Gackpoid in english pronounciation, "Gakupoido" in Japanese, thus, Gakupo for short, which sounds like "Gakuto", Gackt's name with Japanese pronounciation. Incredibly simple and non-confusing really. It's the same as calling someone John instead of Johnathon.
