A better tip to deal with dogs is to simply buy bettys as soon as possible and plant them where you intend to camp. I rarely even have to fire a shot to get by them.

You gotta get a machine gun, ray gun or wunderwaffe, camp out in the corner where the Storage area door is (don't open it!), then before the 2nd hell hounds, open up Fishing Hut and Commons and get Juggernog and Speed Cola (unless you are unlucky those are the first two perks). Later on, camp on along the path to the Fishing Hut using the Flogger every round. I got to Level 20.
