  • i watched this when i was 6 and still love this movie

  • He had to do a barrel roll on takeoff didn't he! EPICness Extreme!

  • awsome movie, I'm gona go watch it now.... :)

  • 89 people have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada

  • @sirbaksalot195... knock on wood!

  • How many people are left to save the universe?

    Including yourself?

    One!

  • one?

  • love this film sadly some of the cast have passed away.

  • "The Gunstar is my fav. starfighter of all time!!"

  • It's really rather sad that a good portion of the cast from this film is dead. Grig and Centauri won't be coming back. :(

  • Zenon mist? :P

  • @lestef23 1:10 That line was way ahead of its time. Actually, there is a such thing as Xenon mist. It occurs on xenon gas discharged headlamps for cars and suv's when damp weather causes condensation to get in. There's also a xenon mist adhesive glue that you can buy on ebay. And lets not forget, the characters in this movie are light years more advanced than us earthlings. One could only imagine what they could do with a chemical like Xenon.

  • @TheTallMan35 Hehehe! Coolos! ^^

  • I found that today at the store......a true EPIC!!!!

  • Grig is cool.

  • love this scene i remember when i first saw this film. !!

  • I believe they are remaking this movie. Havent heard a release date.

  • It's going to be a slaughter!

    THAT'S THE SPIRIT! :)

  • Y' know, besides all the early CGI (which is impressive for the time it was made) is the super snappy dialog and humor of this movie, which really makes it great; something that Tron Legacy sorely lacks. What a bummer.

  • "Battling evil in another dimension"? Oh, so THIS is where the Dragonball Z dub got the idea from!

All joking aside, this was a great movie, although sad to say the early CG didn't look as good as model work from the same period. The Gunstar was cool, but the action wasn't as good as Return of the Jedi from the year before. Still, awesome film. Death Blossom ruled.

  • @ 2:26

you can see inside the 3d render LOL!

  • makes the original tron look stone age

  • @noxx2020

Don't really agree, because Tron was supposed to be a virtual world, whereas TLS was supposed to be the real world. So Tron has actually dated a lot less than TLS.

  • "No matter how many times I see it-it takes my breath away seeing this scene!"

  • @MrWINNSLAW I wish someone would put up the other preflight checklist... the bit just before the main battle where Grig keeps citing his advice and Alex recounts the Starfighter mantra... love that bit

  • Where is MY Gunstar?

  • i miss this movie i have to get it back

  • can someone upload the ''victory or death!'' part?

  • "WAIT A SECOND NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT ME BEING THE ONLY STAR FIGHTER LEFT IN THE GALAXY TO TAKE ON THE ENEMY. TAKE ME BACK HOME NOW!"

  • SO awesome :) thank you for the upload - I was 2 when this was made. Much <3

  • General Motors didn't make no GunStars.

  • I'm just getting into the film aspect of my media arts class at Full Sail and this was mentioned. Def impressive for it's time....DEFINITELY!

  • HIs girlfriend in the movie was one of my 80's girls wet dreams

  • @Mamawaldi07 think her name is Catherine Mary Stewart she was hot!

  • I loved this movie as well and had hoped that even though it wasn't a success, they would do a sequel. It was a classic "feel good" movie of the time. The CGI was top of the line at the time, so give them credit. Heck look at Star Trek III: The search for Spock, other than the physical models used in that movie the special computer effects weren't that great!

  • @kaleidomagic Check out Starfighter on IMDB then.

  • @zbyszanna Well! I am so glad to see that, but 2010 is almost over and nothing is there. I hope he does make the new movie, and I will be one of the first in line to get a ticket. I hope he keeps it safe for kids as I want to take mine to this movie as well.

  • Awesome movie Lance Guest was like the Mark Hammil of 1984!

  • The only starship cooler than the Starfury ;)

The CGI holds up marginally well, except for the exhaust effects. Still, I should rent this again...

  • so when are arcades going to be just like this spaceship? it would be fun to spin around in a "gunnary chair" inside a virtual reality room....xbox 3?

  • Being a Starfighter is like being in on a bank robbery....every man wishes he could do it just once! ;-)

  • "ONE?!" LoL. I still love that exchange.

  • ...And remember, Dan O'Herlihey is also OCP's boss in Robocop.

  • Death is a primitive concept. I prefer to think of them as battling evil in another dimension.

  • @CaptainChaos777 Just like the English dub of Dragon Ball Z, the 4-Kidz version at least

  • She may not have shields, but the Gunstar is 1 of the coolest starfighters out there. That 'deflection' plating/armor did prove its worth. And of course, the Death Blossom.

  • @ImperialGenKlenner She's not really a fight though, so much as a gunship, seeing as all her weapons are on movable turrets and she has a two-man crew similar to modern helecoptor gunships

  • I think the only reason this film wasn't successful was because it came out in the same era as the Star Wars movie. If it had come out a few years earlier or later it would have been recognized for the classic that it is.

  • This wasn't built by General Motors.

  • This was such an original movie concept that it's not surprising that the "remake" industry that Hollywood has become never pcked up and went with this movie with sequals, TV shows and merchandizing. It only goes to show that the final truly inovative people the movie industry every employed are long dead.

  • @sirbarksalot195 so funny and true

  • @sirbarksalot195 We should threaten to fuck unborn babies!

  • @sirbarksalot195 Actually, director Nick Castle WANTS to do a sequel. Apparently there are rights issues or something that's preventing it. All I know is that it was apparently going to revolve mostly around Alex and Maggie's son who is now a Starfighter or something like that. Could work, but I hope that if it does get made, the Gunstar should be left alone. The ship design is iconic with this movie.

  • I want a Gunstar.

  • The special effects are great but the movie wouldn't be half as much fun without Dan O'Herlihy and Robert Preston. They really made it worth watching.

  • Grig should of had cool lizard contact lences...

  • This was a cool movie man...

  • ed grimsley coast to coast speaks on this war

  • I like griff. He's got the british style that is appealing.

  • Of course the prototype is 15x better than the full production models. lol

  • He's probably saying "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!" when the helmet comes down.

  • Such a badass movie. And yes, the CGI was amazing for it's time. Still impresses me to this day.

  • How many are left?

    Including yourself? One.

    ONE?!?!

  • Love those mid 80s graphics, awesome. Also, funny to think that the actor playing the alien pilot is also the same guy who played the old boss guy in Robocop :) Can almost hear him saying... 'nice shootin' son, what's your name?' :)

  • Wohooo I looove that spaceship ! Man I'm sooo gonna see that movie again! Seen it in the 80s, damn impressive CGI!

Btw the game in the movie strongly resembles Namco's Starblade. You have to play it! =)

  • Always loved the thrust vectoring on Gunstar 1; funny that it would serve as an inspiration for the Star Fury fighters of the Babylon 5 television series.

  • HISHE Should have made one where Alex goes back to Space kicks some butt, then creates a whole lotta new Starfighters with Maggie. Living in a cave that never went anywhere.

  • "I'll have it all figured out by the time we reach the frontier"

    BEEP BEEP BEEP

    "What's that?"

    "The frontier"

  • Xenon mist or Zenon mist?

  • Xenon

  • The Last Starfighter: Still one of the greatest movies ever made. Look up "Timeless Classic" in the dictionary and The Last Starfighter is the #1 definition.

  • Okay where is HISHE with the alternate ending where Grig fails to stop Alex in time before he pushes the button and Gunstar 1 goes deathblossom before launch?

  • lol pause :55

  • "How many are left"?

    "Including yourself"?

    "Yeah"

    "One"!

    "One"?

  • LOL, I love the look on his face when Grig tells him it's suspended in the zenon mist. He's like, WTH?

  • omg this movie was EPIC

    Lance Guest was a pimp

  • man..... now i want to watch the whole thing.

  • This movie is so full of win, even more considering when it was made.

They better not mess up any remake or sequel. Or there will be hell to pay!

  • Best youtube comment I've seen in a looong time. So true.

  • C'mon! This movie is pure classic!! My kids like it decades later.

  • Director: "SyriusBelsferg, the guy commenting on The Last

Starfighter's remake-sequel, is headed this way. What do we do?!"

    Producer: "We die!"

  • Ah-ha, ha, ha ha! X-D

  • So THAT'S where Dragonball Z got the idea of using "in another dimension" as a euphimism for death from!

The Gunstar- still the greatest sci-fi movie warship ever made.

  • Wow! It's like Greg is giving a video game tutorial! Bring back sweet memories!

  • 1:09 <3

  • That alien was my favorite character.

  • the alien was so cool

  • Hey, some of the Closeup-shots of the Fighter are quite neat, even today.

  • still love that;

    "including yourself?"

    "yeah!"

    "one!"

  • Love that freakin flight suit. Would love to have one for cosplay.

  • "Death is a primitive concept. I prefer to think of them as battling evil in another dimension."

  • What an amazing film! Probably one of my favorites, along with Enemy Mine! Space movies of my childhood!

  • Dude! A sequel would be great- like if Alex is now recruiting kids on Earth by way of a game on XBOX

  • I would have chosen the STARFIGHTER simulator on PLAYSTATION 3...Considering how those PLAYSTATION DUAL JOYSTICK ANALOG CONTROLLERS are used in tanks and many applications

  • Man...such a great movie. It's too bad it didn't get a sequel, especially since apparently they were going to at one point.

  • Wikipedia's listing for this movie talks of a possible sequel to be released in 2010.

We'll have to wait and see.

  • Hate to say it...but I bet they'll do some crappy re-make!! Hopefully, whatever they do, they will do it justice!!

  • About 80% of Hollywood's remakes are utter crap. The rest are decent, and about 5% of those are actually quite good. Lets hope "Starfighter" will be among the best.

  • Being from the 1980's,I gave up on Holywood RE-MAKES DECADES AGO....>=(P Only 3 films was done decent-#1-TERMINATOR FILMS...#2-The TIME MACHINE(used different actors,But used same Time Machine Prop from the Oringinal!) #3-What was that movie where guy got revenge on people using RATS?

  • Great movie!

  • I love this movie!

  • Grig Skitterson

  • Wow like alex in that movie has a choice tho let evil win or fight them off. What would you choose let it go take on the enemy?

  • I'd figure out: "If I do nothing, I'll be dead for sure. If I intervene, I might die or I might succeed. Let's go kick some Ko-Dan ass!"

  • Wow that's some damn impressive CGI for 1984. O_O

  • The CGI models were made from a CRAY SUPERCOMPUTER.

so it is DAMN impressive CGI for its time.

  • Incredible actually. I just looked it up and it was 1984.

  • @DjPyro44 I loved this movie. How the time passed by.

  • @DjPyro44 This was the first film to use CG so extensively

  • Target lights, target lights? Yes, I thought you'd might want to squeeze off a few rounds....after all it is her maiden voyage.

  • EPIC ending to that scene! I loved this movie back in the day!

  • Love his reaction when he learns he's the only one, screaming into his helmet during takeoff, lets you know how deep he's in it.

"One ship, it'll be a slaughter!"

    "That's the spirit!"

    "No, MY slaughter!"

  • Oh great, i'm about to be killed a million miles from nowhere with a Gung-ho iguana telling me to relax!

  • Wonder what alex sweared just after the launch when we see him swearing under the face visor but not earing anything :D

  • he says "What the f*^k does that mean?

  • We grownups from the 1980's hardly see anything new like the Last Star Fighter.

  • MENTAL

  • this movie is wonderful

  • I LOVE this movie..still have it on vhs. There still isn't a Region 2 version on dvd. :(

  • even modern pc games dont look this good... we all need crays :D

  • We gotta love the 80's, great movie
