  • Tell the camera idiot to take a video recording class.

  • C`est une très belle version, j`adore Chopin je tente d`apprendre cette pièce!

  • Beautiful

  • This is one of the best performances of this song I've heard and considering this is my single favorite piece of classical music of all time, that's saying something. The only critique I could offer is it feels just a little rushed in pace around 2:45-3:00 as it picks up there.... Beyond that it's seriously one of the best classical performances I've heard period. Beautifully done.

  • I imagine that the way you play this Nocturne must have been how the feminist writer, George Sand (lying under Chopin's piano and smoking a cigar as Chopin played) heard this piece.

    Great job.

  • you are fucking amazing! so many hacks on youtube butchering the hell out of this piece. great work!

  • i just got the sheet music.

I can't wait to play it!

  • @nocturnalpianist enjoy!

  • Where can I get this sheet music from?

  • Wonderful tone, but it is too brisk. Listen to the Horowitz version. He brings out the subtle, haunting beauty in this piece.

  • @htshoward Let's hear yours

  • 24 people missed the arrow on the dislike button lol

  • My piano teacher has always taught me to play with "expression", its not just about the correct notes and timing, its about how you play the music. Your interpretation I guess... always play with emotion. Happy, or sad, its like a story. starting at about 1:35 its like this is the sad part, then at around 1:48 it starts to get happy again and climax. Wonderful job by the pianist.

  • @fireballzofhell i think there's no happy part in this piece, full of melancholy, but its okay , every pianist have his/her different way :)

  • Nicely played but her swaying annoys me

  • @Elixer25 its about the sound.....

  • Bravo Eva!! I'm amazed how perfectly u've played and with such a passion. That makes a big difference on all the other pianists

  • Beautiful performance !!! I loved how you played with such deep feeling I am amazed at how people can play living the music with such passion !!! Loved it.

  • soo beautiful it makes me want to cry !

  • I've been trying to learn this and I just can't get past that middle part with all the trills. She makes it look so easy...gah!!

  • @essence979

i have EXACTLY the same problem! exercise exercise exercise, no other solution ... .

  • i like hearing someone else play this, rather then hearing me play it myself

  • this song is so harddd

  • @unionville123 Hey hey now...its not...take it easy...to get all the way through the piece you need to first always have confidence ..never say hard and cant...just have to practice it a lot. so triplets in the left hand through out this piece OK...there is usually only one note on the down beats...so the minor difficulty is putting two in the right hand against three in the left k?....the only next difficult thing is a few small runs.the key is to always play your left hand the same and fitnote

  • Nicely played, more difficult than it looks

    Thanks

  • i love this piece!! reminds me of my first love every time i hear it

  • This is a beautiful and moving performance. Thank you.

  • wooooooooooooow .. this is Chopin ! Full with passion, volcano of feelings, melancholy, tenderness , storm and depression and all the time unbelievable thirst for love - to give and get .

    This performance is amazing !

Thank you for this wonderful video !

  • Superb.

  • This is very well done, a little fast for my taste. Arguing about speed, however is a moot point. I LOVE the sensuality and passion in this piece and Eva does a wonderful job of carrying that through.

  • Obviously you're an accomplished pianist, but geez! You can slow down! This is supposed to be an introspective, thoughtful piece. No need to rush.

  • This song is so hard to play.

  • its too bad people wait for a movie to come out to know anything about chopin.....i play him and i havent seen the movie, probably never will

  • The Pianist, Great movie!:)

  • Happy 200th birthday, Chopin.

  • I'm almost there! And i am 43! Yipeeeee!

  • This music can be found in the hallmark movie "the secret garden" It's the main theme and i never would have found out if not for youtube. Spectacular music

  • It doesn't matter how old you are when you learn to play a song like this..its how you play it...just because you can learn notes doesn't mean you can play piano. She played this beautifully with great feeling which is something most younger people don't understand

  • Why is everyone so negative on here? It's tiresome, the way people act on here. This song is beautiful... Can't we just appreciate it? :)

  • iam 28 and never will learn this Song.

  • congratulations, but what does that say really? That you are one of the lucky persons, having the chance to learn piano very early, having support by parents and/or to do so. I hope you are also able to realise the deep human emotions that such music should express, because if not, it's not worth anyting and not more than sofisticated noise (if deep human emotions are not epressed by it, and not only shown/played, but real ones)

  • @LisaC933,

I know u are my bestie but y boast?? Miss ya heaps

  • If you are not born then how can you be here now? where are you messaging from?

  • iam learning this and iam not even born

  • xDDD

  • im learning this song and im thirteen :)

    this is beautiful.

    simply breathtaking.

  • im learning this right now and im ten!

  • ...meraviglioso Chopin...

  • A beautiful piece.

  • this is amazing! I love the feeling you put into the piece! The atmosphere is really intense! I'm learning this piece right now and I want to be just as good as you playing it!! ITS AMAZING!!!!!!! YOUR AMAZING AT PLAYING THIS PEICE!!!!!

  • i'm learning this piece now and i find it quite difficult. this is brilliant

  • Utterly Breathtaking

  • I'm sick of playing on digital pianos :( i want to enjoy music the real, acoustic way. Thanks for posting this, very beautiful music. ;-)

  • i think that you are brilliant at the piano!!! love your playing!!!!!

  • this was very lovely.

  • Brilliant!

  • hermoso

  • I love this song!!

  • Wow.. while I may never be an expert in classic piano technique, I can certainly appreciate a well performed piece of music.

Beautifully done, and the pianist makes the video especially worth watching (as well as listening).

  • itzwicks, you know MORE than ALL the stupid critics who know zero. You can appreciate a beautiful piece of music; they can't. All they do is bitch and moan, bitch and moan. I'm sure they don't even appreciate life. They should just kill themselves and end it all since nothing seems to be pleasing to these career complainers.

  • No matter how many ways or how many times I hear this song I am mesmerized and placed in a state of total peace! My only regret is that I am just discovering the beauty of classical music!

  • Very nicely done. One of my favorite versions (horowitz is the #1)

  • Fuck you.

  • appleseed, Fuck YOU! Fuck your mum, your sis, your cousin, your dead grandma.

As I always say, those with no talent always insult those who DO. You are a talentless LOSER who will get NOwhere in life; well, maybe prison....

  • You mindless fuck. You realize that my previous comment was directed towards pbk360? Not the pianist? Jesus fuck.

  • appleseed82694, Ooops! Sorry, mate! You have to indicate that on your comment; otherwise, it looks like you're insulting this lovely lady.

  • appleseed, yes, i see now that your comment falls under that moron's pbk360. i guess i had a computer glitch at the time of my remarks and didn't notice. but chill, brother. you know i didn't mean that for you if you were directing your anger at that 7 year old-minded idiot. lol

  • pbk360, You comment is that of a 7 year old brain, so I believe you're 7. PLUS, your video shows that you believe in ALIENS! ROFLMAO! So one can expect an idiotic comment like this one from a 7 year old retard. You never even saw a piano, you tard. Where are your competition videos? LMAO! It's so true that those with NO talent always mock those who DO. Fucking loser. You'll never amount to anything.

  • Haha it's all good dude. All is forgiven. Except for that piece of shit pbk.

  • appleseed82694, no prob. So true about pbk. He is one miserable bastard! lol

    Take care.

  • okay sure whatever.

  • te hard opgenomen

  • briljant

  • I'm a pianist myself, I have my student learning this piece. While you do play it beautifully, a view pointers would be to make sure you remember it is Andante (walking pace) througout the song, when you get louder you speed up make sure you watch your timing, lastly watch your dynamics. Keep going! You're almost there! Best of luck!

  • well it is a romantic piece so you can have rubato if you want, you don't have to play it totally rigid the whole way through, I thought the dynamics were just finethey were very song-like and natural and if you are a pianist as you say you are, you should know that this is not a 'song' like you said, but a 'piece'

  • Nocturne. Look it up. Its wrong. Sorry. Rubato is not intend with a laid back "piece"... to use the title piece the pianist or musician must give it the title piece. The bass clef overpowers the treble too often and the graces notes are sometimes played as thirty second notes. The three against two melody is very tricky and it is not always correct. Too much rubato. Period.

  • A nocturne is a piece duh! And you can't really lecture me on calling a Nocturne a piece when you're calling it a song. I don't have a clue of what you're talking about when you say ''Rubato is not intend with a laid back ''piece''...'' because it does not make any sense so maybe you could rephrase that to tell me what you mean. OK, yeah, sometimes yhe bass cleff is too loud but those grace notes are on the strong beat so they would be longer than the (comment contd. below)

  • upbeat ones, and every proffesional pianist that I know of plays them that way too............

  • Eva, you play this nocturne beautifully, with just the right amount of rubato. I am a pianist and piano teacher, so I do know whereof I speak. I have shared your video with some of my students.

    Dwayne Dillon

  • not bad. needs more expression cuz its a nocturne and the left needs to be softer so the right hand can express the melody more and needs more pedal to make it mellower and the 3rd's double grace note needs to be fast. Sorry if you think i'm dissing you but i'm just giving u a few tips to make it better.

  • my piano teacher told me to play the left hand in this piece only *slightly* softer than the right hand because it has a lot of important melodies in it actually.

  • très jolie interprétation même si celle que je préfère est celle de Tamas Vasary

  • I am playing this nocturne now, and I am 16 years old...

  • wow. amazing.

i've been trying to find different ways to interpret this piece for my competition, and this is amazing:)

  • stfu Tomatoes its all about color not fukin sight reading.

You prob sight read it but no color.

Gw genius you can sight read

  • Comment removed

  • why don't you post a video of you playing this song so we can witness your "genius"??

not going to happen, is it?

  • its the best performance, ive seen on youtube of this nocturne

  • Comment removed

  • Really impressive, nice play.

  • Meravigliosa!

  • Scusate l'errore!

  • Is there supposed to be a break at 1:48? It sounds good but I dunno, I've never played it like that

5 stars though, beautiful! nailed those chromatic runs...

  • nah thats definitely a mistake!

  • beautiful nocturno, but rough interpretation

  • very nicely done ^_^ the dinamics were a little bit off, but hey, im no master

  • I used to play this when I was a teen but, haven't in years I am curious though because I didn't realize it was "#1" is there an Op 72 #2?

  • The Opus number on Nocturne in E minor is misleading. This was actually written in 1827, before his other Nocturnes, and was published posthumously in 1855, against Chopin's wishes. It was assigned Opus 72 No. 1. Opus 72, No. 2 was assigned to the Funeral March in C Major, also published posthumously.

  • Nice form. I would suggest to pay more attention to dynamics. You did great, but I think it would have been masterful if you would have started very lightly at the beginning as indicated and really brought out page three with the runs. Also, try not to fluctuate the tempo as much. It should be flowing not rocking back and forth with ritards and accelerandos. nice playing though. and beautiful piano

  • test

  • dès que je l'ai entendu, j'ai adoré ton interprétation chère Eva qui m'a donné envie de l'apprendre. Malheureusement je l'apprends seul, j'aurais apprécié tes conseils. merci qd même.

  • Nice performance, but she makes a terrible error at around 1:31. She plays F#AG instead of F#E#F#.

  • you must be a famous pianist to write this, where can i hear you (sorry for my english)

  • At 1':28'' to my clock. Well catch, though!

  • the best i've heard

  • Невероятно красиво и вълнуващо ...

  • one of my favorite chopin noctures..done wonderfully!

  • This is one of my favorite recordings of this peice. It was well done, a tad fast, but its all good. I can also play this peice, and its not easy.

  • who knows where I can get free sheet music for this piece? I played it a few years ago and now can only find two of the four pages of my old music... i'd like to get the rest without having to buy another copy.

  • She play very nice. I played it on grade 6 and I think it is hard to remember the rubato

  • it may be the recording- which isnt great- but there doesn't seem to be much dynamic range or delicacy here. She nearly hits the wrong note at 1:49. Over all, not bad. She seems to be working hard at it.

  • gr.8 RCM?

  • nope it's Gr9 RCM

  • In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful and evolving nocturnes.

  • agreed :)

  • this is really good.

  • this song is so wonderfully intoxicating

  • I think the dynamics and tempo are great, I especially like the way she draws out the turn at 2:15

  • tempo is 68

  • i prefer to play this song slower than just about anyone else on youtube lol, but this version is by far my favorite as far as gracefulness goes. well done! i can only hope to succeed half as well!

  • Graceful indeed :)

Some people keep nagging about tempo, or even say that "Chopin ment it different". Please... music is art! There are no rules for art, only guidelines.

It sounds great, get over it :')

  • I couldn't agree with you more! I was only speculating that the tempo was a refreshing change. Personally, I play the song a bit slower but she has really pulled off this speed excellently, making this one of my favorite versions on youtube, thus far. :)

  • You sing songs, play piano.

  • Gentile Signora, la composizione è stata scritta in tempo 4/4 , per entrambe le Mani!

    Non le pare?

  • im pretty sure chopin meant for this piece to be a little slower,

to savour those moments that just need it

  • no, he didn't... the tempo says 94 for a quarter note, and she plays is exactly like that

  • sorry, I ment 69 instead of 94

  • My score doesn't have a tempo marking, you should play it where comfortable and still musical.

  • nice interpretation...........but i think the ritardando on measure 9 should be a big deal....making it move into measure 10.........sort of like stretching it.....considerablely.....

  • Meticuloos musicalus, howevea, projectus entrere cochleaii irratiune. Elleaa estum middlinguousica contraa satisfacta.

  • she grants much justice to this peice, bravo

  • Wonderful!! Thanks.

  • Thank you for this great video. Excellently played!! 5***** from me.

  • My friend can play this music too :)

  • Magnifique !

  • love this song

  • i reckon it was pretty good ^^

her technique's awesome..the balance between the melody and harmony is really good..

and she really makes those top notes in the right hand chords stand out..

    i enjoyed it a lot :D

  • beautiful!!love it

  • EXCELLENT!

  • T.T beautiful song

  • Oh my! I was stunned when I heard your playing. It was melodius, well-phrased, and the rubato was sensational. Keep up the good work!

  • This is probably my second favorite classical song.

(The first being Mendelssohn's 8th Symphony)

  • Very good rendition, probably the best one on youtube. *applauds*

BUT (just a bit of constructive criticism) I play it a bit slower too. This is one of Chopin's most delicate nocturnes and has the "aspiramente" feel in some places.

To PianoCriticKiller, I'd just like to make a comment that if you notice in the recording it is meant to be played a lot slower. This is a NOCTURNE - a short LYRICAL piece that evokes the qualities of NIGHT.

  • If you are so qualified at the art of piano and feel that you are good enough to be a critic, then why do you have no videos of yourself playing?

  • I'd love to, but if you've noticed in my videos I have no videos.. why? Because I too young to own a video camera and I have no idea how to upload videos (actually even RECORD) on to youtube.

Answer your question? I was simply voicing my opinion. Never said I was an artist of piano, notice the +2 on my comment :)

  • okay. I have to admit that you have a point. I am no less lazy than you for not taking 5 minutes out of my time to learn how to upload videos. I do appreciate the plus 2 on your comment. you express yourself with elequence. But look. I have taken piano for three years. My Piano teacher has just assigned me this particular Nocturne. He close to world class. Its not about the speed, its about the expression that is invested. And I think that this young woman does a fine job

  • oh my god you have problems...äähm okay...i'm playing piano now for 7..or 8 years...and i think...she's really very good playing but i also think that she's a little too fast...

whatever...*sorry for mistakes, but english isn't "my" language ;D*

  • oh äh sorry i forgot the thing i wanted to say xD

that was...that 3 years practice is not very much ;)

  • your point taken. I look forward to seeing your videos :)

  • dude your flow of language makes you sound really professional, lol. I'm betting that a lot of that shows in your music

  • I like how you called her dude, lol.

  • Very enjoyable performance...talented..thank you...If you like this nocturne listen to Lívia Rév Chopin Nocturne for piano No. 19 in E minor.

  • this is amazing

  • Pianists play; critics do only what they do best - criticize.

Just enjoy the lovely music, folks.

  • Yes. Chopin rules.

  • well said

  • yeah, antyo

  • I wasn't criticizing her.. What did I say bad about her? Did I say she sucked?

Your the one criticizing a teenager who just so happens to want to help another fellow pianist by advising her to play the piece slower.

I pity jealous creeps like you, take your insecurities out on somebody else. I was defending her from those who were actually insulting her.

  • In fact, my posting was not a criticism of anyone - just a suggestion that we all (peaceably) enjoy this lovely rendition.

PS - It's "you're," not "your." And it should have been a period, rather than a comma, before the word "take." Thank you.

  • I agree, thats right antyo
