  • aghhhhhhhh i could kill this DAM COMPUTOR IT KEEPS FREEZING

  • There are California Bloodlines in my heart. I heard John & Buffy in small and medium-sized clubs everywhere from Orange County to Marin County. A great American.

  • Hearing him sing this makes me wanna cry :( But he did write a wonderful song!!!

  • Top song this. Saw John at a 'secret' concert in Shropshire in the 80's, just him-very informal and a great night.

  • i heard stewster died in a tragical p,lane crash nerazr Camden. NJ his body was never found

  • Saw John in Liverpool in 1985 and 1989. Brilliant and very moving both times.

  • Wow!

  • Got to see John perform at a little joint off the PCH north of San Diego in the late 80s. The sound system was pathetic, but he kept going and was remarkable for his ability to transcend and for his lack of ego. Afterward, I told him what an influence he had been when he was still with the Kingston Trio and how much I enjoyed his music. He could not have been nicer and wanted to know what I was doing in my life! A real gentleman and a true talent. Thank you, John.

  • John Stewart (September 5, 1939 January 19, 2008)

    "A Daydream Believer"....

  • john no longer with us?anyone know how old and how, cheers.

  • He got better as he got older! Wonderful!!

  • Neil Diamond also wrote the Monkees' next hit, "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You"...

  • A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You came out BEFORE Daydream Believer.

  • you're right;

  • Did he have the hit "Gold" in the early 80's with Stevie Nicks singing back up?

  • Yes, that song was from 1979 though.

  • Always a Daydream Believer, forever my Homecoming Queen. John helped keep my heart alive for decades. Thank you John.

  • One of my idols.

A great performer, Unfortunately I missed to meet him when he was in Sweden for the music festival in Västervik.

  • "What Are THey Laughing AT!

  • the guy never got enough credit for this great song.wish he stuck around longer.thanks for this one.

  • What a great performer he was. I miss hearing new music from him.

    Charsal

  • One of those catchy songs, especially after the Monkees sang in a slightly tweaked version of it, So funny how the crowd is off key dsinging the chorus the Monkees version while he's singing it the original.

  • Wow. Really strange. I always thought that Neil Diamond wrote this. Anyway, it it interesting how SLOW this version of the song is compared to the Monkees version. (Supposedly Peter Tork did the faster arrangement for the Monkees.) Thanks for posting this!

  • I was sure I had heard it was by Neil Diamond too.

  • Perhaps the confusion is because Neil Diamond wrote "I'm a believer" which the Monkees did as well.

  • @BigInTubetown Neil Diamond wrote the other Monkees song with the word "Believer" in the title - "I'm A Believer".

  • This is one of the top five songs of the 60s amd folks will be singing it 100 years from now. Wonderful and so sad to see John's performance here.

  • Touches my heart time and time again. Mr Stewart was evidently a brave man who fought till the end. Always in loving memory.

  • thanks for this song johnny boy..it will live forever

  • RIP John, we love you!

  • I think it would be an interesting concept to put out an album of Monkees songs performed by the person or persons who wrote or co-wrote them. The two Believer songs (J. Stewart and N. Diamond), Carole King doing "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (once heard a great demo by her of this), Boyce and Hart doing "I Wanna Be Free" and maybe some others, etc. Maybe Mike Nesmith doing his own version of something like "Tapioca Tundra".

  • Boyce and Hart did a fast version of "I Wanna Be Free" as well as a version of the Monkees theme. They were used on the pilot episode (unaired). I don't think these versions were released, though.

  • It sucks his death was overshadowed by stupid Ledger and Renfro...See you on the b-side

  • I find it amazing that John was capable of picking up the Kingston Trio's repetoire, then carry it on to additional heights. His friendship with Nick Reynolds and Dave Guard became legendary. His solo career gained him the singular attention he deserved as well. Perhaps we'll know you in another time and place, John. So long for now.

  • Thanks John Stewart For The Music which always

    brings a good feeling! RIP

  • Thanks Paul. I feel as though I was right there in the audience hearing John sing Daydream Believe one last time. Thanks for all you've shared here.

    David Ruiz (aka KeyWestBoy)

  • RIP, thanks for the amazing music!

  • So sad to hear of John Stewart's passing. Thanks to Paul ryboltcox for posting this fine performance.

  • havent listened to Johns music in a long while but the years come reeling back after hearing todays sad news. His persona and music

were inspirational, ive gotta dig those cd's out now. A person we were lucky to share times with.

  • What a beautiful song. Sort of like a John Cheever story.

  • On the day I've read that John has died, I thought this song appropriate.

    Who knew?

    reggie

  • John Stewart is fucking ace.

  • Thanks Paul ... Thanks John

    Triofan John
