Her voice was in a transitional stage here, heading into 'raspish' for Margo Channing. BD wrote that her voice changed around this time from all the yelling she was doing with her husband.

I did notice that her voice was higher than it should have been around that time. Thanks for explaining it! I do remember her saying that he had a bad throat condition when playing Margo and that she had to have oil treatments every day.
