i think what your friend was talking about is that a more experienced man (who was typically significantly older) would train younger men (noobs) because the women didn't want to and refused to dance with an inexperienced partner.

I don't think that's the reason. In the very beginning, tango was only danced in brothels and places where all the immigrants of Argentina gathered and caroused together as a universal means of expression and companionship. The men would dance with the prostitutes, but also with each other. The tango back then was very different to the sensual dance we know now. It wasn't until decades later that it devloped that way.

You can negative comment all you want, doesn't make what he's saying false. This act can easily titillate gay men..and straight women. However the broader observation is the beauty in the physical movement and grace of the dancers in co-ordination to the music, in other words ... the art. Both aspects exist, it's sad however that the poster perceives the gay aspect more than the beauty of the act.
