you cant winem all, but persistence is the key. I will do the same things,like this summer i was drivin down the road and caught a glimps of a geen piece of paper so i pull over and you guessed it a 20 dollar bill. I have pulled off the road many times to check things out that turned out to be nothing but trash but you do get lucky sometimes.You said it best treasures where you find it.

I remember when we traveled from Calif. To Fl. in early 1960. That was during the Cuban missile crisis. There was a old dump site within Key West that we bottle hunted and found a lot of whole stopper bottles and some times a porcelain doll head. About 7 years ago I happen to find at the same place one more stopper bottle. It was sticking out of the ground just like the bear bottle you found.
