  • ReSpeCt to the Creator of Locking!!!

  • oh would you look at that...locking started by a BLACK MAN...

    sigh...

  • RESPECT MISTER CAMPBELL

  • All of todays hip hop dance choreographers should be sending this guy part of their checks! This man is King!!!

  • In 1969 in Los Angeles, Don Cambel introduced the cambellock.

Don Cambel took the hydraulic robotic movements, wich were all about total control and mixed it with wild, out of control body movements dances of the tap-flash dance days plus exact stop and start movements and spiced it all with comic facial expression and clown-like costumes to develop a whole new dance movement which is still going strong called ''locking''.

  • this guy needs to learn how to do locking right lol

  • @dennisrayso he invented it, you ignorant!! pay some respect

  • @dennisrayso u wanna tell the man who made locking how to lock??? learn your math before you speak man

  • @Chaossidy69Hiroki dumbass this guy is from LA look at his jersey, locking clearly came from the streets of NYC.

  • @dennisrayso Now you go watch this video and tell me that he wasnt the invertor ok.... watch?v=FWZLVdICsJE

  • @Chaossidy69Hiroki the link is broken, i call bullshit

  • @dennisrayso why don't you go to wikipedia and search locking then you ignorant idiot.

  • @dennisrayso btw, for an idiot, here's to educate you. go get the link you were given bellow, check the youtube url you have above, and just superimpose the link given to the area in the url above, starting with "watch"

  • @dennisrayso No dumb shit. popping, locking, ticking, boogaloo and shuffling all came from california. Bboying started in the bronx in new york.

  • @Stompinstein shuffling came from Australia smart one.

  • @HimeBerrii Aaaaaaah you caught me. I meant Struting.

  • @dennisrayso no it didnt dumb ass! what are intellectually reversed?! hoe

  • @dennisrayso you're dumb ignorant.

  • DANCE LEGEND!!!

  • Un mitoo !

    Lockin il mio stile !

  • He really let go, i've seen his old clips of him campbellocking. ;p

  • Man, I used to work with Don's lady, maryanne back a while back and she used to tell me stories about Don's dancing days long before the internet blew up. She was so proud of his accomplishments and I'm glad to see this OG get his proper due and respects from the dance community. This man is an art form ORIGINATOR. Anybody carrying it forward from here just need to show their respects to the creator...for without his work, you wouldn't be doing your thing in some form or another. Respects...

  • thank you mr. cambell for giving me something to do besides waste my life away playing video games! =) now i practice my locking all day =D

  • In his youth his style was sharper, but this is just as dope, he's just mellow and more smooth in this style.

  • don is the man!

just look @ his groove; even when he doesn't lock.

    that's FUNK.

    much respect!

  • "whack no way this is don campellock" WTF dawg are you serious? never EVER fuck with the man. ya'll woudln't even know what locking was if it weren't for him. dayum.

  • omg... he is the only locker i've ever seen which has a style...

  • R.I.P.

  • i love the grass

  • LEGEND

  • Thanks for locking Don!

  • XD !!!!!!!!!!RESPECKT!!!!!!!!!

  • All hail the chief rocka!!!!!!!!

  • Don Campbell is a living legend. Much respect to him because he can still hang. Yes he might not be able to throw his body around like he did 40 years ago, but damn! Let see how well you move in YOUR 60's. Much respect is due.

  • merci d'avoir inventer le locking

  • unlike the rest, im here to give homage. his creativity lives on

  • It's not just funkstyles he should be respected for, it's DANCE in general he should be respected for. It's widely decided on that locking is one of the earliest streetstyles of dance out there. And look where locking is today? It's all over modern dance. You can't watch a hip hop choreography without seeing some sort of scoobot, fingerpoint or whichways. I'm proud to be young (24) and have been locking for about 7 years now. I've locked in Japan and all over the u.s. It's a true lifestyle!

  • i was doing a speech about popular dances right now and i talked about Boogaloo Sam and Don Campbell..

i think they are one of the best dancers that i ever known in my life and they will be no matter what

  • damn he used to be sooo good

  • he stil is good

it just age thats got him

  • Much respect to DC for creating such a dope art form! It's cool that even at his age he can still get down!

  • don campbell is cool he made locking when he was younger

  • Dn doesn't need to be cut slack. He needs to be respected for the originator that he is. Don Campbell is a true originator of a section of funkstyles. Locking would not exist without him. It is the responsibility of the next generation to carry the artform to the next level by first paying homage to those who came before us or we lose the very essence and soul of our craft. Don Campbell deserves our unfettered respect and acknowledgement.

  • Thank's don. Stay up..

  • i never knew who created lockin' so i was reading info about it. thanks so much don :P i'd like 2 learn locking n poppin' some time. respect 2 ya don

  • To all you disrespectful, IGNORANT youngsters: The dance was originally called the CAMPBELL-LOCK in honor of its creater DON CAMPBELL. It was later shortened to LOCKING. If you lock, break dance, or do a any type of street dancing, send this man a letter saying THANK YOU. People, please stop showing your ignorance!

  • @Vid3oJo3

While I appreciate what you're saying about locking opening doors for Bboys, it has to be said that breaking was existing fine before and after Don Campbell's appearance.

On the other hand this shouldn't take anything away from the opportunities that Don opened up for street dancing to be taken seriously. If you want to understand why people give Don so many props look at the power and expressiveness of his locks and that is the difference between him and the pretenders.

  • @u63mc First paragraph, half true. There were few moves/ elements invented back in the old times even as early as 1920-40-60 etc that eventually incorporated into breaking that started in the 70s as a street dance.

    2nd paragraph true.

  • @Vid3oJo3 yes!

  • yo watz the meaning of OG ?

  • Original Generation

  • Young ones today have no respect for their elders. Considering how hard that man was dancing back in the day he is still looking good and I know he got to be 50+. You go Don!!!

  • FlyRobin, Don is actually near 60 now, I'm a new style locker, but I'll respect him forever for bringing the funk into the world.

  • to all the piss-ants that disrespect Don Campbelllock

this man is the OG meaning if your a locker or not

    show some Respect!!

  • who the HELL chose that music?

  • Of course he's older now and also, in this video, he's just goofin' for the video.... he's not going "all-out" for a performance. Damn, some people are so narrow-minded. When you see a professional boxer on the street and he throws a couple of "play punches" he's just jokin around too. You can't say "look at him, he can't punch"....

  • Good point avp0713! Cut Don some slack guys, he's got to be almost 50 (or over) here. I challenge ANYONE to try looking as good as they did almost 35 years ago.

  • Thanks, for acknowledgment. See, the thing is, Don was original. We were all dancing back then, doing the latest steps, when locking came out, it was something different that not everybody wanted to do. It didn't appeal to everyone, not that they couldn't do it, they just chose not to be adverse. These days since we can share videos 'round the world in an instant, they're making a really big deal about locking. I been locking for 37 years!!!

  • this dude straight up originated this dance. this dance was not just a danec, but a meaning for soul brothers. check out his myspace website and look out the video. He's THE BEST!

  • yeah think about they said locking was created in around 1962 ? so pretty much don has been getting down since then so its not to surprising that his body is not able to handle all the crazy ass moves he use to do.

  • Respect the Locking creator... Don Campbellock, he's fat and old but he is the lockin creator.... Respect

  • this isnt don this is the puinguin

  • That great big grin belongs to Don. Penguin has more of an open-mouthed harrah.

  • First off "The Penguin" was Fred Berry (Re Run) who was a member of the Cambellockers. Don Cambell is the one in this clip. He was the creator of locking and the founder of the Cambellockers. As with any group of dancers, many members although having their own technique and style, emulated Don which is what creates so much confusion for young dancers today viewing them. But this is irrefutably Don Cambell.

  • yeah i think he might possibly have medical problems that might keep him from going all out.

  • yes! bow down before the creator.

When he was getting down at the B-Boy Summit x he had a lot of energy, but you can see it in his eyes here to.

  • well its kind of hard for him hes like what in his late 40's or in his 50's so locking is a pretty tough dance for someone that old and what does he care he invented it.

  • Tru... but also, he's just kickin' it for a quick video... he's not actually performing here.... he's not in his "lockin gear" Anyway, i'm 49 and check how I break it down... (check my locking videos here on Youtube)

  • Whack! No way is that the Don Campbellock!

  • whack? that's definitely don

don don't lock like he used to but the man is funkier than you will ever be

  • iF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN ANY FOOTAGE OF DON ROCKIN IT BACK IN THE DAY, YOU WOULD REALISE THAT HE KNEES GOTTA BE SHOT BY NOW. THE MAN IS OLD BUT HE IS STILL ROCKIN IT! YOU DON'T KNOW! NEVER DIS THE ORIGINATOR!
