Wow, I found my eastern box turtle one in the road and one my dog saved from the heat, I keep them in a tank with a fertalizer nearby the sun a little, because once a while they need heat
I really didn't have much of a choice but to keep mine as a pet. In the summer here it got over 100 degrees, and all the water and creeks had dried up. By watching this I've found out mine is a baby girl. I only kept her because I was afraid she would die out in the hot weather with no water.
i saved my boxturtle i live in the texas region .he was in the street eating a cupcake or somrthing so a car passed by and i ran really quick to get him i named him edward cause he looks alike like robert patisson (Edward Cullen)he has red eyes and his really fast!! i luv him so much but i do let him walk around my yard about everyday or when i have time
my box turtle looks just like those but her shell has no yellow on it...also she was running around outside and she got steped on...there r chips on the side of her shell and two small raised up places on her shell...im not really sure wat is going on or wat i need to do....so can anyone give me some advice...i cant take her to the vet because my family has very little money
long island is down to its last few isolated and not so isolated pokets of very small, almost unviable poulations.only us breeders will keep them going long after thae last parking lot is paved in.may our great grandchildren forgive us!
@MarioKartFan2132 im in Lynchburg Virginia, they used to be common here but their habitats are constantly being destroyed to make housing and other human areas, my eastern box turtle was from the wild, and he wasnt the only one living in that huge field behind my parents house, but about 14 years ago bulldozers moved in, so i took him from his burrow so he wouldnt get killed, sadly he was the only one i knew where he lived, but he's healthy and is pretty friendly with me now, after 14 years
i need a girl one.i found the boy one after it rained.and i found in a book that they do come out wen it rains ,so.. im hopin to find a girl so i can have 2 turtles who can have babies.and 1 day wen it rains im goin to go back to te place where i found the boy turtle and hopefully find a girl.
@katlynn150 its still sad to take a wild animal from its habitat ant force him to live in a terrarium. If he had the choice he'd wanna be free in the wildernesses
@ArtistZamira ok yea wateva n u dont kno.my turtle is very well my friend we love each other n if he could speak up 4 hiself he would stay wit me n wen i do put him outside n walk away he walks fast right behind me follown me.ok wateva.
@katlynn150 im afraid ArtistZamira is right, if your turtle is from the wild itd likely be alot happier there, i have an Eastern Box turtle which i rescued from a field right before the place got bulldozed, even though my turtle is becoming friendly and active around me after 14 years, i know he would much prefer to be in his home in the field, sadly the place was destroyed, and possibly other turtles died from it, he wasnt the only Eastern Box back there, but he's one i knew where he lived

box turtles are wonderful little animals. I hate to see their habitat constantly being destroyed. I've seen quite a number flattened on the roads.

I found a turtle just last Sunday, and we take care of him for now, but soon we will release him back to a better place, other than the city.

Ok... I guess the advice of a Herpetologist...is surpassed by the knowledge of a 13yr old boy..

@katlynn150 you should release it in exactly the same place u found it. Wild box turtle in captivity die due to stress.

@becca3090 Try to buy it from a turtle breeder. Wild ones eventually die due to stress....
