Uhh menuda discusión hay por aqui jaja vamos a ver una cosa, Shakira, su nombre es libanés, eso primero, segundo en la mitad de canciones que tiene siempre mete ritmos no árabes no, sino libaneses, tercero, ella habla libanés muy muy bien y baila así la danza del vientre porque su abuela por parte de padre le enseñó que sino no sabría ni mover una cadera.

It does mean "grateful". You know when religious people "say grace"??? They're giving thanks for the good things in their life. Shakira said her parents named her that because they were grateful to Dios. My sister dated an Arabic guy and he told me the word they use for "thank you" or whatever, and it sounds similar, so it's just derived from the original word. The "woman" part is just because of the "ira" at the end making it feminine.
