  • nice bass which brand?

  • my goal as a drummer is to destroy all bass players who cannot keep the form on a 12 bar blues

  • hi Jim Morrsion

  • I've been I

  • Tip to you - Use both your middle and index to strike the strings and use the pinky on the left hand.

  • what bass are ya using?

  • Great and Thank U!

  • Comment removed

  • Informative thanks

  • first learn to play bass

  • This guy knows his theory! Very good. Keep up the nice work!

  • why on earth are you using just one finger ? lol

  • Loved it :)

  • Thanks man i learned a lot from this...hahaha

  • your a cool dude but you need to fix your technique. right off the bat a 0:38 your playing with one finger. never do that. i know you were just showing us something but regardless, you need to always have good technique no matter what.

  • @Theshamham james jamerson used to use the hook technique which employed one finger almost exclusively, needless to say JJ was effective and well... god-like. I think that technique should be subject to a player's comfort above all, and the player should always look towards being effective and having his own style which is obviously served by his/her freedom to choose the technique used.

  • @milleribsenalbeefan your completely right dude! Since after all, it's way better to hop around with 1 leg than it is to walk on 2...

just think about what your saying.

    Fuck James Jamerson...

  • Really simple and efficient lesson. All a blues bassplayer needs, at least at the beginning for quite a while :-)) Congrats, my friend, from Switzerland!

  • nice fernandes

  • great vid bro! tnx

  • Why would I judge this guy? I respect his view of how bass should be, and he isn't wrong for saying "to keep the foundation. However, Steve Harris from Iron Maiden or Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers; they would both disagree. I prefer to play a LEAD bass tone over a backing tone and lower. However, I really liked your video, I just has a different view of the bass.

  • very very bad .

  • Roger waters!

  • Hey thanks! :)

    What a great help.

I just picked it up and BAM I was playin!

Now I can jam with my kid on his drums :)

  • very bad man....

  • Can you please super impose bass tablature for the bass lines you are playing on the bottom of your video footage? I thought your video was helpful. Thanks.

  • Jagoff's got an atrocious case of deejay voice. Douchejay.

  • Hey... weren't you in Zombie Land?

  • @betweenthelicks

am a beginner bass player ... learnt a lot! thnx man!!

  • You have a lot of talent and a lot of potential however you lost me at the start because your fingers are not visible at the beginning.

  • easy! SMILE

  • between the licks and me

    colors or gtfo

  • The last bass riff you played sounds a lot like 'Got To Hurry.' :) Its such a great groove. Thanks for this video! :D

  • GOOD WORK MAN, VERY WELL EXPLAINED DURING PLAYING. JUST KEEP IT COMING MAN.

  • Cool video! Don't worry about the comments about your right hand technique.

James Jamerson, the great Motown bass player, played with only 1 finger (EVER), and he's widely considered one of the best pop musicians the world has ever known.

Geedy Lee also plays with only 1 finger most of time. John Paul Jones too.

Personally, sometimes I use this technique if I felt the need to use it. I like the sound consistency it brings. I just don't use it all the time.

  • okaii, i am a beginer and i dont really know the names of the chords, how can i learn them? just look them up on google????

  • good lesson dude....

  • assassino! con un dito solooooooo?????????aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    :)

  • VERY helpful to us beginners! MUCH more help than almost any other video! Thanks!

  • Nice job . . . nice and easy. This was a basic lesson. Thats what instructors are expected to do. Don't assume anything. Just stick to the lesson!

  • Blues in A? No way!!! Maybe F or Bb.

  • @Lowellrefugee Blues is easiest in A, and this is for beginners.

  • Good lesson, but your right hand technique sucks. Figure that out and you could be a really good bass player.

  • its really hard to hear the bass when you keep talking over it. otherwise very good lesson

  • The best blues lesson on youtube period, easy to learn and well explained, thanks i finally learned it in 10 minutes....excellent.

  • The best blues lesson on youtube period, easy to learned and well explained, thanks i finally learned it in 10 minutes....excellent.

  • nice video... i think you look like Roger Waters from Pink Floyd when they began in 1966

  • Great video!!! Very helpful!!! Thank you:)

  • wtf kinda bass is that?!?!? I mena what brand

  • Thanks so much for these! Very helpful.

  • That' the same bass line to Bad to the bone.

  • well done, good teaching style, excellent for any beginners.

  • piano player here, thanks for the help!

  • this sound reminds me a lot of jack bruce, john paul jones, and geezer butler.

  • this was a great video. im wanting to start a blues band, and i play bass. this helped me a lot. im gonna bookmark it. lol :D

  • Good stuff man

  • how can people not like it when someone's having a go on a bass? and since when has someone been perfect in timing or whatever.. what a world of wowsers we live in. yes, you are allowed your opinion thats right. but why be negative. all musos would realise the faults. so what. the basic stuff this guy is showing and taking the time to teach is good. i really wonder if people dont just get jealous of others doing stuff even when its not perfect

  • hey man! great lesson. your teaching style is real straight forward and easy to follow. Keep up the good work!! if you have any more lessons throw em my way!

  • your doing a great job helping the beginner bass player such as myself, keep up the good work.

  • Great video..this really helps!

  • nice vid mate

  • You did a great job, kept it simple for begginers . As far as some of the other people that left some dumb a*% comments if they can do any better thy ought to post some vids. I seriously doubt they ar Victor Wooten, nor Nathan East themselves.

  • This is really helpfull thanks!

  • que manera de perder el tiempo ¬¬

  • cool vid man

  • so in rock we say ROCK ON, do in blues they say BLUES ON :-p

lol just kidding , good job dude.

  • what I like most about playing blues on the bass is tha once you get the hang of it you can start making endless variations, it;s realy a good base ;) to start from to learn improvization.

remeber rock is only faster blues and metal is only speeded up rock ;)

  • way to go dude there's nothing like a good base when playing bass ;)

  • Thanks for the video!

I've been looking for blues standards and you helped me a lot! :)

  • Ignore the jackasses!

    You are helping others learn!

Sharing music has been handed down since the dawn of time.

You offer the gift of music to thousands of people all around the world.

    That is truly Epic.

    Thank you my good man.

  • hey what key is texas flood in?

  • Good, I liked it.

    watch?v=3ijj2Bk2zIY

  • I learned a lot! great video, thanks!

  • This was really helpful! Thank you

  • @ donclemens....every musician has a different preference and style with how they play their instrument. And of course, every musician knows this. It's obvious based on your comment below, you are not a musician. So maybe just enjoy this lesson and learn something from it instead of displaying your elementary theories.

  • I learned something here with the dropping bass line. Somehow I didn't know that one.

  • lay off him, I learned something from this and I think he's mainly a guitarist

  • don't comment his tenchinque, everybody plays how they like to play.

  • Hey bass player, we still play over drum beats, so we're not that far back.

  • I really hope this is a bad joke....

  • great video man, gives alot of people a good idea of what to do that are starting off, and in very simple terms too, many people will use this i hope! keep them coming

  • 1 finger?!?!??!

i dont see why are u making bass lessons when your tehnique sux.. some beginners will learn it wrong way cuz of u

  • I dont see no walking ...

  • @LegoBricKing he always was

  • good video man, don't mind what the others are saying, this could be a good video for beginners. keep up the good work, the more you teach, the more you learn.

  • This is a 1-4-5 technique right?

  • can u please use two fingers it was very annoying to watch?

  • @iKiiiLzx

Chech out james jamerson, regarded by many as the best bass player of all time...he used one finger,The Hook.. if its good enough for JJ its good enough for this guy

  • @TheRaybass i didn't say it wasn't working i said it was annoying

  • good lesson and all but like you should probably use two fingers and use your pinky when you hit the D on the A string for the 1 - 3rd - 5th part. its just good techinique but yeah my teacher tought me this same thing a while back with the 3rds and 5ths

  • This guy is really good! thanks for this lesson! :)

  • keep them coming

  • I practice the 'bouncing' pattern and it does wear out your hand at first.

  • that one finger playing is really ticking me off

  • yup practice makes perfect !!!!!!

  • between the licks is a kind of misleading name

  • omg bass lesson form guy who is not using pinky while playing, and even more funnyer is fact that he picks with just index finger...

  • Hes just trying to teach you something, jesus. Go flame some picking technique video instead.

  • Use your pinky!!! And alternate fingers when you strum. T_T

  • wut the fuck are you on about every1 has different playing styles bro.

  • @KickinTunes Actually, by not varying plucking fingers (using only one), you're able to achieve a more consistent tone. It's a technique, not a weakness. Every heard of Matt Rubano...he uses that technique too, as do I.

  • @thelewd1

True, but I also find that it takes some of the life out of the bassline, but that might just be me.

  • agreed with ya, after breaking my middle finger I had to use only my index finger for all and got used to it, using up and down plucks, I find it fast, and consistant. But now healed use 3 but no pinky....

  • you have to use the last finger... the sound is better

  • you can finger the V with your fourth finger.

  • @MrMember12

    thats what she said

  • what do you need tabs for?? it doesnt get any easier than that. great video. nice work.

  • Can´t be better. But I should like to get the tabs for all 5..

  • Send More videos. Thanks

  • nice hair. (this isnt sarcasm)

  • I've been playing for two years, and this is probably one of the BEST beginner videos I've ever seen! very great job. :D

  • why you play one fingered?

  • Hey ... give him a beak ... maybe he is earning class credit for this or a merit badge or something ... what did you do today to better yourself? Good stuff kid ... keep it up.

  • @NomadDad57 yes, but we dont go online and make videos trying to teach people when we arent very good. if you are going to do something, and make yourslef look so stupid and boring it is YOUR fault, and YOU take the slack for it. nice, better than me, but i dont claim to know much, and you sound like the worst kind of idiot-the one who thinks they are smart

  • @NomadDad57 Maybe I could donate a fews cans of soup

  • can you send me tabs for the bouncing blues

  • Hey, did you get the tabs? I should like to get them also, therefore, please help me

  • so much is wrong with your tech...please if you teach try to be accurate... alternate your R hand..even on simple stuff.. and the Left hand... teaching is way important.

  • hey, great vid! I'm thinking of buying a bass guitar. What guitar are you using?

    Props for you m8

  • yo props on giving out the simple riffs... but anyone know where to get more advanced stuff? im trying to widen myself out of the blues/jazz scale

  • Great lesson, good for playing bluesy rock style like led zepplin

  • Comment removed

  • @donclemens and FrigiTheFritz - Did you know that James Jamerson only played with his index finger most of the time? He played bass on just about every hit Motown song. Try to look at things, especially music, as more than just technique and standards - if you watched this video with eyes closed, would you have noticed he was playing with one finger?

  • @donclemens so what? tell that to james jamerson :P

  • @donclemens dont be an ass:P

  • @donclemens , Ever heard of James "The Claw "Jamerson ?

  • you don't even say how to play them! your'e shit!

  • if you cant learn this licks/riffs by watching this vid..then your shit. those are very simple

  • Pinky up.

    Learn your Simandl.

  • you are shit. your lesson reads between the lines but there are straight bass lines without any smooth transitions between the lines. you are fraud and don't know how to play the bass. get lost

  • He isn't jonas!!!

  • he´s a jonaas!!!!!!! kick him!

  • classic blues is blues, man. its all the same progressions. great video!

  • You're only playing railroad blues, and more classic blues. What about the blues and penetonic scale?

  • Not too bad of an instructional vid for beginners, shows different styles fairly well, however, a couple of friendly (keyword friendly) suggestions:

    Use a metronome.

Don't be afraid to use more than one finger, even with basic stuff it helps to keep rhythm and tempo.

The "BB King" style song (3:07) is in major, not minor.

  • Everybody once a beginner.

    You're remember your at once?

  • i agree w pulseofnegative!!!

  • Great lesson

  • what notes are you playing on for the drop bass?

  • thanks man this video helped me so much! i m a beginner!

  • really liked that, thanks bro

  • nice video! thanks andy samberg!!!!

  • I'm in a punk band. but love many different types of music, blues included.I found this video to be helpful to me.If anyone knows of anymore of these like this send me message.Thanx

  • I've just picked up the bass and this is very helpful. Thanks Brian. Great job.

  • If you are beyond the beginner stage, maybe it would be good to put intermediate, advanced, or expert in your youtube searches. As a beginner I found it useful.

    You suck at searching information!

  • This is bad, especially for beginners because it's not a good example

  • Well, maybe you could make a better video for me and send me the link? If you are unable, Then I suggest the old rule of, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all...

  • I will make it ASAP, look for a video response to this video

  • :D Great comment.

  • are you the dude from Hall and Oats?

  • aprendi isso sozinho aos 12 anos brincando em um violão tonante 1985...

  • ey man you don't have a good technique to post lessons... use 2 fingers in your right hand and use all the fingers in your left hand!

  • if you use the 2 fingers in your right hand the sound is different for each finger when you play the same note, this is a basic and constant machine-like bass line, it must sound all the same...

or maybe he has a cramp in his middle finger...

  • Yeah, and shuffling has a little variation at the end. too (like on Bad To The Bone)

  • Good job man. keep it up!

  • i agree the timing is irratic.

  • cool im doing alot of stuff wit that now

and why do u only use ur index haha

  • andy samburg?

  • hahaha! lol ur right!

  • TOTALLY AN Andy Samburg Look alike!!!!!!!!

  • I agree with seasaint. It was a lesson and I scooped 2 more simple bass lines very cool.

    Thanks
