You can only get DOLBY DIGITAL AC-3 5.1 on YOUTUBE this site doesn’t support it! You can however get DOLBY STEREO MATRIX or 4.2.4 that is four channels encoded into two and decoded with licensed DOLBY® Technology.

I don't know why some of you say optical/coaxial connections are needed. I am set up with a stereo connection into a surround receiver set on Dolby Pro Logic II, and it worked just fine, with sound coming from the correct speakers.

Well since this is downmixed dolby digital to 2 channels and I am using the DPLII decoding.. considering that it is working.. wouldn't you agree that they are somewhat compatible? I'm assuming that Dolby Digital downmixed to 2 channels will have the surround information out-of-phase and it will come out the rear channels again even though it's not discrete. I think we both understand what we're trying to say, but then misunderstand what the other says, and that's it. I know it's not discrete 5.1

I believe it's meant to be a virtual surround sound test for your headphones on left and right.

Also, a 5.1/7.1 set up needs to have the green, orange, blue, etc wires connected to their appropriate jacks.

With HQ it should play surrounds as surrounds. With HQ turned off it's mono so everything comes from front speakers.

Strange I've tried other surround tests, and all of them get my center speaker as the left rear and right rear. This one actually plays the rear sound through the correct speakers, not the center. At least I know my SB X-Fi soundcard is doing just as it's supposed to, must be the other sound tests are messed up. I have an X-Fi Sound card and my sound goes out through the front S/PDIF to a Kenwood 5.1 A/V Receiver.

That's Dolby Pro Logic! The original video may have been in Dolby Digital. But this was re-encoded. Everything but the subwoofer work though.

I wonder if you upload the raw digital signal from a DOLBY DIGITAL soundtrack that would require a DOLBY DIGITAL decoder put the signal the output would be RCA phone to say coaxial RCA input on the AVR I wonder if that would work, or would it fail, I don’t know because I haven’t tried? If it does work it would only be raw digital noise nothing less then all I’d have to do is plug the output from pc to AVR DIGITAL input for DOLBY/dts and hope the decoder can latch onto the signal without the signal breaking up, if the signal breaks up I’d imagine they’ll be loud popping sounds or thumbs I don’t know, because Youtube is very unreliable because the site often has bad lagging issues.
