  • yrahhhh

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU CAME FROM THE ELEVATOR SONG =D !

  • It don't matter how good you are at somethin, there's always gonna be someone bigger, better, faster. This is great stuff!

  • I accept low quality rock and jazz guitar and baselines!

  • หน้า นายหัวควยมาก

  • damn those look like some heavy ass strings lol

  • He´s playin chords Iv never heard ever,,,,,pretty awsome but.

  • los jovenes de ahora deben saber que la guitarra tiene más de lo que se imaginan, claro sabiendo tener paciencia y mucho estudio....

  • Beautiful

  • Great ability as always from a legend

  • JOE Pass TOOK PIANO PARTS AS EXAMPLE TO ARRANGE A SONG IN GUITAR.

  • smoothy

  • aaahhh, the old vhs distortion, i kinda miss it, hd audio makes things a bit boring :/

  • I own a copy of this video; it is definitely an Ibanez that he's playing in the opening. It sez so on the headstock. Joe toured with the Ibanez as he didn't want to take his more expensive guitars (D'Aquisto and Gibson) with him.

Joe could make a cigar box and a rubber band sound fatastic.

  • awsome

  • tremendo¡¡

  • Its been a pleasure everybody... Im gonna go hang myself... I thought I played Guitar

  • @negrobazz chill man he's just playing 1 6 2 5.

  • @keyzcity it's in the key of C btw. C Am Dm G

  • @MattDeGuia How does he get that slightly underwater sound? This guy said he waved the neck to get the vibrato, is that right?

I think he starts making it up as he goes along at the end, maybe he forgot the tune?

  • @keyzcity went straight to your chanel to find more reasons to be amazed by you wisdom, and guess what, no videos of you playing anything, I could explain it but you wont get it, its not WHAT he is playing , but HOW he is playing it

  • @negrobazz What he is playing is not complicated at all....thats the beauty of it

  • !! Señor Magnífico !! So superlative, splittingly good. Fine exemplar. My tremendous luxury to have had three lessons with him ~45 years ago. Personage excellent, and the transcendence of musicianship. Gratitude for video.

  • Que grande Alberto Olmedo!!! se toca todo!

  • Great guitar tone one day when im older i will play jazz haha

  • no claps!!!??? awwww come on this is good stuff!!! ^0 ^

  • This is the complete essence of GENIUS!

  • O so sweet.

  • wow

  • i desire a transcription. preferably sheet music but tab is ok x

  • This reminds me of the Godfather.

  • That was amazing

  • Hell YES!!!

  • Sex music :D

  • Gibsons are good guitars but there are more afordable guitars you can get that won't be extra pricy because of the name. Just test some guitars at your local music shop within ur price range and see which fits your style of playing.

  • This video makes me melt

  • GOTTA love Joe....

  • guys do u think gibson's hollow bodies are far superior than epiphone, ibanez, etc? because of the price and popularity. maybe its just because gibson guitars are popular and known for quality and history, they charge a high price. just wondering

  • @setalaka I personally have had a stigma against Gibson but honestly just pick a price range for a hollow body and a sound you love that's fun to play. Screw brand loyalty.

  • there is no such thing as a rich millionare lol! heres something to think about how come we as muscians some whom have study some who didn't study and know there kraft well have to work for artisits that know nothing? and they go home to the bentelys, lambo, bmws and the muscians go home to there toyota, hondas, lol

  • maestro !!!

  • Comment removed

  • what chord does he end on?

  • Comment removed

  • @NikDanger98t's a Cmin(maj7,#11) - C on 5th string, B on 3rd, Eb on 2nd, F# on 1st. Pretty fucked up chord, but that's why we love Joe Pass...

  • @bestestrecords Yeah that's a really interesting way to end..

is there a tab for this??:D

  • Wish he was my grandpa.

  • 1:48 to 2:00.... best part of this already perfect song

  • great master !

  • Everybody keeps telling me it's an Ibanez, and one person even got personal, telling me that I must not see very well, but no one has come up with real evidence, as in, a photo or clip of Joe Pass playing an Ibanez guitar.

Besides which, The guitar he is playing LOOKS like an Epiphone. I don't know of an Ibanez model that has exactly this look, but Epiphone does/did produce a JP model just like this one.

I'm done with this silly argument. Goodbye.

    D

  • @tdeecy It says Epiphone on the headstock. But does it really matter?

  • @tdeecy It says ibanez On the guitar.. Watch the video..

  • @tdeecy ibanez used to knock off gibson and epiphone (and other) guitars (see the lawsuit) before they became recognized for actually being good quality and made their own models. but to me that looks like an Ibanez JP-20 which is a guitar made by ibanez during the decade joe pass endorsed ibanez. ITS AN IBANEZ look up ibanez JP-20 it has EXACTLY that look, you must be blind.

  • Is there a tab for this??

Thumbs up if you have the same question:D

  • @tdeecy Umm why would Epiphone make a guitar that says Ibanez?

  • @Extracelestial

    Show me please.

    TD

  • @Extracelestial Because SHUT UP.

I can't believe you destroyed his whole rant with one sentence. lol

  • @Extracelestial pretty sure its a ibanez artcore.

  • @AmeliaPondLikeU

Artcores weren't around when this video was made.

  • @tdeecy Not only is the guitar in this video an Ibanez JP20, but Joe had nothing to do with the Epiphone Joe Pass guitar. That guitar model wasn't even based on one of Joe's guitars- it was based on a guitar that belonged to Bruce Forman. At the end of Joe's life he was playing a custom Gibson that was close to a thinline ES-175. He did perform with the Ibanez JP-20 but by rumor didn't really like it. The JP-20 was supposed to be based on Joe's D'Aquisto.

  • @tdeecy I assure you sir that is an Ibanez. It sounds like shit because it was recorded on VHS.

  • @tdeecy obviously you can not see very well. the guitar is in Ibanez. Also Epiphone was hand building fine guitars long before DAquisto. And it's really not about the guitar its about the hands.

  • @tdeecy lmao the difference in sound between a Gibson and Epiphone are so close its no where near a $1500 price difference. Also, i'd say he knows a bit more about music and sound then you. So who are you to jugde his choice?

  • @tdeecy Epiphone is owned by Gibson, and usually just a more budget version of gibson guitars. All in all the instrument is just a bonus, its the musician that counts. I mean Django Reinhardt originally played on a poorly crafted Banjo Guitar, and he's known to be one of the best guitarists known to live.

Old blues cats in the south used to bang on cigar boxes to make beats, and pots and pans. I mean if you got the soul and you can throw down a good tune, thats all that matters.

  • @tdeecy epiphones are just good for the price. I have one and now I have money but don't even think of buying a gibson. it sounds just the same.

  • @tdeecy lol wtf this sounds very good to me. very good

  • @tdeecy That is an Ibanez he's playing, and if you say Epiphones are pieces of crap you obviously have no clue on guitars, you ingorant prick.

  • @tdeecy Your an idiot.

  • @tdeecy I think you need to adjust that tin foil hat you've been wearing (or at least take it off every once in awhile).

  • @tdeecy I think the bad sound is due to recording and not the guitar. It sounds like tape warble If you listen to the qualities of the guitar, I hear rich, round tone, no string buzz, nice tonal balance between treble and bass strings. And it is an Ibanez dude. I also don't think Joe cared about what guitar he was remembered with. He had so much more depth than that. He could make a real junk guitar sound like a million bucks, but everyone knows that. Cheers!

  • @tdeecy mate, epiphone make some of the best guitars in the world! John Lennon used them, Noel Gallagher still uses them, Zakk Wylde uses them, and the Epiphone Les Paul studio is a better quality guitar than the one that Gibson makes! The Epiphone LP studio is made with better hardware, better quality wood, and it costs less!! Epiphone make beautiful sounding, good quality lisenced Gibson copies that are AFFORDABLE, if Joe Pass HAD been using an Epi it wud have made me more proud of mine.

  • Remember me the Bossa Nova... a cool and genial song

  • This is awesome! my brother and I just recorded a brazilian guitar track that's about as cool as this :P, its on my channel check it out and let me know what you think :) haha

  • Helen Keler disliked 28 times...

  • I love me some walking bass line. This guy is a genius!

  • Haha, I love how this is just an intro.

  • You found the writer of the music for Mr. Roger's Neighborhood...

  • head to jazzyelp dot com to download the full video (as well as booklet), of which this is the intro. Joe won't mind.

  • This kind of shit explains why so many people do heroin. How is he so good? And I'm pretty sure this is from when he was on the sauce.

  • @Hoffletrof456 lol, yes! opiates and cannibus.

  • @Hoffletrof456 you don't play guitar, do you? And if you do, you a beginner in a thrash band or some goofy thing?

  • @daw162 Yea I play in a slayer cover band. WTF? The reason I took the time to view and comment this video is I'm an aspiring musician, guitar lover and I love watching Joe play. And it's a valid point, many musicians undoubtedly began using heroin and other hard drugs because people like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Joe Pass, etc, used it and were able to still create beautiful music. Even though it attributed to all of their deaths. But my original comment is immature

  • WOW!

  • JP is the king.

  • HOT LICKZ! LOL

  • ppmguire......You are just right!

    This iz brilliance! (:

  • hes godlike

  • great technique

  • Comment removed

  • No words... so good...

  • Whoever dislikes this must be musically retarded.

  • @ppmguire AMEN!

  • @ppmguire You must be retarded; because not everyone shares the same taste in music.

  • @TheRenamonLove Then I suppose you where hurr durring when you decided to click on a Jazz guitar video? Or anyone who disliked it for that matter?

  • @ppmguire You are a very open minded person. And i am a hypocrite.

  • 1,6,2,5)

  • Any tabs for this??

  • One of the true masters!

  • I say YES YES YES!!

  • i want to play jazz, but i cant :( and most instructional videos dont help for shit, learning a lick isnt the same as feeling this kind of music coming out of my fingers and guitar, help

  • @icanpeeyee you should try rich severson..he's on youtube and offers some amazing stuff.

  • @icanpeeyee transcribe jazz solos.

  • @icanpeeyee jazz is something that really needs to be understood, not just felt. a bit of both.

I highly recommend the Jody Fisher books. volume 1 will get you to an intermediate jazz level.

and maybe if you can afford it, have an occasional lesson to make sure you're understanding everything properly.

also, learn to recognize intervals, chord qualities, bass lines, and chord progressions.

I used a program called earmaster, and started with basic intervals.

try it out. there's a free trial.

  • Just saw Andre Wilson last night with Bobby Hutcherson in Oakland. Wilson was playing what looked like a custom job...you know...a Luthier...not a company guitar...and although he used a pick, he sounded like he was playing with his fingers.

    Sublime.

  • @SeanIsaacBillings now I am not yazz expert, but here is something to think about. He is using alot of major and minor dominant 7ths, but a big part of that sound is the fact that he isn't using a pick. Instead of strumming a B major dominant ( Eadgbe, x24342 ), try picking three notes, ( Eadgbe, x24x2x). When moving from chord to chord, pluck the E and A strings (the bass note of the chord) with your thumb only and play the G, D, B and e strings with your index, middle and ring. Walk the bass

  • this gets me high

  • being a metal head, this is odly facinating. this guy is pretty groovy. wish I could play like that. anyone got any good jazz instructional vids or perticular songs to listen to to kinda get the feel of jazz?

  • @snazygitrst check out the book "how to play bebop vol. 1" and check out ted greene's website under i think it's tutorials. listen to "blues for alice" by charlie parker or some louie armstrong. u can pm me if u want more suggestions

  • @snazygitrst I´m in the same boat. I´m a Pop/Rock/Blues Gitarist and just get things going in Jazz. For Examples of older Jazz Guitar just check youtube for Guitarists like Django Reinhardt, Eddie Lang, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall... (There are many more).

As for Jazz Guitar I found this guy on youtube who gives very well explained beginners lessons on Jazz Guitar:

    JustinSandercoe

    Happy Jazzin!

  • @snazygitrst

What really helped me...was buying a jazz record that had a lot of standards on it...Stella By Starlight, Angel Eyes, etc. Cannonball Adderley had a CD called Cannonball Adderley Ballads. Just put it on, and start playing over a tune you like...and hit the loop on Itunes. You'd be surprised how much you can play jazz without having to bar chords. Those minor and seventh notes, etc., rally follow the shape of your hand when draped over the strings.

  • this is interesting!

  • The first time I heard Joe Pass play, I looked at my guitar and thought, "Aw, what's the use...?" Man, he plays the guitar like it's a piano!

  • If only jazz musicians could be millionaires, so there might be only good music and nothing else... dreams,dreams...

  • @PanterAmetal100

interesting comment considering your youtube name...

  • @RythymNblues You see, I'm open-minded musician, soon i'll upload Rodgers' "Blue Moon" cover)

  • @RythymNblues mate, look at my name, pantera are a great band and dimebag is one of my favourite guitarists, i also LOVE joe and most over jazz and blues musicians, im 13... now stop being a close minded twat :D

  • @jazzbluesshred

Your clearly have the maturity of a 13 year old. My comment was not an insult, I just thought he had made an amusing ironic comment considering his handle. Don't be so quick to judge others dude.

  • @RythymNblues fair duce, my bad

  • @jazzbluesshred fuck off you bitch

  • @algor123 lol a you

  • @PanterAmetal100 the saddest part is, there was a time when that was the case.

  • @PanterAmetal100 every body dosnt NEED to like jazz music...and the ones who search jazz music can find it easily.

  • @PanterAmetal100 There is nothing but good music in our fine world. What are you talking about?

  • Woahhhhh this guy is AWESOME!!!!

  • He proved that we don't need a bass guitar on this world....

  • @maaarekjs1000 oh you dont like the bass...

  • @USBYDProductions .....you could put the bass volume while playing with a band to 10 and then 0 and you wouldnt even notice

  • @CPBlazier not really

  • @CPBlazier yeah a shitty band with no funk or groove or feeling. the bass better be your backbone or you in trouble.

  • @CPBlazier Said by someone who apparently hasn't played in any great ensemble haha.

Joe Pass obviously fared just fine on his own, but you can't replace a great bassist.

  • @CPBlazier Maybe in a shitty garage band. Not in jazz.

  • @CPBlazier There is no band where you can't hear the bass. only those overproduced shit bands

  • @CPBlazier You've clearly never listened to any big band. lol. that's a good one though.^

  • @maaarekjs1000 Don't say something like that.

  • sounds like a Gretch even through it's an Ibanez

  • @thomaswni Ibanez?? I thought he plays a gibson.

  • His chord work is just amazing! ;D

  • no, its an ibanez joe pass model similar to the artcore series

  • Comment removed

  • is he using a gibson es 335?

  • does anyone have a transcription of this piece?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, how do Jazzers manage to get such a beautiful tone? Is it to do with the flat wound strings? I've been trying to work it out for ages.

  • @circle11010 I am aware that Joe's solo is in C. I've transcribed most of this, so I hope that I'd be able to identify the key center, lol. I was respomding to emmetwhitey's comment posted 8-13-10

  • @dann3th3manni3 -- ahhh sorry, I didn't pick that up when I read your comment. I looked back at emmetwhitey's comment and indeed your advice is spot on...

  • He was badass tho, don't take it wrong sheeple.

  • @frwyguy Ok. Not a problem, Neocon.

  • Joe Pass was the biggest lush in the Country!

  • Genial!

  • charlie brown

  • teacher

  • Jazz guitarists play millions of chords to 3 people,

Rock guitarists play 3 chords to millions of people, I know which I'd soon rather be!

  • @newman015 Im quoting you on this.

  • @newman015 But its not supposed to be a good thing anyway.. You should aim to be the jazz guitarist that plays millions of chords to billions of people.

  • @ianidinuse I don't care if it's more skillful, playing the guitar is all about what sounds ebst and having soul, Yes Joe has knowledge but it's not what i'd call impressive.

  • @newman015 dude? rock is as good as jazz...

its just a diffrent style..i would say like "Pop artists are the lazy ones.." there manager chooses a song they just sing it and they become so popular and rich like justin bieber, lady gaga,madonna..while they've done like 1/2000 work of what rock,jazz,blues,metal,indie/rock artists do...and they beocome like 10 times richer and popular..

i think thats not really fair..

  • Uncut squid .... If Joe pass is not good jazz who is ? Who do u think plays great jazz ?

Bro u should give respect to anyone who even tries to play jazz !!

You, me , and all other jazz cats need to stay

Family even if were not good show that love

You know I can tell ur a jazz cat just

    Respect the FAM.

  • who is playing bass? HOLY SHIT ITS HIM TOO

  • 21-25 = jizz in my pants

  • ESTE SEÑOR ES Y SERA UN MAESTRO ! GRACIAS POR TU MUSICA

  • is there music for this somewhere? or at least the name of this piece?

  • inimitable

  • evvveryone wants to talk shit on Jimi.. WHY!?! this is Joe Pass!!! he's earned the respect not to need to bring a random icon into the picture... if Mr Pass did heroin and played guitar, Im sure he'd be more appreciated.. but oh well, it'll take genuine musical appreciation. Leave hendrix alone though. people will always do what they want, but sometimes it may not be the way you'd like to puppetteer them. just get over it. JOE PASS IS LIKE SOOO COOOL!!!

  • How does any one Compare Jimi Hendrix to Joe Pass? Different genre different skill level.

  • Awesome , that makes me happy. A class act

  • 0:26- 0:41

Wow that gave me goosebumps :)

  • that was genius, then at the end his suit sounded crispy.

  • joe pass eats ass

  • @uncutsquid If joe is not good or great then who is ?

who do you say played great Jazz ?

  • 6-2-5-1... 3-6-2-5-1

    (L)(L)(L)

    pass

    jaja

  • When I first started to get into jazz voicings and scales and stuff like that, my music teacher at the time kept telling me day after day to listen to Joe Pass.. told me that if I wanted to learn how to play real jazz, this was the man to watch.. 3 years later, and I still couldn't agree more

  • amazing

  • everyone knows and loves jimi, but who gives a fuck about joe asshole and his shitty, boring, uninventive jazz. jazz is KO when it doesn't sound like a wet turd raked against guitar strings
