  • That would be difficult, because mantis are salt water and pirhana are fresh.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay oh i didnt know...

  • @kylaroxd

they are also not in the same weight class.

  • damn thats total rape right there people!

  • if i was a coral bandit i would rather give up my arm than being completely killed by an mantis shrimp that uses hokuto shinken.

  • I like how the mantis litters the front of its hole with trophies of past victims. (the shell from the hermit crab)

  • PLEASE! just take my arm and spare my LIFE!

  • hahaha the banded shrimp got one good nip a the mantis the he lost his arm he was drug in the the cave of death and lost his other arm..then his dissapered in to the cave of death and died

  • that banded shrimp pulled his own arm off and said fuck this man

  • YOU WANT MY ARM??? HERE JUST TAKE IT

  • question, exactly HOW does a mantis shrimp attack? judging by its striking movement, it looks like its using something on its mouth to flick its prey REALLY hard to inflict damage. im currious, please respond.

  • It has a hammer like weapon that it cocks and releases extremely fast.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay something like a crossbow.

  • shrimp scampi

  • 2:40 GIVE ME MAH CLAW BACK!

  • lmao that fish was like " uuuuhhh... i didnt see anything just please dont eat me!"

  • hosed.....

  • Sure, if I was going up against someone who could shoot (possibly) plasma propelled pockets of water, only with my claws that I could regenerate in a month. Heck, I'd just say take my damn claw, I choose life.

  • Ha ha........take my arm, and not my LIFE! lolol Love the empty shell shot at the end. It's almost like he's showing it to you.....LOL

  • Coral bandit shrimps use their claws like lizards use their tales for defense, e.g. a distraction. Coral Bandits even sometimes loose them in shipping. They almost ALWAYS grow back.

  • This one never grew back.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay Are you SURE?

  • @ExtremeToothDecay never had a chance

  • @NorCalCorey F*cking crazy. It was like he was saying "Here... come onnnn... take it... commmmme onnnnnn take i..... aha I got.... no I don't Shit. Now you have one of my arms... RUN AWAY RUN AWAYYYYY." hahaha I was thinking that it must be done on purpose. He fucking ripped it off before he punched him that last time, in slow motion it is clear. I knew he had to have a reason. Thank you for clearing that up... I have homework to do and otherwise I would have been distracted by this all night.ha

  • I was really scared when he punched his arm off.

  • AVP

  • Fish: "And the winner is....Mantis!"

  • nice aquarium u got there

  • how big was the coral banded shrimp head to tail

  • 2-3"

  • @ExtremeToothDecay ok thanks

  • banded shrimp:here!...just take it!...lemme go!

mantis:om nom nom nom nom nom

  • Holy F man hes right, that shrimp literally cut its own arm off and handed it to the mantis lol, shrimp had guts gotta give em that :P

  • will it grow back?

  • That shrimp was either suicidally inclined or retarded.

  • Maybe he thought he could take the mantis. Only one way to find out.

  • look shrimp eating shrimp

  • @ 3:20 the coral banded shrimp is like, "But I don't wanna go into the CAVE OF DEATH!"lol

  • boxing shrimps. love it

  • is there any predator of the mantis shrimp in nature??

  • I know puffers eat them. I expect octopus do as well.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay I saw a documentary where a blue-ringed octopus killed a Mantis Shrimp by going around from the opposite end of the tunnel and injected venom. The shrimp was dead in an instant.

  • Yeah, I read once that a blue ring has enough poison in 1 bite to kill 250,000 crabs.

  • @shadow7989 puffers, eels, octopus (biggest nemesis), triggerfish, lionfish

  • i like how the fish was watching the coral baned shrimp get pulled in the burrow like O_O.. and took off

  • Its the Hermit crab shell from the last video lol

  • did the coral banded shrimp just give the mantis shrimp its arm?

  • It's said that they can feel pain, but not the way we feel pain.

Was an interesting fight, although I kinda feel bad for the shrimp though. I would've let it go after it tore its own arm off, that was pretty hardcore.

  • Have you ever had you're mantis beaten?

  • they grow they arms back. when the grow outta they're skin.

  • The mantis shrimp was always going to win. Especially when his opponent was so...

    *Horatio glasses*

    ...harmless.

  • yyyeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!!

  • yeah it really looks like hes just like" here just take it i didnt like that arm anyway"

  • He ripped off his own effing arm as a peace gift in vain! O.O

  • very cool video...one of the coolest ive seen

  • my Thoughts at 00:30 .... this be a dead shrimp

  • could you imagine how scary it would be if 10 of these fuckers attacked you while you were walking in knee deep water?

  • yo do know this makes you slightly disturbed to film these things right ? lol

  • Nah, I was disturbed before I started filming them...

  • do u rekon the it feels pain, like when its arm got rpped off

  • I do not.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay You are saying you don't believe they feel pain?

  • That is what I am saying. But, of course, no one knows. That is just my guess.

The reason I guess that is because, it seems to me if crustaceans felt anything like "pain", they would not be able to rip thier own arms off.

  • lol that freaking funny the comment and stuff the like here take it mantis wait i want other arm *munch* now body hehe

  • he take my arm just let me go

  • @thesparitan Mantis Shrimp = THE ULTIMATE MUGGER! "Gimme all of your arms!"

  • did he jua st take his arm off and hand it to him look closely its like WTF????

  • hahahaaa it totally did...lol

  • holy CRAP

  • Lol. The Coral Shrimp jerked his own arm off. He was like f*** this.

  • the fish was like heys you need help buddy. fish was like oh shit never mind gotta run haha

  • Heh. He was like, "I'm outta here!"

  • Wow his blow was still fast in slowmo to catch the blow when he ripped off the arm. At 2:00 the shrimp offers his arm in mercy.

  • thats mest up

  • lol at the end the whole Coral banded shrimp disappeared. Into the mantis's Layer >:)

  • that nigga aint even trying

  • The CLACK sound the mantis shrimp makes is awesome.

  • that shrimp will attack anything

  • He blows his claw off.

    Pwned.

  • It looked like he pulled his own arm off and gave it to him so he would show mercy.

  • @unspokenrespect He pulled it off so the mantis would be busy eating it long enough for him to get away, but since this isn't in the ocean he obviously couldn't.

  • I agree that is a very plausible outlook that almost certainly would of worked in the ocean. Evolution is amazing. It is like a lizard leaving it's tail behind.

  • @unspokenrespect guess he offered his arm to buy some time to get away

    -> 3pic f4il in an aquarium

  • da shrimp had homefield advantage! lol dat was awesome!

  • In a pet store i only saw some of a mantis behind a rock and thought he looked really neat... and wondered why he was in a tank by himself... i rubbed on the glass a little to get his attention and i found out why, i didint realize how big he really was, watching these videos makes me like them less than i did before, so much for a cute face these things are vicious... lol

  • But why was it sticking around the cave opening when it knew the Mantis was there...?

  • its has nowhere to go the mantis has more than one cave

  • That is absolutely insane. I've never seen anything like it.

  • you know if you buy the king of the sea (Sharks) Vs Mantis. that would be a huge battle

  • 3:23 fish is like u guys shouldnt be fighting

  • Because if the branded did not then his whole body would have been dragged in. Collateral Damage.

  • @ddvs83 this is exactly right.you witnessed sacrifice for sake of living...shrimp would regrow it back anyways.....just like lizards loosing tails

    awesome!

  • i just cant get my head round it, i've come back to watch it again, why would it pull its own claw off and pass it to the shrimp, i cant believe its that intelligence it's thinking "give it a little and i'll live to fight another day" you would think the last thing it would do would be to lay down its weapon and why then doesn't hide somewhere, it's really vexing me out, great video

  • It is interesting, I agree. One wouldn't think the shrimp would be that intelligent.

I suppose it is just a technique the coral shrimp has evolved, and not "thought" (more of it's ancestors live to breed if they do this action when attacked, etc).

The mantis really was distracted for a long time playing with the claw. In the ocean, the technique would have worked for sure.

  • Not as intelligent enough to get off my dinner plate but that was a really really smart move for the shrimp.

    well done.

  • @ExtremeToothDecay yup just enough time to scurry off to another hiding spot. its very cool. A lot of these same types of shrimp are still the exact same way they were millions of years ago...just smaller. If it aint broke dont fix it.

  • Can the shrimp fight back or was it more of a punching bag?

  • can i have one of these baby shrimp in a glass tanks?

  • 2:33 aaahhhh let gooo

  • UFC 111 MANTIS VS. LESNAR

mantis shrimp wins by ko. a huuuuuuge ko.

  • at 3:00, the shrimps like, "ahhhh shit...."

  • it looks like the shrimp pulls its own claw off at 2:14

  • @RoflLolzzz yeah i think he wanted to give the mantis his arm to have a chance to flee

  • The shrimp purposely pulled his own claw off to give to the mantis as a defense move, then thought he could scuttle away. But this aint the open ocean and there is no were to run! lol

  • That fish was like, "Hey guys what's up-- Oh.. shi.."

  • haha at 1:59 the shrimp like here take it
