Coral shrimp: I think we can work this out peacefully. Here, why don't you just take my ENTIRE LEFT ARM? There ya go, I didn't need that old thing anyway! Monoplegia's the way to go nowadays! *derp face*
If you also thought that maybe you might be the only one who loves eating shrimps so much.... The Mantis Shrimps likes shrimps too. Oh my!! Yummmmmmmmm!
hahaha the banded shrimp got one good nip a the mantis the he lost his arm he was drug in the the cave of death and lost his other arm..then his dissapered in to the cave of death and died
question, exactly HOW does a mantis shrimp attack? judging by its striking movement, it looks like its using something on its mouth to flick its prey REALLY hard to inflict damage. im currious, please respond.
Sure, if I was going up against someone who could shoot (possibly) plasma propelled pockets of water, only with my claws that I could regenerate in a month. Heck, I'd just say take my damn claw, I choose life.
Coral bandit shrimps use their claws like lizards use their tales for defense, e.g. a distraction. Coral Bandits even sometimes loose them in shipping. They almost ALWAYS grow back.
@NorCalCorey F*cking crazy. It was like he was saying "Here... come onnnn... take it... commmmme onnnnnn take i..... aha I got.... no I don't Shit. Now you have one of my arms... RUN AWAY RUN AWAYYYYY." hahaha I was thinking that it must be done on purpose. He fucking ripped it off before he punched him that last time, in slow motion it is clear. I knew he had to have a reason. Thank you for clearing that up... I have homework to do and otherwise I would have been distracted by this all night.ha
@ExtremeToothDecay I saw a documentary where a blue-ringed octopus killed a Mantis Shrimp by going around from the opposite end of the tunnel and injected venom. The shrimp was dead in an instant.
It's said that they can feel pain, but not the way we feel pain.
Was an interesting fight, although I kinda feel bad for the shrimp though. I would've let it go after it tore its own arm off, that was pretty hardcore.
@unspokenrespect He pulled it off so the mantis would be busy eating it long enough for him to get away, but since this isn't in the ocean he obviously couldn't.
I agree that is a very plausible outlook that almost certainly would of worked in the ocean. Evolution is amazing. It is like a lizard leaving it's tail behind.
In a pet store i only saw some of a mantis behind a rock and thought he looked really neat... and wondered why he was in a tank by himself... i rubbed on the glass a little to get his attention and i found out why, i didint realize how big he really was, watching these videos makes me like them less than i did before, so much for a cute face these things are vicious... lol
i just cant get my head round it, i've come back to watch it again, why would it pull its own claw off and pass it to the shrimp, i cant believe its that intelligence it's thinking "give it a little and i'll live to fight another day" you would think the last thing it would do would be to lay down its weapon and why then doesn't hide somewhere, it's really vexing me out, great video
It is interesting, I agree. One wouldn't think the shrimp would be that intelligent.
I suppose it is just a technique the coral shrimp has evolved, and not "thought" (more of it's ancestors live to breed if they do this action when attacked, etc).
The mantis really was distracted for a long time playing with the claw. In the ocean, the technique would have worked for sure.
@ExtremeToothDecay yup just enough time to scurry off to another hiding spot. its very cool. A lot of these same types of shrimp are still the exact same way they were millions of years ago...just smaller. If it aint broke dont fix it.
The shrimp purposely pulled his own claw off to give to the mantis as a defense move, then thought he could scuttle away. But this aint the open ocean and there is no were to run! lol
