I think it's either/or. Beetlejuice has been dead for over 600 years. But, he has Neitherworld parents that he obviously inherited traits from. So it's likely, it's a sort of reincarnation. Y'know, when you die, you come back as a new life. Maybe before becoming a new life, you become a new afterlike LOL

The "afterlife" is rarely mentioned in the series... plus they seem portray the Neitherworld as a surreal dimension where monsters, ghosts, and ghouls dwell and not just a place where dead people go.

the same thing happened with it's portrayal of the underworld in "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy"

yeah i think the creators of 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' got a lot of inspiration from this show. theres even an episode where billy gets a living annoying thing growing on her back just like in 'pat on the back' and i dont think ive seen a plot like that anywhere else... also just the whole concept of a creepy adult hanging out with children lol.

@brettshears: Oddly, Casper had the same sort of deal, but instead of all the kids being taught to be good little 'boils' and 'ghouls' like in this show, Casper failed his school because unlike his educators, peers, and seemingly all other ghost brethren, Casper is the only true friendly ghost from where he comes from.
