People say, an hour of squash equals 2 hours of tennis. People also say that if you can play squash & your good at it, then you can play tennis and badminton. That hypothosis is COMPLEATLY UNTRUE!!! Im in the advanced squash training thing at my state squash gym thing & i tried out tennis, IT IS THE HARDEST GAME EVER!! But badminton is easy..
@INDIEE17 The drama and the excitement you get from a close game of darts is unbelievable. You should try it - it's a great sport and you would probably be hooked in no time at all.
As a long time tennis player I almost immediately was at recreative play entry level when I played my first squash game. I could win against hard hitters, but of course easily lost to strategic players since I didnt know jack about squash tactics hehe. Squash players will not have such an easy time when they start to play tennis. Takes a while before you are at recreative level. Mastering squash or tennis however is completely different. It requires just as much training for both sports.
I hate it when people that have never played squash or barely played (1-2 years) comment on the subject as if they know what they're talking about, I'm a squash player and i can tell u almost every single comment on this page is rubbish, but hey .. that's youtube for ya

sanpolen, train a year in squash and you'l still be a beginner man:)
tennis and squash are different:S
I love watching tennis. i think squash is more intense though because you dont have as many rests. tennis the games go on for hours. but you take water on like every five minutes and stuff.
Both are great sports:) i just love and play squash:D
@DrCooler1000, it's good to set yourself some goals like that, but never forget that the most important thing is process, not result. If you play hard, have good sensations and pleasure in each and every shot you play, then results will come easier. Not so easy to accomplish though, because focusing on result (rather living in the present) is very tempting. Good luck!
JP is the man of squash! in my second year of squash-now playing for Brunel University 1st team in div 1A of South East conference, only 4th seed but watching the first seeds-most county, some nationals-is awesome! the matchplay there is admirable! great sport...as are tennis and badminton which i used to play extensively but squash is the winner atm!
In terms of the pleasure of playing (and this is subjective) all are super fun. Hitting a good shot is part of the high of racket sports.
Squash is less beautiful to play but highly addictive. Part of the challenge of squash is the opponent but there is also the mental calculation of figuring out where the ball is headed; that is a separate challenge.
Really good tennis players can learn squash relatively easier than other people. Some touch shots, such as drop volleys, can be better by tennis player than the average squash player.
In all of these sports footwork is the essential key to setting up to execute the stroke.
Squash, tennis, table tennis, badminton, racket ball are all similar in many respects, but they emphasize different skills. Squash has fewer strokes because topspin is rarely used except for some trick shots.
Table tennis has enormous spin variations, especially on serve.
on the squash versus tennis debate i cant answer because ive only played one game of squash and have been playing tennis for 2 years. what i will say though is that i think the reason so many people like squash and one of the main advantages it has over tennis, is the ability to basically just get straight into a fun game straight away first time. which is fun and gets people hooked. in tennis your shots would most likely hardly ever go in first time playing. so not as good for beginners.
Squash is actually quite a hard game to learn at first. But it is a wonderful incredible sport at all levels of experience. The person below who said they'd hate to let someone get by them... Its fair play only with strict rules about blocking your opponent. If it you do it the referee may give the point to your opponent depending on the circumstance. And.. once you learn the etiquette and techniques of not hitting your opponent in the head, it all starts to make perfect sense.
I agree about squash being much easier to immediately play than tennis. Tennis is difficult for beginners to be able to keep ball in play. Overall tennis is more complicated in terms of overall shots to be mastered, while squash is more strategic. There are more subtleties in squash than tennis too. In my city, squash has been promoted awfully. Only 9 squash courts played by the wealthy; contrast to over 600 tennis courts. Squash needs to shown to the masses.
squash is one of the best sport. I tried tennis, it was shit in comparaison !! Squash is all about mental and fisic resistance... required an huge technic.. football and boxing are the 2 sports which are equivalent.
dude thats so flawed. tennis and squash are very different games. thats like saying football and boxing are the same thing.. OH WAIT YOU DID. how the hell is jabbing/dodging/hooks the same thing as tossing the pigskin a dozens of yards down the field. yes they both require technique but completely different kinds of it.
Tennis is so boring, during a match of 4 hours they really play 40 min... And I made a comparaison between squash and tennis because they arent so different ( racket sport). The technique used is different you're all right but a tennis player is not as bad as a football player when he plays squash :). I said squash is really more fisic than tennis... That's get on my nerds because tennis is well known and squash NOT !!!
first off, fisic isnt a word so i have no idea what you're talking about. and how does tennis being well known have anything to do what we're talking about. andd by you saying "tennis and squash aren't so different because they use rackets", you also say that squash and badminton, by association, are comparable too? thats like saying soccer and rugby are the same because they both use a ball...
Squash is all about the T, you have to have every shot available for use tow in, the most important thing is no unforced errors, this is so much easier said than done, especially when you have no patience like me.
I can hit a ball harder than anybody on a squash court man! I hit so fockin hard and low, it don't even fockin bounce, it skids everytime! No focker see's or returns those bastards back man!

Yes. I am a squash player too. The truth is, I can play almost any shot those professionals play. OBVIOUSLY not with the same consistency. Squash, is natural.
"to master tennis' technique is harder, basically because you have to care about where your shot lands"
It doesn't matter where your shot lands in Squash? This statement proves you have little to no understanding of the game of Squash. Even a novice player with a few months under his belt would know otherwise.
Well it does matter in Squash too. The statement doesn't prove anything, it only proves what you want it to prove. If you're under a lot of pressure, you will still be able to keep the game going for 1 or 2 points by playing practically whatever shot. It is not as difficult to stay within the boundaries in squash as it is in tennis. I think this can be seen in the difference of Unforced Errors Tennis players and Squash players hit. But still, I like squash better than tennis.
"where you're shot lands" is of the utmost importance in squash since the rallies are so close that the smallest mistake or advantage in shot choice/placement/where your balls lands makes the difference. You have to master tennis technique but in squash you have to master technique and strategy. Squash is the chess of racquet sports.
i play squash and chess and let me tell you although there is strategy in squash anyone who has played chess knows thats an insult to it. Chess is a great deal more comoplicated that experts understand. at the grandmaster level chess becomes a whole new game, much much much more complicated and in depth that the strategy used in squash. I love squash though
I never said that squash is as strategic a game as chess, but that in comparison to other racquet sports, like racquet ball, it is far more strategic. Chess : Draughts as Squash : racquet ball, but this does not imply squash is as strategic or complicated as chess.
tennis may take alot of co-ordination and is a great sport but squash has so much more depth to the game as a thinkers sport, has way more tactic to the game
Ok, i can see i'm in a page of squash players. I know it's very hard for the heart and you have to be on fit, also your legs and brain have to be quick in game, i've played it a lot.
But try this thing. Trainning squash twice per week during a year and same time for tennis. In squash you'll have a very good level and in tennis you´ll be a beginner.
@sanpolen, learning the shots and techniques is undoubtedly easier in squash, but squash is much more of a thinking man's game than tennis. You don't win by performing powerful shots (though it can help) but by outmaneuvering you opponent over the course of a point, and that takes a long time to learn.
it depends, if you play squash after having a good basis in tennis then you will get reasonable/good standard fairly fast, but starting from scratch with raquet sports it will be more challenging. then again i have friends who have gone from playin loads of squash to tennis and really struggle, the movement is generally ok but its the shots they can't handle
I think it is better to not have a tennis background if you want to get really be good in squash. The tennis background will lead to bad habits when trying to execute the proper squash shots. Take for instance table tennis (ping pong), tennis players do OK up to a certain point, then get their asses kicked by true table tennis players. Same with badminton for tennis players. Bottom line, each game is unique.
then say Let please :) then you can get a reply from the guy who stands outside the door 3 things ( Stroke ( you won ) let (new ball) no let ( you lost ) IM NR 2 IN MY COUNTRY NOW HAHA !
Yeah I am trying to gather stuff on Power to make one for him, then David will be in line next and also Shabana, also might make one for Jahangir but that footage is really hard to come by so scraping all over for such clips. I appreciate ur interest and wonderful feedback, once again, thanx for watching...

But still, I like squash better than tennis.
hashkenhabib 2 years ago
"where you're shot lands" is of the utmost importance in squash since the rallies are so close that the smallest mistake or advantage in shot choice/placement/where your balls lands makes the difference. You have to master tennis technique but in squash you have to master technique and strategy. Squash is the chess of racquet sports.
hughmccabe 2 years ago
i play squash and chess and let me tell you although there is strategy in squash anyone who has played chess knows thats an insult to it. Chess is a great deal more comoplicated that experts understand. at the grandmaster level chess becomes a whole new game, much much much more complicated and in depth that the strategy used in squash. I love squash though
doubleT1636 2 years ago
I never said that squash is as strategic a game as chess, but that in comparison to other racquet sports, like racquet ball, it is far more strategic. Chess : Draughts as Squash : racquet ball, but this does not imply squash is as strategic or complicated as chess.

I play a lot of raquet sports and i have to say. Tennis is the most difficult
sanpolen 2 years ago
tennis may take alot of co-ordination and is a great sport but squash has so much more depth to the game as a thinkers sport, has way more tactic to the game
johhnyo 2 years ago
Ok, i can see i'm in a page of squash players. I know it's very hard for the heart and you have to be on fit, also your legs and brain have to be quick in game, i've played it a lot.
But try this thing. Trainning squash twice per week during a year and same time for tennis. In squash you'll have a very good level and in tennis you´ll be a beginner.
It´s just my opinion.
Bless for all the raquet players!
sanpolen 2 years ago
@sanpolen, learning the shots and techniques is undoubtedly easier in squash, but squash is much more of a thinking man's game than tennis. You don't win by performing powerful shots (though it can help) but by outmaneuvering you opponent over the course of a point, and that takes a long time to learn.
backhander2006 2 years ago
it depends, if you play squash after having a good basis in tennis then you will get reasonable/good standard fairly fast, but starting from scratch with raquet sports it will be more challenging. then again i have friends who have gone from playin loads of squash to tennis and really struggle, the movement is generally ok but its the shots they can't handle
ouchymcdoodle 2 years ago
I think it is better to not have a tennis background if you want to get really be good in squash. The tennis background will lead to bad habits when trying to execute the proper squash shots. Take for instance table tennis (ping pong), tennis players do OK up to a certain point, then get their asses kicked by true table tennis players. Same with badminton for tennis players. Bottom line, each game is unique.
