Thank you for posting this, "rickyon", and for including the interesting facts about the lyrics!
Graduated H.S. in 1978, so this was always 'my band', and I was lucky enough to see them in concert (sixth row!) back on November 3, 1980 at the Milwaukee Arena, for the 'Audio Visions' tour ('A / V' was their last 'gold' album).
My brain's done exploded again what with all this here Kansas music I'm suddenly getting acquainted with... I totally should've been born a couple of decades ago.
@leonakita hey I've heard Styx and have done quaaludes(correct spelling)...........Kansas was one of the first arena rock bands that really gave the best show, the best live music, and if you saw them live you could say you got your moneys worth. yeah the music is different but that was part of the attraction. not a top 40 band by no means, strictly album rockers when the music meant more than the money.
Rickyon, I'm just sayin' what's on my mind: thank you and Kansas for this one. 35 years ago I was in college and I met a girl...sound familiar? I fell for her and all over everything else in my life so of course it didn't work. But this song takes me back to one of my personal mountaintops. She's still a friend but long gone and in another universe, but I will never forget her. Hey Janet, pardon me if my feelings are showing. But you knew that.
I feel like this song should be more popular... I mean, this and "Carry On" are Kansas' only two normal-ish songs. Don't get me wrong, I am a Kansas fan, but I understand a lot of people out there don't like their style of music. Even they should enjoy this song.
I have stood in the pouring Milwaukee,WI rain in shorts and a muscle shirt 5 imesto see them at summerfest and 4 more times at the miller maritime days and all of these venues the crowd is pretty small and at every concert they took the time at the end of their show to do a meet and greet!Very cool band!!
You have experienced why almost every single Kansas fan becomes truly fanatical about their band. I'm not talking about someone who's heard "Dust", "Carry On" and maybe "Point" and "Hold On". I'm talking about real fans, like yourself that really know the musical brilliance of this group and see them again and again. I've met them myself and they are truly cool!
@rickyon i compleatly agree! I hate when people at my school say they suck, because they have only heard carry on, dust, or the wall! I actually dig deep and find the hidden gems. Monolith has a lot to offer and so does Audio Visions and Masque. In Fact, im all most sick of hearing Carry on because i like all of the uknown songs now!
@cooldudebailey I agree with you. You hear the popular songs on the radio and get tired of them. I like listening to the full album and make my own decision of what I like.
Amazing when you think about all the great songs that Kansas brought. I'm so glad most of them were not mainstream and got little air time if any at all.
You're welcome! I saw them once when they dressed like hillbillies(1975) once when they dressed to the 9's (1978) once without Walsh (1982) and finally with Styx in 1996. They were awesome every time!
Your videos bring back GREAT memories Rickyon. All these videos remind me of seeing them in my hometown, right after Leftoverture was released, and also Monolith. On both tours they were dressed to the 9's. Steinhardt wore a white tux, and then wore a black tux for the Monolith tour. Steve wore his adidas shirt, tube socks, knee pads, and yellow shorts. I think that's as dressed up as he got back then. I appreciate you posting Kansas videos-one of the greatest bands of all time.
I've been a fan since 1975 and for a long time I thought that there weren't that many of us! I guess that we have Guitar Hero and a couple of movies which included Dust and Carry On(as well as you-tube!) to thank for the amazing surge in all things Kansas! There are a bunch more Kansas tunes on my channel so check them out and enjoy!
