I didnt even see that you hit another car, that sucks. She freaked and pounded her breaks, my guess she was worried that they were gonna hit her because their lane was blocked. Oh well, glad you are ok. I bet you cringe a bit when you watch this vid.
@MsLightbar Thanks. The thing is, the right lane wasn't actually blocked; there was merely a bus on the shoulder of the road, and that car in the right lane barely swerved toward her. If she'd taken no corrective action at all, she would have been fine. Her use of the brakes was totally unnecessary and catastrophic.
Your videos are quite interesting, by the way. Are you a tow truck driver or a cop or something?
@MsLightbar Wow. I once happened to stumble across an issue of a magazine devoted to the wrecking and towing industry, and there were some fascinating stories in there. I'll bet you never have a boring day at work. Who do you sell lightbars to? Folks restoring vintage police cars?
She hit her breaks for no reason? It appears she is trying to avoid the car coming into her lane. It also appears you (the one that got hit) were following too close. The more distance ya leave when following = more reaction time and stopping distance. Nice vid, thanks for posting
@MsLightbar Thanks, but I was not really following too close, because the only thing that caused my car to impact hers was me getting hit from behind. If I hadn't been rear-ended, my car would have come to a complete stop without ever hitting hers.
More importantly, the car in the right lane never posed any danger to her at all. It only made the smallest, most imperceptible swerve to its left; that is no excuse, and no reason, for her to have slammed her brakes on.
@FormerlyFlightsuit Shirley Ng, the woman who caused this accident, is truly an incompetent driver. She is a hazard to other motorists, and has no business operating a motor vehicle. I still get angry when I think about her actions on that day.
It was entirely his fault for following too closely. If he had been in accordance with the recommended 10-second following distance for commercial trucks, he would have had plenty of time and distance to come to a complete stop without hitting you.
.
"slammed her brakes on in front of me for no [...] reason."
So, in your utopia, if she had instead had a legitimate reason to panic-stop, then fault would have magically transferred to the person behind you?
@hitssquad First of all, I never said anything about it being a commercial truck, so your statement about a ten second following distance is completely irrelevant.
Secondly, this stupid, stupid woman had absolutely NO legitimate reason for abruptly mashing her brake pedal into the floor and bringing her car to a complete stop on the freeway. She is a menace to all other motorists, and should not be driving.
@hitssquad Yes, the guy behind me should have left more stopping distance between his vehicle and mine, but this whole mess wouldn't have happened if the idiot in front of me had not done the stupid, bizarre, totally irrational thing that she did.
It is an interesting and fun job.
I sell to other wrecker companies and volunteer fire/ems. Every state has different laws on colors allowed on different vehicles.
