my Kindle2 has a easy to read e-ink display and 3G wireless! I fear the masses are going to accept that propaganda though and start calling every reader a Nook in the generic sense.

  • Finally an ebook reader that also takes PDF and an SD card. Count me in!!!

  • all ereaders does that weird flash thing because that's how the display works. everytime, the flash rewrites the screen so no as of now, no technology surpass this device.

  • Never been the first to comment before, but this is what I've been waiting for...love it!
