I never liked the tapered barrel, but it's growing on me. I was planning on getting the 22/45, but I like the 4.75 tapered Mark III now. The supposedly smaller magazines are a plus. I also like the slide button on the Mark III vs the 22/45.
I only have .22 weapons a marlin 795 a Taurus pt-22 and an Ithaca M-49. I was looking for another pistol in the same caliber and I think i'm gonna go with getting a ruger mark 3 to act as my side arm and keep using the pt-22 as a back up gun for any emergency situations.
@Bly86 especially if you ar elucky enough to be like me and inherit your great uncle's 1961 Standard (pre mark 1 I believe) with a 4.5 inch barrel and the Original leather "Hunters" holster thats fitted for that pistol. only drawbacks with that holster are that it rubs on the sights and if you ever had to draw it fast itd be in the way, the back side of the holster on the top side of the barrel is a bit long and cumbersome. great little pistol though hope to put some more rounds thru it soon
Good video it can't believe reaper83001's question. Maybe you should have said it is only for small game or birds to feed yourself, for the newbe's at survival. I have a Mark II with the 4 inch bull barrel and it is a very consistently accurate little weapon, but it is on the heavy side for the power output of a 22. It weighs almost as much as my Marlin Papoose, which is by far a better choice. Thanks for the video.
@reaper83001 Short answer (DON'T EVEN TRY). You would have to be too close with perfect shot placement, this doesn't happen in the real world. A wounded deer will charge you, I know this from personal experience. Look up deer attacks here on youtube. If you piss one off and it sees you it could attack and kill you by kicking with it's front hoofs. A 9mm carbine is considered too small for deer, and it has a hell of a lot more power than a 22 out of a 4 inch barrel.
Black tail rabbits are open season here! I kill those guys all day with my single action .22LR at 10- 25 yards. All day baby all day!!!! Oh and great video, i love your videos.
I worried about the fixed sights on the standard. They were dead on right out of the box. Accurate and dependable pistol. Only negative....they are a bear to disassemble and reassemble until you do it a few times. You Tube videos that show when to insert / remove the magazine and when to point the pistol up or down and when to hold the trigger depressed help...A LOT.
@txkevin1313 They are a pain to disassemble I started using the bucket cleaner sold my cylinder and slide years ago so I do not have to screw with taking it apart unless absolutely necessary. But they are worth the trouble they are absolute tack drivers. Thanks for watching
I obtained a new Ruger Mark III Hunter, and after looking around and testing various CCI ammo I decided to stick with the "Velocitor" 22lr by CCI. The pistol holds 10 rounds in the rather small and thin magazine. Keep in touch because I will post a video under roldans titled, my ruger mark III so you can see this wonderful pistol. Best
I am so excited! I just picked up my Mk3 Standard today! I picked that one based on this video! I have wanted one for a long time, and finally, I got it. I am all about practicality, and this video helped me decide exactly the one I wanted... cannot wait to shoot it! Thank you for this video!
i have owned several ruger 22 pistols.i much prefer the 22/45 because of the grip angle and familiar location of the controls, make it the clear winner to me.
@dcarpen1 The problem I have with the 22/45 is the bulkiness of the magazines, it is hard to carry spares with that t-shape plastic piece at the bottom, other than that it is a good choice
Thanks, I was in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan and was shooting a model 12 S&W Basically a lightweight Model 10 the same as when it came out of a box, with no modifications I had pardon the pun but an absolute blast, toward the end we were seeing who could hit the staples holding the target up, The best way to increase skill it to have a good time.
Well i use three if it is cold and I am wearing bulky cloths or on a snow machine, I use a shoulder rig, if it is decent weather and I am hunting I use a Hunter Holster with a Top Strap, if it is warm and I am just screwing around I uses a Yahki Slide Holster, also I never use anything but leather holsters for any of my guns
I picked up a stainless Mk II 22/45 slightly used for $199. It's a great pistol and I'd have no qualms about using it for self defense or in a bug-out/survival situation.

If this guy is really shooting groups like this from stock MK II's at 25 yards he should be on the US small bore pistol team.
Eurotrash4367 1 year ago
@Eurotrash4367 That guy does not shoot on any team but he goes on the history channel and others as an expert and shoots the same kind of shots.

You will not do better than this 22, great price, they function very well, and your great grandchildren will be shooting them.
