@snake10566 It depends on the rod material and production process, However, stamping parts creates stress risers (a starting point for fractures) that can lead to failure. It seems unlikely, but it happens more often than one would expect - and not only on con-rods.
@dookiss4 Vizard has a few good points about these new blocks. 1: it has provisions for a hydraulic roller, save a bunch of money by just freshening up the stock lifters and dropping in a lumpier cam. 2: if it's an EFI engine it'll probably have decent bores, like 1 in 3 chance of just honing it up to "race" spec. Not that it would matter if you were doing a big budget stroker 383... but for a bum like me, the roller cam block I scored is a godsend. Heads + cam and basic rebuild = 450-500hp?
Hey! Guy's....Great video to watch....But, why wonld'nt you use an old block to do this motor....They say that the 1 piece rear seal 350's are know for cylinder scoring in mostly the 2 and 7 or the 1 and 8....I've taken 2 of these block's apart and have seen this first hand....So, I bought a Dart block but pretty much using the same kit you guys use the Eagle 383 stroker kit....Not knocking your video because I think it was a great video true hands on and I learned alot of new tricks....Thanks
its also important to stamp it on the the side of the rod that corresponds with the side of the engine the rod came from because alot of rods will have a little squirt hole that squirts lube on the cylinder wall.. and never use air tools for reassembly .. also be sure to remove your alignment dowels as well so they don't end up getting lost
Awesome engine rebuild videos!!! I am fourteen and love working on gasoline engines! I learned about small engines at first and now I'm getting into car engines. I am going to rebuild a 5 HP Tecumseh engine that my go-kart has which is going to be easy. I love Chevrolets and really want a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo when I get my license in two years. I will probably rebuild a V8 engine for it!!! Thank y'all very much for the engine rebuild videos!!! I've learned so much already!!!
What crank are you using. I bought a 383 stroker motor someone else built and as soon as I romped on the pedal Snap went the crank. And I hear its a common problem.
Remember align honing people is the better way as opposed to align boring honing self center wich does not make your timing chain loose. align boring just cuts exactly were it is meant too and in turn can cut closer to the block center line than you want it to.
@dunn98632 cuz its the ultimate sleeper. Im a chevelle owner, and a muscle car like that everyone expects to go fast, especially with a big block like mine. but a rusty pick up truck? If a loud rusty gmc pulled up to you and revved its engine to race, would you expect to lose?
Oh I agree on the sleeper idea but not in that year of GMC all I have is trucks no cars currently . But mine are 79 and older rigs nothing over 80 but only a few exceptions would I buy over 80.. I just do not agree on the age of the vehicle not the style.
Im looking at a 1994 bmw 325i with 115k miles. The owner advertising the cars claims he is a mechanic and has a shop. he said he had heads machined ,New Head Gasket ,Water Pump ,Valve cover gasket, New hydraulic tensioner on the side for timing chain ,New Radiator Upper and lower radiator hoses ,New aluminum Thermostat Housing ,Crank shaft position sensor New drive belts and tensioner for the power steering and water pump. Is there anything i should ask b4 buying?
how does stamping the bottom of the rod make it bad compared to on the side, im tearing an engine apart to put in my s10 and noticed it was stamped on the bottom. does this mean i need to buy new connecting rods or no or what affect will it have on my engine
@willridesbikes I did it to my engine... naww it doesn't hurt it. its just to make sure if you take way to many pistons and not put the caps on, you don't lose them.
@willridesbikes it doesn't ruin them (unless you wack the shit out of it) if the rod gets reconditioned and rebanlance thats were they grind off the weight so you could lose your number.

Hey Im about to attempt my first major overhaul of a SB 350 and Im trying to do it all on a budget so does anybody have any suggestions on what brand or company I should purchase the kit from and also wheres a good place to get a quality crank shaft? If someone could give me a little feed back that would be great.
Don't like the way your rattling off those bolts. Have you guys ever heard of checking breakaway torque, particularly on head bolts? I've seen people rattling off bolts and snapping them &/or stripping threads, so you're not very professional. Also, a decent engine builder would always have a drip tray beneath the engine so fluid don't piss out all over the place, as it did with you. And your workshop's dirty too.
@MetaTechnology1 Hey whats your shop. I would like you to build my engine because you sound like a really great guy. Somebody good to know with a lot to back himself up. As I can see here. In your youtube post. WOW! WOWEE
@DrMMHMD 1500 engines in 27 yrs is nothing to brag about mate. I've built more over the last 5 yrs. Hell, I've lost count on how many engines I've built over the last 20 yrs.
@morbitron6 Look fruit loop, if you've built that many engines, why bitch about the epa...unless- you are fag who like to bitch. Shut the fuck up and change my oil.
@MagicalMrSkylar crappy power? for the money it costs for these engines it makes damn good power! if your comparing these big iron V8's to small European or itlaian V8s that make 2 times the power... DONT. These american engines are for your everyday daily driver affordable car or truck. they are not made to be performance machines from the factory like BMW or something else.
@RightsAndPrivileges the car had a 305 tbi stock. it was weak, a reliable engine but hardly a performance engine. i picked up a 350 off of craigslist, installed new cam, lifters, timing chain, gaskets, and a good set of L89 heads. it runs good and i have less than 800 bucks into the engine. it has enough power to get out of its way and is plenty fun to drive. lots of torque
Well I have a Ford Focus LE and one of the pistons twisted and popped. We rebuilt the engine and totally fixed the header, as that was the main problem and put in some better stuff, and put in a new filter ass well. Now we got it back in, fully build and all. Its smoking and stuff like crazy. that should eventually stop. But its also going crazy in nuetral, it heavily slows down and vibrates hard. and the spark plugs fall out eventually as well. Help me here?

i have a 1997 sierra 1500 witht he 5.7 vortec in it any1 know what type for fuek system it has, Carbed? TBI? or something eles and where can i get a rebuilt engine and for how much or how much would you charge to rebuild my motor??
I have to admit if i need any work I would definitly give it to you. You act like you want my work not like some of the shade tree mechanicx that post on YouTube and act that they know it all
Lot of times a reman is cheaper,a reman 1988 to 1995 350 from Jasper is $1,200 and machine shops charge at least $1,500.00.GM performance parts does sell a 1996 and up 383 stroker crate engine.
n.1. Something, such as a machine or an engine, that produces or imparts motion.
2. A device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy, especially an internal-combustion engine or an arrangement of coils and magnets that converts electric current into mechanical power.
1. I don't give a fuck what a dictionary says; I was told by a mechanic who rebuilds engines every single day for the past 20 years its an engine not a motor
@meandmyevo In North Carolina, Rhode Island, Delaware, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Utah it stands for Division of Motor Vehicles, and in every other estate it stands for Department of Motor Vehicles.
@Killinemdead1 Oh fuck it, every state seems hell-bent on being unique in it's department nomenclature. check out wikipedia, they have a full list of stupid names that the DMV gets called. "Kentucky Transportation Cabinet", India Bureau of Motor Vehicles" etc.
You were wrong and so was I. You still shouldn't be such an asshole though.
@meandmyevo you did not say that you called him a fag and that he was wrong you said nothing about it being called different things in different states and about the video it is not a 6 liter its a 6.2 or 6.3 depending on what way you round
@ryanp123456 That doesn't matter at all. This, which is posted in the video, is an ENGINE. it doesn't matter what anything else is called or what you call it. That is the plain and simple truth.
@bcboy787 pedant (ped'nt): A person who lays unnecessary stress on minor or trivial points of learning, displaying a scholarship lacking in judgement or sense of proportion.
@50percentFirebird Can you do that for me? That would be awesome if you could. Ive got a pretty tight schedule. Dont have time to be mocking people on youtube.
@113cross You seem to have anger issues. I dont appreciate people acting so immature over the internet. Please say it to me in person and see what happens =)
@ndogg360 Nah bcboy787 is right, a motor is electric (electric motor), an engine (internal combustion engine) is gas. There's no such thing as a gas motor, that would be an internal combustion engine.
i had never rebuild an engine..but i want to learn so bad

Lot of times a reman is cheaper,a reman 1988 to 1995 350 from Jasper is $1,200 and machine shops charge at least $1,500.00.GM performance parts does sell a 1996 and up 383 stroker crate engine.

It's not a motor! Motors are electric! It's an ENGINE!

@bcboy787
mo·tor (mtr)
n.1. Something, such as a machine or an engine, that produces or imparts motion.
2. A device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy, especially an internal-combustion engine or an arrangement of coils and magnets that converts electric current into mechanical power.
purevisi 10 months ago
@purevisi
1. I don't give a fuck what a dictionary says; I was told by a mechanic who rebuilds engines every single day for the past 20 years its an engine not a motor
2. You're a douchebag for looking that up.

DMV = Division of Motor Vehicles.
meandmyevo 10 months ago
@meandmyevo actually its department dipshit
Killinemdead1 9 months ago
@Killinemdead1 Actually, it isn't. It's division, I just checked. Also, don't be an asshole when you're wrong.
Faggot
meandmyevo 9 months ago
@meandmyevo it really is department look it up. i'm not having this argument.
Killinemdead1 9 months ago
@meandmyevo In North Carolina, Rhode Island, Delaware, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Alaska, and Utah it stands for Division of Motor Vehicles, and in every other estate it stands for Department of Motor Vehicles.
Killinemdead1 9 months ago
@Killinemdead1 Oh fuck it, every state seems hell-bent on being unique in it's department nomenclature. check out wikipedia, they have a full list of stupid names that the DMV gets called. "Kentucky Transportation Cabinet", India Bureau of Motor Vehicles" etc.
You were wrong and so was I. You still shouldn't be such an asshole though.
meandmyevo 9 months ago
@meandmyevo actually he is right its department of motor vehicles i should know i worked at en emissions center in arizona
SuBN01z3RaT 7 months ago
@SuBN01z3RaT Like my previous comment said, different states call it different things. Up here it's called the Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles.
meandmyevo 7 months ago
@meandmyevo you did not say that you called him a fag and that he was wrong you said nothing about it being called different things in different states and about the video it is not a 6 liter its a 6.2 or 6.3 depending on what way you round
SuBN01z3RaT 7 months ago
@SuBN01z3RaT What the fuck are you babbeling about!?
meandmyevo 7 months ago
@bcboy787 sir motor is any thing that rotate. ask yourself does a engine have any components that rotate? both is ok
FARTNOISE100 9 months ago
@bcboy787 Lies! Why do we say motor sports?
ryanp123456 8 months ago
@ryanp123456 Nope. I'm right. lol people are dumb.
bcboy787 8 months ago
@bcboy787 I'm telling you the definition of motor has nothing to do with electric, types of bacteria use motors to get around.
ryanp123456 8 months ago
@ryanp123456 That doesn't matter at all. This, which is posted in the video, is an ENGINE. it doesn't matter what anything else is called or what you call it. That is the plain and simple truth.
bcboy787 8 months ago
@bcboy787 I'm not saying its not an engine, its the word I use too. All I'm saying is its not, not a motor.
ryanp123456 8 months ago
@bcboy787 That is the dumbest thing i've ever read, "General Motors, Dept. of Motor vehicles..." I could go on forever.
noun: a comparatively small and powerful engine, especially an internal-combustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, or the like.
Dumbass.
bryan23ferra 8 months ago
@bcboy787 ya i hate when people call and Engine a motor. Like my old friend calls and Engine a motor and a motor an Engine its Fuckin annoying! LOL

@113cross You seem to have anger issues. I dont appreciate people acting so immature over the internet. Please say it to me in person and see what happens =)
bcboy787 6 months ago
@bcboy787
a Motor is an Engine, and Engine is a Motor. They both mean the same thing.
ndogg360 6 months ago
@ndogg360 Nah bcboy787 is right, a motor is electric (electric motor), an engine (internal combustion engine) is gas. There's no such thing as a gas motor, that would be an internal combustion engine.
