God Bless Glenn Miller and his whole generation. Music today pales by comparison. His music as well as the music of many others helped to uplift the dark war mood of the day.
Sun Valley hasn't changed much in 70 years--many of the lodges shown in the movie still exist only everything is a lot pricier and somewhat elitist. And man the people!! Never saw so many good looking women congregated in one spot in my whole life.
Now I remember the comment I wanted to make... 0:31 1930's telephone poles! There are very similar (now dysfunct) poles like this along the railroad that parallels I-55 in Northern Illinois. I've been watching these for almost 30 years as they slowly deteriorate and lose their glass transformers. Now I know what time period they came from.
If you look at it today on Google Earth it's not as built up as I would have expected a ski resort to be 70 years later. That large heated pool (or hot tub) looks about the same!
Can we survive Glenn Miller, a non-actor, throwing a snowball, and Milton Berle and Sonja Henie (both non-singers) sitting next to each other and singing in a sleigh all in the same movie sequence? Yes, I think we can. It's a fun tune.
