The unicorn in the film is basically a white horse with a golden horn pasted on.
I honestly feel that they could have made an effort to make the unicorn more medieval looking by giving it a beard under it's muzzle and maybe use CGI to make the hooves cloven and the tail more lionesque. Oh, and also give it an indigo horn like the book stated......
I am no happy at how the portrayed naiads! Like the dryads I wished they used real actors instead of just CGI, and they could have participated in the battle against the White Witch. I also don't like that they were omitted from the first films and show up in the third as replacements for the Sea People! Naiads live in rivers and streams NOT the ocean! It only made it worse when they are depicted as liquid mermaids! Plus they made The River God too huge.
I am rather displeased at the portrayal of dryads in the films. I feel that they could done what they did in PC's battle in the batlle in LWW. I also wish they used real actors mixed with CGI instead of just CGI flower petals forming the shape of a woman. The books state that humans have spawned shildren with them. The films dryads look to delicate and unstable to even hold an item, let a alone bear a child! They look more like floral ghosts!
I like how they made hags withered and decrepit. My only problem with the hags in the films is that they are somewhat bird-like, especially with the beaked mouths.
In the books, both satyrs are mentioned along side fauns. The only description given in the books is that their reddish brown or red as foxes. The illustrations by pauline Baynes made fauns and satyrs indistinguishable with the exception of Mr. Tumnus. I am glad that the films furthered the difference between satyrs and fauns, I am bothered that the satyrs look FAR more goat like than the fauns.......
I'm glad that they stayed mostly true to how Lewis described Narnia's fauns:Goat-legged, horned, pointy-earred, and curly haired. My only problem is that they simply have goat tails instead of long ones.
I very much like the design of the minotaurs. In the book illustrations, their legs are more man-like, and I'm glad that in the films their legs are bovine. I like that they made the minotaur a hairy creature with a bull's head, hind legs, and tail instead of just a bull-headed man. :)
I'm VERY happy at how they portrayed the centaurs! I like how it looks like a standard sized human body with a standard sized horse body, instead of an enlarged human body to accommodate the horse body or vice versa. I like how they are shown as a prolific race with females and even children. In fact the only problem I have with the centaurs in the design is their lack of eyebrows! LOL But that's a minor peeve. ^_^
I like how they made the dwarfs. For me, when I look at them, I see them, not as whimsical garden gnome-like people, but like relatives of the dwarves from Lord of the Rings. I also like that they depicted beardless dwarf women. i do wish that they had the dwarfs be pointy eared so as to help differentiate them from just normal humans with short stature, especially the women.
I was really glad that the LWW film depicted merpeople like the book stated. Although the film mermaids weren't shown singing, I really like the design. I like how they made their tails look like actual fish tails, and I like how the blended the fish half with the human half. :)
I've got to be honest with you all, though I love the narnian stories(LWW was what got me into fantasy and mythology), I do feel that there are certain creatures that weren't designed or portrayed properly. I'm gonna grade the portrayals and desings of the narnian creatures throughout the films thus far.
With the asland on the table it looked real i was going to be like creeped out if they left it on allday because i would be like"GET HIM TO THE VET HES SICK" if he layed there all day
is there a dvd with this on it? if so what is it called?
