i have a gorgeous westie called Molly who will be 6 in April, she is such a lovely dog and a good singer, but not as good as Clyde!! Go Clyde!!
p.s for all the "know-it-alls" if a westie is having pain in it's ears it will either rub them on the floor or if it is a loud noise they will simply leave!!
I have a westie, his name is Casper. I love him to death. I have no idea what I would do witout him. He is 7. But is still very active! What you were saying about the paws-- casper has had SO many skin problems. He chewed the fur right off of his paws because he itched them so much. He is on a lot of meds for his skin and stomach problems. He's worth the cost of everying though. So worth it :)
My westie has the same staining on her feet. The vet said it's because westies tend to have allergies and when their feet itch, they chew on them and the saliva stains the white hair.
@RobertGary1 haha, my westie adores taking bathes! i ask her if she wants to go take a shower and she gets super hyper and starts following me to the bathroom and grabs her towel and takes it in with her! :D

She does have dry skin though and I'm wondering what a good remedy would be for it? She's never had a problem with it before but lately its driving her scratch crazy. Any tips would be awesome!
@ArchaicTears Is your westie having itchy skin and like eczema? My westie Chaplin had that too, and no vets saw anything wrong, but years later we went to an atopy vet and now he gets the treatment he should have had all the time. Maybe search for dog atopy and see if the symptoms are the same? It's very common for westies to have atopy, so if they are the same, it's worth it to visit a vet to check it. My westie became much happier and lively ever since he got the treatment.
this westie is so cute it reminds me of mine her name was Kaydee she died on July 8, 2009 of cancer I just cant believe shes gone. this westie is so cute and a great howler if i do say so myself lol
My little Spike was a westie and he died a week ago today. He was my childhood dog and he had bone cancer and i spent 4 days having to carry him out of his own urine and massage his back all night so he would stop welping. Im not complaining at all; I would do it 1 million times over if i had to. Its just so sad thinking about him. He loved EVERYONE hed ever met. He could no longer move on his own and the doc said they couldnt do anything for him. I miss my little baby :(
I don't even want to try and imagine the pain that u must be going through, I love animals especially dogs but that's why I don't want to own one. Cause they become a family member, you end up loving them as if they were you own child so to then lose them, it has to be horrible. I'm sorry for your loss.

@kenanhoss I am crying reading this; my sister and I lost our Westie of 14 years this past February to a collapsing trachea. There is not a day I do not think of that sweet wonderful dog. I am so sorry for your loss; unfortunately I do know the feeling. I wonder if we ever forget or does the pain of loss ever lighten. I had a terrible weekend recenty; just fits of crying and loss. You will see Spike someday as I know we will see our beautiful Harmony. Dogs take a piece of your heart with them.
@kenanhoss omg i am so sorry to hear that i lost my westie also and its the hardest thing and my westie was only about 9 months old. he died of a blood clot in his sleep after a surgery. the saddest part for me was i never got to see him after he died so i could at least hold him one last time. it will always hurt me that he died cause he was my faveourite dog. Rest In Peace Sammy. :,(

He and the rest of my dogs would all sing together; I don't think it hurts their ears either: they think they are in a pack activity I think.

my westie (which is walking on my computer) is so poofy today we gave her a bath lolz she dosent want me to stop rubbing her and if i do she gets really frustrrated and might pee on the floor. Westies have pretty sensitive stomaches they sure do puke alot....LOLZ

This is cruel. Well, not cruel but not nice because dogs have very snsitive ears, so when they're howling, we usually think they're singing, but they're not; they're howling in pain becvause their ear sound pitch is higher than ours so thye detect better than us.
the other dog seems fine so i dont think its hurting his ears at all. if it did i think he'd probably leave the room. dogs arent as stupid as some may think...

tazer1281, how old is the neighter's one with cancer? My Westie, "Mandy" (a girl) had breast cancer when she was 17 yrs old, but old age got to her first. Her Vet put her on fish oil, which has cancer-fighting property, to keep her cancer at bay. I wish you and your Westie the best with many, many quality years together.
tazer1281, your girl is in her prime and has a long way to go! Make sure that she takes you for a walk daily for at least half an hour or more. And lots of love never hurts?
tazer1281, looks like my Westie too when she got old. I lost her last March at 18 yrs old. I almost died with her. When she died, I was "born-again." My Westie always took me for a walk, instead of the other way around, and actually pulled me to the cross of Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord!
Our curly haired westy, which you can see on my videos is the exact same, he sung his little heart out and looked very similar. He was also a KC registered pedigree, with curly hair, so yes this is a westy.
My Westie does the same thing. I guess it's some kind of communication they do; it's different from howling or barking, too. There's certain things I can say that makes Duffy (my dog) make long sounds like this dog. It's really funny, and it's pretty obvious that he likes to do it.
I have two dogs and they both howl like this. My older dog, 'Riley' is a mini schnauzer and he looks a lot like this little westie. We like to refer to his howl as a 'roo' because that's what it sounds like.
My other dog is a Westie. Westies fucking rock! They like to dig and run away.
no offense, but this doesn't look like a westie. it has a too long snout, my dogs snout isnt that long. im just pointing it out, and plus, the ears are dropped dead, so it cant be a ull westie. it might eb a westie cross, but ill find out the proper breeds when i finish animal care at college
yes, clyde is a westie. both his parents are westies, and we had his brother as well who happened to have both ears up (and looked more westie-like). his hair gets curly after swimming/bath (that's why many are saying bichon/maltese mix). and yes, he is not in pain, and he could have just walked away to a different part of the house if he didn't want to listen. thanks for all the wonderful comments! :)
Dog's don't just howl when they're in pain, guys. They howl in response to noises like this. And I'm guessing his owners know him well enough to tell when he's not acting in a healthy way. So give them a break.
the dog looks like a westy/beshan frese mix...the ears look like those of my old beshan and the face looks liek that of a westie. West highland terriers ears never go down...(my two westies ears stay up all the time) they just aren't capable of falling down like that...

They hate baths. Plus their skin easily gets too dry so you don't want to bathe them too often.

ahh no mohanicus that is not why they howl. It's because they want to mimmic the sound that they hear. It doesn't hurt them at all!

my dog howls at any cop car on the tv like a movie or a chase or something like that!!!!!!
i think this dog doesnt like the piano the tone probibly hurts his ears and he howling"NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"!!!!!!!!

My Westie does the same thing. I guess it's some kind of communication they do; it's different from howling or barking, too. There's certain things I can say that makes Duffy (my dog) make long sounds like this dog. It's really funny, and it's pretty obvious that he likes to do it.

I have 2 Males and 2 Female Westies.
They are all laying flat out recoveringfrom their long walk thru' the Woods yesterday.
English Weather!!...2 Sundays ago(In Spring!) it snowed heavily.We went out and they loved it!.They were very frisky:)
When the rain stops we are going out to The Bluebell Woods on the edge of London which are now in full bloom.Can't WAit!

I have two dogs and they both howl like this. My older dog, 'Riley' is a mini schnauzer and he looks a lot like this little westie. We like to refer to his howl as a 'roo' because that's what it sounds like.
My other dog is a Westie. Westies fucking rock! They like to dig and run away.

no offense, but this doesn't look like a westie. it has a too long snout, my dogs snout isnt that long. im just pointing it out, and plus, the ears are dropped dead, so it cant be a ull westie. it might eb a westie cross, but ill find out the proper breeds when i finish animal care at college

yes, clyde is a westie. both his parents are westies, and we had his brother as well who happened to have both ears up (and looked more westie-like). his hair gets curly after swimming/bath (that's why many are saying bichon/maltese mix). and yes, he is not in pain, and he could have just walked away to a different part of the house if he didn't want to listen. thanks for all the wonderful comments! :)

Dog's don't just howl when they're in pain, guys. They howl in response to noises like this. And I'm guessing his owners know him well enough to tell when he's not acting in a healthy way. So give them a break.

the dog looks like a westy/beshan frese mix...the ears look like those of my old beshan and the face looks liek that of a westie. West highland terriers ears never go down...(my two westies ears stay up all the time) they just aren't capable of falling down like that...

No. If the dog was in pain from the song, he would have left the room. Dogs will howl if they hear a tone that matches the sound of a howl.

I have 4 Westies in London,England.Sammy(10) is fast asleep in his basket,Max(7) is asleep on his armchair,the 2 Sisters(Alice/Phoebe,5)are both asleep on the twin-settee next to me on the Computer.We had a long walk in the mud and they are tired now!..:)

My dog does that look on my channel. She does it when excited, on cue (wagging your fingers like conductor), and when people sing. so cute. Oh she's a westie also! :D
