  • The joke may not get old, but Spade certainly has, lol.

  • spade is right, it never gets old

  • I really dont think it ruined the movie. I love this movie........its funny.

  • i would watch Fat guy in a little coat all day

  • I love how most of the comments are ppl complaining about how this ruins the movie somehow and the others are talking about how amazing the quality is on this youtube video, haha

  • Way to ruin a classic movie you fucking assholes. Flagged and disliked.

  • @RootMomIsComin4U so because of this commercial the movie is completely ruined and you will never watch it again. why dont you make sure your not on your period when you type in comments.

  • @RootMomIsComin4U How did this Commercial ruin the movie? I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to understand what you're saying.

  • Cris Farley you will always be missed thumbs up if you agree

  • I like how the suggestion was Party in the U.S.A.

  • This quality is amazing.

  • I loved that scene in the movie. The little additions for the commercial was pretty funny, too.

  • Comment removed

  • how could you not like this

  • @Gillyweedstoner makes me laugh how people complain when they had nothing to do with him. david was his best friend and he didnt mind, neither did chris's family. i love chris and this just cracks me up. its not offensive to anyone so get a grip people!!!!!

  • comedy genius, and now marketing genius. if you object STFU

  • FAT GUY INA LITTLE COAT XD never gets old

  • Rob Foooooooooord

  • I can't believe people got their panties in a twist over this thing, for a few reasons: 1.Chris Farley's family/estate signed off and said they were fine with it. That says it all, but in addition: 2. This movie is as much Spade's as it is Farley's, and they were good friends. 3. It gives us a bit of 90s nostalgia and may have introduced a new generation to Chris's comedy, and what's wrong with that. Especially when most comedy today rips off the good stuff from long ago.

  • Spade put it perfect when asked if he was trying to make money off his friend with this commercial. he said if I wanted to make money off Chris, I would've wrote a book a long time ago.

  • This commercial helps keep Chris's memory alive, and introduce him to fans that may not be familiar with his work. As for David Spade only being funny on SNL and two Farley films that just not so. "Just Shoot me," and "The Rules of Engagement," are both very funny shows, not to mention Spade has been in several funny films. I'm not going to speak for Chris, but crying over this commercial is a waste of tears!

  • Chris Farley=Fucking Awesome!

  • Chris Farley himself would laugh at this. People need to calm down.

  • A werry funny comercial tribute to the funniest man ever.Your the best Farley and always will be.Chris shoud be honored and laugh about this if he would be alive.Rip Chris Farley.

  • I wasn't offended. I got a laugh when I saw this commercial amidst the normal dross that is television these days. I don't know how it would be offensive.

  • can somebody rescue mehh from my loneliness really bored today

  • everyone needs to stop saying: "well chris farley would have wanted it" and crap like that. None of you KNEW him so how the hell would you know what he wants

  • @forrestfire101 I knew him! He was my uncle. And he WOULD HAVE wanted it so shut your fucking face!

    RIP Uncle Chris

  • @LoQueSoyEsReal ok first off you fat sack of shit that cant even sing to save your own life his not your uncle. If he was your uncle am pretty sure you would have atleast have a video saying something about your wannabe uncle not singing while all your fat is stuck on your throat trying to block your air ok prove it.

  • @LoQueSoyEsReal I don't know you, but I do know you are lying because he is MY uncle and we're obviously not related. Tom Farley is MY Dad, and the only sibling of Chris Farley's that had kids at the time of his death... Me, my older sister, and my younger brother... you are clearly not my sister or my brother... therefore it's a lie.

  • @ekfarley14 Nobody cares about your family tree.. lol

  • @ekfarley14 lol @ the last name farley and lying about being related just because......FAIL and FAIL some more...

  • @mizzmeekz make whatever comment you want, but don't tag me in it... I have better things to do than indulge in this and I don't enjoy getting constant notifications from youtube.

  • If anyone knew what chris would have wanted... i'm sure chris' family and one of his closest friends know... i like the ad. and the ad is about ICONIC movies.. and if they think tommy boy is an iconic movie, i'b be flattered to.

  • David Spade is such a whore for commercials. He has never done anything funny outside of SNL and the 2 Chris Farley movies.

  • Comment removed

  • man cant you guys understand that okay sure hes dead but he was a great guy and he wasint selling him out chris's family had no problem with it so guys just dnt worry spade is a great and funny guy and so is chris... its just a good movie that alot of people saw and figure hey lets make an advertisment on it! so please dnt take this offenceive

  • @deadlydisease7

I don't find anything 'offenceive' here. Chris Farley died over a decade ago. this commercial is amusing.

  • i have no prob with it but some people are douches and need to get over it david spade and chris were best frends and he wants people to remember chris and so he makes a commercial and people become critics

  • The Farley estate approved it, so lighten up. I think that Chris Farley was a good comedian and I don't see this as an attack, but instead a homage.

Also, I think that Farley was better on film than on SNL, but that's just my opinion.

  • David Spade must really need to money to sell out his dead friend

  • I think its a good commercial, I think it may get younger people who were too young to see this movie. Farley was and still is a great talent. He was the best, and now more people might be able to see that.

  • I can't believe they have a dead guy selling DirectTV poor Chris Farlely if i was his family i would be really pissed off I hate when they do this shit!

  • chris farleys family had no problems with it

  • Why do people complain about this commercial and not the Gene Kelly Singin' in the rain techno remix?

  • LA Writer, do you have nothing better to do than monitor posts for this video all day and criticize people for their opinions? You have commented on a bunch of posts and everyone has given you thumbs downs, take a hint and get a life you d-bag. Did God tell you Farley wouldn't like this commercial?? boo hoooo

  • what kind of loser writes absolutely unrelated bullshit on yt? me, yeah. and im hot as sin

  • this is if anything a compliment to farley...

why would they use a shitty movie reference for an advertisement...

it was a great movie thats why.

imitation is the greatest form of flattery.

  • this video makes my butt cheeks jiggle with excitment.. know what i mean? hammer time

  • it's funny. what's wrong with the commercial?

  • Mountains out of molehills.

    That's all i'll say.

  • Oh my god, I'm gonna go strap some bombs to myself and kill David Spade over this harmless advertisement! I am so offended. You're such a bad man, Spade! LEAVE FARLEY ALONE!!!!! LEAVE HIM ALONE!!! STOP IT

  • i don't get what's so "tasteless" about this ad. people are stupid.

  • @ordealbyfire the issue is that chris farley has been dead for quite some time and because of this it seems like david spade is just trying to make a buck off if his dead friend and really thats not cool......

  • whats so offensive?

  • who cares!! loved farley glad to see him again...

  • boo

  • LOL man if Farley was alive he would laugh at this, i don't find it offensive at all.

  • Okay, I can maybe see how this would possibly be offensive if they were using, for example, private home movies of Farley and mocking him in those. Or maybe I would have been upset if Spade's character in the movie hadn't been such a jerk. Spades attitude in the ad is biting, but let's face it, that was what his character in the movie was too.

  • Wait, hold on. This is supposed to be "tasteless"? It's nothing more than a movie reference. Of course Spade is gonna make money from doing this, it's a commercial, that's how it works.

  • Not only is Spade going to make money but so will Farley's brothers due to the movie reference.

  • If Chris farley's family is ok with it the so am I

  • it's kinda like watching videos of a dead grandparent. R.I.P. Chris....

  • R.I.P.

    Chris Farley :*(

  • miau bin total ensam heute wer hat bock zu chatten oder telen

  • ist das Deutsch?

  • Spade got $200,000. Yep that's why my DTV bill was so high. Likely gave Beyonce 3 million. Bill was about 32 buck when I first got it and about 65 when I canceled. No upgrades.

  • Much ado about nothing..

  • homage? Yeah cause he need a DTV ad to remind us he was relevant and his paid friend loves him. Whatever....It's about selling out to some corporation. A very small ad compared to the Tommy Boy movie. Pathetic.

I got rid of DTV cause it's damn expensive. Probably cause they spend so much on ads.

  • way to be negative about it, the farley family agreed to this

  • it's not them being a sellout; stop being so high on yourself

They're using a popular scene from a funny movie so that everyone can relate. Everyone loves this scene, and why would Chris Farley be against this idea? He made this movie so that people would SEE it and laugh, not be too scared to show it because they think it's disrespectful

  • High on myself? I get the concept. Think the ad sucks and Spade just wanted the money. Said Farley would "be stoked" about the ad. Shows how Lame Farley was and that Spade knows a 12 year dead guy like DTV humor.

Maybe he can sell McDonalds during the superbowl. Point is Spade just wanted money and said himself he would not do it again.

  • no dude

Just imagine your best friend passed away a couple years ago, but before he died he did some really funny thing at school.

Now, at your 10-year reunion, you would want to show the video of him doing that thing! Not to make money or anything, but to remind people of how cool and lovable your friend was. Think about it. You would want people to remember one of the highlights of your friend's life.

and he wouldn't do it again because of the reaction it got, not cuz he felt bad

  • And you cashed a check for $200,000.

Not a huge deal. Everyone sells out. I just get annoyed when people get called on it and say they aren't. Then they cash the large check.

It's got nothing to do with some fitional 10 year reunion. This is a corporation trying to sell you overpriced service in a not so cleaver ad that Farley would be as Spade said, "stoked" about.

    A Tribute with 200k attached. That's funny.

  • dude none of us know exactly who was thinking what

but at least be open to the fact that maybe Spade isn't as greedy and insensitive as you might think.

Look he's got to make a living, and acting/ making appearances his is job. Just because he got paid to do this doesn't lower his respect Chris Farley at all.

I know you think that is wrong on some moral level, but really it isn't.

If Farley was still alive would this still be a sell-out? No!

him not being here doesn't change that

  • But Dude I thought it was something out of homage. Look he got 200k to "honor" his dead friend & shilling Satellite TV, end of story.

I call what I think is wrong on some moral level. You stick to your view.

Yes is Farley were alive it would still be selling out. I have a problem with all these DTV commercials to start with. This one just made me a little more sick.

Look for Spade or Pam Anderson to write drug filled tell-all to cash in again. Both are apparently broke with dead careers.

  • A great homage from one of the world's funniest men to another. Farley isn't smiling down from heaven - he's laughing his ass off.

  • Comment removed

  • It makes you wish they were really together in this commercial. This is a nice tribute to David Spade's close friend.

  • I'd obviously rather be stuck with "that"...directv has dvr.

  • I don't know much about either actor but Tommy Boy is one of my favorite movies. From what I've read, David Spade was Chris Farley's best friend. He's always been closed when it comes to his friend. I lost my best friend a few years ago. I have the feeling that this advert had very little to do with self promotion.

  • Actually it is David Spade

  • It is a scene redone from a movie, how many directv ads are like this. Good golly. I love Chris. ♥♥♥ I seen my hubby watching TV and this "part of the movie" was on. I had no idea it was commercial, the volume was off. Then I seen this again and registered right away. Directv is doing this. Too much of coincidence to walk in on the same part twice. I think it rocks.

  • I've seen this movie a million times and still laugh every time...I don't find the commercial to be in bad taste at all, in fact I think it's brilliant...The antics of Chris Farley never do get old; he brings us joy and laughter even 12 years after his tragic departing.

  • where is the outrage? you people are just making up drama. Chris would want people to laugh, that was what he loved to do.

  • That's obviously not the same actor

  • Would Farley approve of getting laughs from beyond the grave? Gee I wonder...

  • Nothing upsetting about this ad. It just shows Chris doing what he loved, entertaining people.

  • How can you think this in bad taste when you plan on talking to Michael Jackson from the great beyond

  • I'm surprised Spade did this, considering his relationship with Chris and his tragic death.

  • Uh, they were best friends...

  • Comment removed

  • that's capitalism

  • Wooooooooooooooow. Capitalism fail

  • The critics are whiners. It was a funny film, and this is a tribute to Farley. Hence why his family wasn't offended by it and signed off on it.

  • exactly!

  • equally agreed

  • @Baldmelon i'm glad spade was able to do it. I woulda thought it might have been a little hard on him.

  • COOL !

  • I thought this was a little weird when I saw it the other day. All these DirecTV commercials are stupid anyways, this one isn't really helping.

  • good

  • I'd hang out with chris farley over television anyday.

  • Chris Farley is awesome. timeless. just like Spade said, "never gets old"

  • Didn't he die?

  • it's trick photography...just like all the other

    D-tv ads

  • i find this kind of offensive considering the circumstances. i would have thought david spade would have rejected this kind of a commercial considering he and farley were friends

  • When he says "never gets old", is he referring to the joke or Chris Farley?

  • I know a lot of people that quote that movie often. Fat guy in a little coat is up there with anything from Airplane or Caddyshack in some circles. Spade may be lame for taking the job, but nobody cares when Abbot and Costello are used in an ad, or even recreating John Lennon for that video game. Nothing much to complain about. Spade is a comedy hack and hasn't been funny in a long time. Dana Carvey will be doing a commercial with Hans and Franz soon.

  • I don't get what the big deal is... I think it's funny & I bet that's the way any comedian would like to be remembered, as being funny/good @ what they do

  • right, farley was such a paragon of self-respect and a beacon of dignity while alive that this is insulting to him. where do you whackos come from?

  • I am not a DirecTV fan But this commercial is Awesome.

And i know that if Chris Farley was alive he would think the same.

Chris Farley was a GOD in the world of comedy.

  • this is a great commercial

  • hahaha! i thought it was funny

  • I enjoy this. To anyone who finds this to offend you "GET OVER IT AND YOUR SELF!!!!" really!!! I find it funny...

  • Yea rite u all like EVERY1 else on YouTube r nothin but a bunch of bored individuals who hav nothin else better 2 do than 2 complain about things an ppl u all claim 2 care about but really dont. I mean u all r honestly goin 2 say that u TRULY care about an ad that characterizes the career of some1 u never even knew while also not affectin u ne way?

    Yea, ok.

Stop usin YOUR OWN "MORALS" as ammunition 4 bashin other ppl w/ different opinions, or in this case, interpretations. Fuckin hypocrites.

  • If you are offended by that you need to just stfu permanently

  • Billy Mays is alive

  • I know WHO is taking offense, its the "fat" peope he says "Fat guy little coat" which is funny ok Hell farley WOULD think it was funny, you think this is offensive?

Put my balls in your mouth

  • Comment removed

  • Have your balls even dropped yet LOL3r.

  • Hey I'm fat so f you! I think it is hilarious. I love Chris and miss him. Kiss my fat a... baby.

  • Look im not tryg to be ffensive BUT u shouldnt take fucking offense to this comment so if u do lick it

  • it's not insensitive. :)

  • Wats with everyone saying this is in bad taste and is offensive? i think it's funny and a great way to remember one of the late great comedy actors. if u find this offensive then ur way to up tight. Hell i bet farley wou;d think it was funny.

  • It's just a matter of opinion and how you take the ad. Those of you all bashing other people simply b/c you think their opinions are "heartless" are complete hypocrites because only "heartless" people bash others for having different interpretations on something like a commercial. Plus none of you all in a hissy fit over this most likely never even knew Farley personally yet you all care enough to go into an uproar over a commercial?

  • the only thing offensive about this ad is david spade's hair cut.

  • 1 those are your words 2 you are dumb and 3 I wonder why of all the comments on here you picked mine to rant on.

If you were famous would you not want your stuff still played in some form so ppl will never forget who you are and what you accomplished?

If you would say please stop showing ppl what great work I did cuz I am dead you are stupid. I know I would want ppl to laugh at my comedy 1 more time. Corporate America or not that is how I would feel.

  • I dotn know how they said this was in bad taste. The way Spde says "It never gets old" was a way of saying Chris Farley is timeless. And its true. Im a huge Farley fan. And for 32 seconds it felt like he was alive again.

  • Not offensive, Farley would be honored.

  • This does not offend me one bit. I think it's a fun tribute to a great movie and a guy that died too early. "Never gets old". Does it make me want to buy DirecTV? No. It simply is an entertaining commercial so it's really just DirecTV's problem because I don't care about the service, just the funny commercials.

  • Why would this be offensive? They are paying respect to how funny he is, how his brand of humor "never gets old". I think people have too much time on their hands and are trying to find the "next big topic" to stir the proverbial pot.

  • Not sure why some people are complaining about this commercial. Direct TV turned one of the funniest scenes into a commercial. Nothing wrong with that at all. Chris Farley isn't the only actor who is dead that appears in commercials these days....Elvis, John Wayne, Marolyn Monroe....I could go on and on.

  • I thought such a comment was a nice little tribute to a man who was so talented at being funny that his movies just funny today as they were over 12 years ago. All Direct TV saying is that you can enjoy great, funny movies such as "Tommy Boy" on their service.

  • shut up haters plz its funny and theres nothing wrong wit it

  • i say long live the memory of Chris Farley.

I don't understand what the problem is that people got with this commercial. It doesn't insult him or anyone or makes fun of how he died.

I guess these same people don't listen to music that was done by people who are DEAD. idiots.

  • Some of you people need to chill out. Chris Farley was a hilarious and beloved actor, especially to those of us who were still kids growing up up in the early 90's. Though this ad may be a little inappropriate due to Farley being dead, there is NOTHING in its content that is outright disrespectful. "Tommy Boy" was a great movie and Direct TV hit on that when Spade say's "It never gets old."

  • and as far as direct tv as an effective advertiser, mission accomplished, people know this commercial, know its for direct tv, and have generated conversation both positive and negative about direct tv.

  • What was the point of this?

  • Not a big deal, think about it, would Chris Farley object, while i cant speak for him, im sure he appreciates the thought, that even after death, he is still a major entertainer.

  • so what....hes a famous actor...if anything they are doing a good thing showing tribute to a great actor.

  • Not a big deal, etc.

  • Oh please. No one would care if the dude was alive. Get over it.

  • wshts wrong with this commercial i actullay ike it

  • This ad just makes me sad...am I supposed to now relate direct TV with a beloved SNL character?

It puts David Spade a few notches down, Farley a few up, and makes Direct TV generally look like asswipes. So I can't see how it's effective advertising.

  • I think the only way this could be publicly seen as disrespectful is if someone views it as demeaning to Chris Farley or demeaning to fat people in general. I think in no way would Chri Farley take this offensively because he did the freaking joke in the first place.

If fat peopple in general feel disrespected then instead of feeling sorry for themselves they need to do something about their weight issue.

  • i have no problem with this. i think its good cause you remember chris farley and how funny and cool he was. its not like there talking about drugs or anything.whoever said its distastefull shut up lol

  • you fuck'in retards(sorry retards.)so he is dead....so i jimmie hendrix, nat king cole, micheal jackson, and kurt cobain.....any one going to stop lisnting to their music??? same thing.

  • really? Using the dead to push a product? That's the same? I think you're the fuckin retard.

  • Great, now I have to go download this movie cuz once you see part of it, u gotta see it all

  • I see no problem with this. I mean if they used like Beverly Hills Ninja or something.. then I could see people being pissed... But yeah I agree its more of a tribute, people who get offended about this have a bug up their ass..

On another note.. if people freak about this God forbid DTV ever decided to make a Heath Ledger commercial.. people would collectively shit themselves..

    R.I.P. to both of em

  • why would it matter if it was beverly hills ninja?

  • Farley himself said he had a bad experience doing that movie and said he never wanted to do another like it again.. so attempting to honor him with a movie that he wasn't happy with to me would seem insulting compared to this.

  • i didnt know that. do you know why he felt that way about that movie (beverly hills ninja) just curious

  • pretty much he felt his type of physical humor was being exploited and dumbed down to the point it was boring and repetitive, he actually hated the movie the first time he saw it. I think this was on all one of his Biographic specials with the Biography channel or A&E. its sad too before he died he was cast as Shrek.. he woulda made one hell of a Shrek

  • shrek?! really?! where can i read that...because he died like 13 years before shrek came around...that would have been awsome though

  • I cant understand people thinking this is distasteful. I LOVE IT! I miss Chris Farley and this is a cool way to catch him again. I think it is a GREAT idea.

  • Farley and Spade were best friends. Farley's family approved the ad. Farley would do anything for a laugh. End of story.

Monty Python uses cardboard cutouts of Graham Chapman for laughs. Once they even "accidentally" spilled an urn supposedly containing his ashes on television.

If these stunts were pulled by people who didn't know the deceased, I'd have a problem with it. But we, the public, don't know these celebrities like their friends. Don't act like your favorite comedian is your friend.

  • I dont see how this is disrespectful at all.

If anything, its giving him more respect, even in death people still wish he could do their commercials!

Im a massive Chris Farley fan, and at first I thought maybe this commercial was somehow insulting him and thats why its a big fuss. But it isnt, its simply using the footage and adding other footage.

Do you feel bad when you watch a movie with a dead actor in it? No.

  • the guy below me is right come now chris farley would of loved to do a commercial like this dead or alive david spade would kno tht cuz he acually knew the guy personally so obviously he did for the right reasons r.i.p. chris farley

  • Its not that serious... Chris was a comedian. Why not promote it. Directv sells tv services, If it wasn't for any television services, you wouldn't know who in the hell Chris was.

  • blah blah blah. u are a fkn moron. shut up. u have no idea who he was or what chris would've thot bout this ad. so u nor i have any say if its disrespectful. no one is making fub of him either u idiot. havent u seen all of his videos? there is tons of funny shit like this on all his movies and he pretty much made fun of himself the whole time so nobody made fun of him just himelf. you are just some retard.... and so is everyone else who feels like u do. tard

  • You have no Idea who I am, I will only go as far as saying I'm related to Chris. Thats about as much time I will give to someone like you. Question? What the hell is fub? Oh did you mean something else? Ha Ha Ha Idiot!!!

  • Have some respect for Chris Farley man , a comidic legend. However i must say Chris would of loved to have done this.

    R.I.P Chris Farley

    heres one for you boy

(fat guy in a little coat ,fat guy in a little coat , richard whats happening to me)

  • This is just...weird. And wrong. David Spade should be ashamed of himself.

  • I'm sure DirecTV meant well by the ad; but that was kind of exploitative knowing Chris Farley is dead. They should've gone another route with David Spade instead of this.

  • You sound like a Direct Tv user, Tell me, doesn't it suck losing service everytime the wind blows to hard? or when it rains? They suck!! and shouldnt of used Chris to make more people suffer with there crap service!!!
