I think they got rid of the EC2s and replaced them with the EC2 SSTs... but now they're just called EC2s.. I've had both versions and they're both about the same
@eliruben123 honestly... they arent the best for my playing style... which is mostly jazz. they get a decent snare sound and could be ok for rock, but they arent articulate enough for me. I do keep the ec pwr cen rev dot on the side snare though, because I just pound on that thing
@xdrumer4 they have changed since I bought mine, but I really like them... I think they can be suitable for any style of music with the right head combinations (look at chris adler and gregg bissonette) personally I would save up and get the mapex saturns cause they'll last you a lifetime! but definitely go with mapex in my opinion. Way better than Pearl, Tama, and all that jazz... maybe on the same level as DWs but cheaper in general
GO MAPEX oh and I like the snares and hardware on my kit
Hey buddy, the holder for your cowbell [this may be a stupid question to some], did it come with the cowbell or with the kit or did it come separately?
A fellow Evans man, good deal. That side snare is a thing of BEAUTY man. Has your EMAD Reso foam ring fallen apart yet? BOTH of mine have (I'd STILL endorse Evans though!)
I heard they're working on making them more durable, but i dont know if it will matter to me, I found a solution. I have 2 EQ pads, one thick end on the batter other on the reso...THUMP! I was scared it would over muffle...nope.
My EMAD foam rings fell apart too. I just put a small bead of a glue called goop. On both sides of the of the head and firm ring holding up great Now. The reso head was moving faster than the foam ring would and would rip right through it.
i wasnt going to sell the whole kit, just the drums, and i dont think im going to sell it anymore... you can get the same drum kit really cheap these days
i like them on my toms too, but its sounds terrible on the snare... dont get it... try an evans power center, or genera dry, or genera HD dry... something white and coated...the ec sounds pretty bad in my opinion
im a player as well as drum tech and i love the whole EC series... but ive found the EC snare heads dont mix well with metal snares at all, unless theyre the thick walled type, like solid cast shells... and you should only touch the EC revdot if you play a thick wood snare or you play obnoxiously hard...
the best metal shell snare head IMO is the powercenter reverse dot, its just very responsive to the way metal shells work...
its the perfect head for a more ringy snare... theyre great for metal because in essnece theyre just G1s with that dot... but its just an even and balanced response you can just let the shell material speak for itself tone colourwise... and if the ring needs to be controlled for close miced situations its perfectly gated with a studio ring w/o sounding dead...
believe it or not, I've also used the plain old 1ply Terry Bozzio coated head on the aluminum snare. It turned out great. You should check that out some time.

I'm getting new drumheads for christmas and the drummer of my band recommended me Evans EMAD for bass. What do you think of it as a bass drum head?
Numb92 3 years ago
if you're talking about the batter head... get emad 2... those are really good heads imo
if you're talking about the front head... emad s good, but eventually the little foam ring tears from the vibration
i recommend the emad or an ec3 for the front head and and emad 2 for the batter
turtledrum13 3 years ago
Oh okay, thanks alot. I'll check those ones too before buying anything.
Numb92 3 years ago
i have emad 2 batter heads on my bass, they sound great

They suck. Go pro, used. You won't regret it.

if you can afford any cast cymbals and avoid sheet made, buy them...
in the very least get cast hats and hopefully ride and them get decent budget crashes like ZXTs

Say man...how's that aluminum snare sound with the EC head on it? I have the same snare...been thinking about trying an EC on it. Love 'em on my toms
meetmeatthe1 3 years ago
i like them on my toms too, but its sounds terrible on the snare... dont get it... try an evans power center, or genera dry, or genera HD dry... something white and coated...the ec sounds pretty bad in my opinion
turtledrum13 3 years ago
That's what I use now, an HD Dry. Thanks for the reply...you just saved me about 15 bucks.
meetmeatthe1 3 years ago
im a player as well as drum tech and i love the whole EC series... but ive found the EC snare heads dont mix well with metal snares at all, unless theyre the thick walled type, like solid cast shells... and you should only touch the EC revdot if you play a thick wood snare or you play obnoxiously hard...
the best metal shell snare head IMO is the powercenter reverse dot, its just very responsive to the way metal shells work...
littlephoenix1115 3 years ago
YEs...I've had great results with PC heads too.
meetmeatthe1 3 years ago
its the perfect head for a more ringy snare... theyre great for metal because in essnece theyre just G1s with that dot... but its just an even and balanced response you can just let the shell material speak for itself tone colourwise... and if the ring needs to be controlled for close miced situations its perfectly gated with a studio ring w/o sounding dead...
