  • I get so irritated with people who think breastfeeding is a "grown-up" topic. Ridiculous. Do they think that as soon as a child understands breastfeeding they lose their innocence? Or that the child is going "Yeah, that's hot!" Wake up people! They were designed to nourish offspring. Grown men are just lucky they get to play with them once in a while. We americans should be ashamed of ourselves for even trying to make a breastfeeding woman feel as if she's doing something inappropriate.

  • @beckycorning My problem is not with children learning about breastfeeding, it's people arbitrarily drawing lines in the sand. OK, it's fine for children to learn about breastfeeding. Now why shouldn't they learn sex exists? Do you think they'll suddenly start having sex? Why is sex or sexual organs so demonized? Why do some parents teach their children to mispronounce "penis" and "vagina" as if they are bad words?

That's all I'm saying. Don't just stop at "breastfeeding".

  • I breastfed both my kids and would do it the same no matter what. I am a proponent of BF but not a fanatic. It took time for people to be brainwashed that formula was better so it will take time to educate that breast IS best. Nature is not imperfect... That being said, some people who are on an crusade to chastize those who choose not to BF need to get off their soapbox b/c I'm sure their entire life hasn't been perfect and I'd bet that before they became nursing moms they were "sexy" women

  • I think that little kids like 4 or 5 shouldn't know about this type of stuff

  • @gawesome11 : Why in the world shouldn't they know about this? I've got photos of my then 2-year-old daughter "breast feeding" her baby dolls. It's the way mammals feed their babies.

  • @shannonfannon1 becasue then they'll get questions like where do babies come from? And you should wait until they're old enough to understand

  • @gawesome11 GASP! Oh no! You will have to communicate with your inquisitive child!? OH NO! Please, at any age you can talk to your child. If your child if your child is very young answer them in a manner that is appropriate to their age. If you can't figure that out it may have been something you might have thought about before having kids, no? Keeping them in the dark about life is NOT how to raise a child.

  • @progressiveparenting Breastfeeding is normal. Will you shield their eyes at the zoo or County Fair if a calf is nursing or baby pigs or kittens or puppies? Really? It's the same thing. Easy to explain. This kid gets it, why don't you?

  • @gawesome11 WHY?! If you are giong to say 4 and 5 year olds shouldn't know how babies eat you at least have to say why! Breasts are NOT just for sex! People, how do you NOT get that if we explain how our bodies work, little girls wont grow up thinking their bodies only function is to be pleasing to the eye and little boys wont grow up objectifying women and say foolish things like 4 and 5 year olds shouldn't know how bodies function! Really?!

  • I'm not really hating on breastfeeding at all, or even doing it in public, but I was born in the mid-80s and this kind of creeps me out, honestly. Generational gap, I guess. Blame the internet for the oversexualization of women (vs. the natural sexualization of them).

  • And by the way, all of you females saying that "breasts are meant to feed children" and that "We have oversexualized them" well, yeah- YOU have. And you do, all the time.

Just sayin. If you want to breastfeed in public, go for it. But you are no longer allowed to wear clothes or swimsuits that show off your breasts in any "Sexy" ways.

  • @royhatts1 Nobody tells me what to do with my body other than the law, thanks very much, and the law defends my right to sexualize my breasts or use them in a non-sexual context to feed a baby. Breasts are dual-purpose body parts.

  • @lorelome Well, if you happily sexualize your breasts, don't expect people to stop sexualizing them when you whip them out in public, even when it is to feed a baby.

You can't have it both ways, but as a woman, I'm sure that is very hard for you to understand.

  • @royhatts1 No, I think it's hard for YOU to understand that one thing can have two uses. I know many men and women who understand that breasts can be sexy or useful, depending on the circumstances. And please don't go back to that overdone genderbashing/intelligence thing. That's so classless.

  • @lorelome So then who determines what is "sexy" and what is "useful"?

What makes me a little bothered is that any time a group of angry parents deems something is OK, that is the thing that gets pushed. That is the issue that becomes "important". Oh no, children aren't learning about BREASTFEEDING from Elmo! Give me a break.

Parents: get over yourself. You aren't special and neither are your children. I think some things are natural and beautiful, like sex and cursing. But they won't be on TV.

  • @royhatts1 Sex and cursing aren't on TV? Where do you live? LOL!

  • @royhatts1 Since you are against dual-purpose body parts I'm sure you have given up ejaculating since the penis is only for peeing, right?

  • @perkulaterful Who said I was against dual purpose body parts? If you want to whip your breast out in public, I should be able to let my penis hang out in public too. Except one of us would be arrested and the other would not.

Also, why not teach preteen boys the correct ways to masturbate, since ejaculation and masturbation are perfectly natural?

  • @royhatts1 Ridiculous argument. You would be arrested because you are asinine! A breast is MADE for nourishing a child, notice you do not see Maria's breast in this video! Yeesh, people breastfeeding is normal. Your problem with breasts and it's function is not.

  • @progressiveparenting Why? I didn't say I would do anything sexual or urinate with my penis. It's just a penis. And it's just as natural as a breast. And if a breasts being exposed in public is natural, then simply exposing my penis- with no sexual connotations- should be legal too.

And sex and cursing aren't on TV. I live in the U.S. On broadcast networks especially it is ILLEGAL to curse or show nudity, even though there's nothing wrong with either.

  • @royhatts1 I LOVE YOU FOR THIS. Exactly. Like, why not have masturbating muppets as well? Or at least show Bert & Ernie waking up with twin stiffies in the morning...

  • I just find it so funny that we cannot so breastfeeding or breasts for that matter on television anymore, something that is just as natural as child birth, yet they both get censored in someway on public television. Hell, the only reason breasts have become sexual is because of the fact that we keep them covered. take two women, one naked and the other wearing a skimpy bikini: the one wearing the bikini would be more sexual because it leaves us wondering what is beneath it.

  • "Yeah she's drinking milk from my BREAST."

  • Does anyone know what year this was?

  • @starsarai720 she gave birth to Gabi in 1988 so this would have had to have been either 1988 or 1989, somewhere in there.

  • yum yum

  • I love this. I breastfeed both my kids and u find it repulsive that people are pressuring women to keep it hidden! if and when I have another child, I will breastfeed them and teach my other kids that it is the most natural and best way to feed a baby!!

  • Why do children need

    To no about breast feeding?

  • @Romanthah It's a part of life, like spelling "know" correctly.

  • @MarshalGrover lol!

  • @Romanthah Because it's the most natural, normal way to feed a child. If children don't see it, there's the potential they could grow up not knowing what breasts are truly for- feeding children.

  • @Romanthah it's better to teach people from a young age what breasts are really for. It's because of women being pushed to keep breastfeeding private, that so many people nowadays look down upon nursing in pubic, and the view that breasts are sex organs. That's all the media pushes...boobs=sex. Videos like this show that this is not true!

  • @Romanthah Children need to know about breastfeeding because nowadays it's very rare for them to see it, even though it used to be normal. As a result, they think that breasts are only for sex or "inappropriate" things, and when they do see breastfeeding or consider doing it themselves as adults, they feel like it is a shameful or disgusting act. Children should learn from a young age that breastfeeding is healthy and natural and completely appropriate.

  • @Romanthah So they can learn about the importance of feeding human milk to human babies.

  • hooray for sesame street!! its time for them to do it again and stop all this ignorance aboiut breastfeeding!! its natural and beautiful and she is completely modest here. beautifuly done sesame street beautifully done.

  • i just wish i could have done that with my daughter =( but the idiot Ex didnt want me doing THAT..

  • @angelgirl7473 No wonder he's an "EX"! =D

  • @kevonmanuel

Your definition of porn is quite frightening.

  • I'm a breastfeeding mother. Breasts were meant for breastfeeding! Teaching kids that it's normal is the thing to do! And I wish that nursing uncovered in public was more accepted. We have sexualized breasts so much that most don't even accept what they were made for anymore. That saddens me deeply.

  • @lilmizzc00kie As long as you're fine with people taking pictures of it to masturbate to.

    Just sayin.

  • you will never see this on children's television today!

  • ilove i t it was arounnd 95 i remember chekki thin the the credits as child t o see i y

  • @greentree68 No, they aren't too little to understand. Milk comes from breasts and that's how babies are fed. It's not difficult or offensive. My children were all breastfed and they all know that's how babies eat.

  • @greentree68 Dude...that's where they got their food from. Are you saying mothers shouldn't breastfeed if there are weaned children in the house?

  • Me next Maria... Saw her on sesame street the other day... Ole gals STILL got it! Maria for spiciest cougar ever. Period.

  • @buddhapotpie You next, eh Buddha? Must be real thirsty, dude. It's customary for someone your age to get cold milk from the fridge, but hey, if you like the warm stuff... wait, I don't think she still has it. LOL

  • @buddhapotpie lol

  • *sigh* Back in the days of innoccnce where they could get away with things like this at anyone's expese. Nowadays....pfft--we get all bent outta shape when they show Katy Perry's...parts...or a child without a shirt on, etc...Why are people so picky?

  • WTF!?! (Freak)

  • Can anyone please post the clip of Buffy bathing Cody? Thanks!

  • some people are reminiscing about 1970s sesame street and how this would never be shown now, but this clip is from 1990 at the latest. gabriella was born in 1989. i remember watching that episode. i guess that's 20+ years ago, but still...my little brother was born in 1989 as well, so this was a good thing for me and other kids my age to see.

  • Such a beautiful things...it is nice to see all the comments from others that support breastfeeding. It seems like such an umcommon thing now.i am 22 and noone with little ones my age nurse their babies...wont even give it a try.and yeah i love that they show breastfeeding on a kid show....now they dont want to offend ANYONE...everything is so safe...it is ridiculous!!

  • Who's that girl with Maria and Gabi?

  • what episode # is this?

  • @teehonky nah you are liar where's the proof the actress who plays Maria acted in those movie huh? where's the proof!

  • i can remember when my kids were little. i was nursing my baby, and my 3 y/o son started trying to nurse his barney stuffed animal. i thought my husband was gonna die. all i did was give him a little bottle, and tell him that daddies fed their babies with a bottle. and he was cool.

  • "She's drinking milk from my --" SAY WHA?!!!! ON A KIDS' SHOW?!! Man, I kinda miss the days where they told it straight. Still shocks me a bit, though. Wow.

  • can any1 here imajin maria naked?

  • i fell the fuck out @ 'she's drinking milk from my breast'.

  • @JennelleBelle Perhaps that is because your comments would show you to be a jerk?

  • Heh "real food."

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @Teankun LMFAO XD

  • Ok, how was this able to air, but Katy Perry's little skit with Elmo wasn't?

Can anyone say double standard? What about hipocracy?

  • @DorvellTStewart agreed, But for some reason, parents have to have a hissy fit when something "inappropriate" is on their kids' show.

I personally don't see the big deal myself. Seems like an innocent sketch to me - I'm talking about both this, and the Katy Perry/Elmo sketch.

But, SS has gone thru cutting things before. (Remember "I Wanna Monster To Be My Friend" song/sketch)--I think that's the title???) - they took it off the air because a line in the song which parents (CONT)

  • @DorvellTStewart This is how we are Born to feed its complety natural. Katy Perrys breast falling out in a sexual way on a kids show is very very diff to this.

  • @elesha76 They weren't really "falling out in a sexual way". If people are going to make a big fuss because of katy perry then I can see why they could make a fuss about this too.

  • WOOOOO!!!! Breastfeeding is BESTFEEDING!

  • World Breastfeeding Week is August 1st-7th.

  • I grew up on sesame street. Specially the old episodes. Havent seen this before. This was before all the politically correctness bullshit came on. Sesame Street rocked during the early 70s. Remember Stevie Wonder's performance on the sesame street lot and the kids were rockin out? Man, that was awesum!!

  • this is really sweet... I liked this...

  • wow, they said the "B" word.

  • I wish more kid's tv programmes did this nowadays. Children get so much of breasts being sexualised that a lot of them don't really know what breasts are actually for.

  • I never saw this here clip! That's interesting.

  • Maria was born for this role...and btw... it was Sesame Street that made me gay.....long live Mr. Hooper!

  • One of the reasons I loved Sesame Street (under the tutelage of Jim Henson) was that they touched many subjects about life in a respectful, responsible, and creative way that allowed kids to learn life lessons in a manner to which they could understand. I miss the old Sesame Street.

  • lucky-ass baby

  • @gravity5 it was a girl... smh

  • This IS a remake of the segment where Buffy nurses baby Cody lol

  • @JacobAranza

    lol... Idiot

  • Even though there's really nothing wrong with it, I was shocked to hear someone say "breast" on "Sesame Street"!

  • Well, Sesame Street CAN go into a little bit of anatomy and science, so that's why it is so educational.

  • @snoopy64116 I agree.

  • Do you know where you can get this episode in full so my friend can show it to her kids?

  • Aww, just like the one with Buffy and Big Bird! Was that Gabi when she was a little baby?

  • Was this banned from being aired?

  • Nope. I remember watching this episode with my kids as clearly as I remember watching a scene as a child just like this in 1977. Buffy Sainte Marie was a regular on the show and she nursed her child, Cody, in a skit very similar to this one.

  • I loved Maria! This was a cute sketch.

  • dang i watched it twice and the word breast caught me off guard both times.

  • I don't remember this. It surprises me to see it, but I don't find it offensive. It's not as if they showed anything, and most kids with younger siblings see this anyway in real life.

  • my thoughts exactly. i mean its not like most of us haven't seen this sort of thing growing up.

  • whats a beaner?

  • This is like the EXACT scene with Big Bird and Buffy... right up to the "Ya know... thats nice."

  • even though i read the title it still shocked me a little hearing maria say breast

  • I've heard of women breast feeding up to 6 years after having a kid... is that possible...? can a woman with no kids have breast milk?

  • yes, it's possible, if she kept up her milk supply after she had her kid. pumping, taking medications and supplements, etc.

there have even been women who never gave birth at all, but adopted babies, and forced their bodies to start lactating so that they could breastfeed their new baby.

  • breasts produce milk after childbirth as long as there is stimulation. it's the same way we get milk from cows actually.

it is possible for a breast to produce milk w/o having been pregnant, but it is very rare. sometimes animals can spontaneously produce milk for "adopted" family members, too. google some stuff on it it's pretty cool. :)

  • I have heard of mothers breast feeding until the child decides it doesn't want it anymore...6 years or older. So long as they are regularly feeding the child, she will keep making milk.

  • There is actually something on here of a woman who was still breastfeeding her daughter at eight years old just search breast feeding at eight-and a childless woman can have nipple secretions but that is usually cause for concern and should be medically evaluated

  • We have to do more to encourage women to breastfeed. It is not only perfect for optimum health of our children ..but also women. It reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer.

It is ALSO environmentally friendly. No methane producing cows needed...no damage to the earth from production, packaging or distribution!! AND no disposal of waste products..no accessories needed.

Do all you can to promote, encourage and support women to feed their OWN young...the organic milk they deserve!

  • @sarahsclips I agree, but I'd like to point out that those cows are going to produce just as much methane with or without breast feeding. :(

  • @luccaskunk ...Oh I meant that I think there would be less cows needed because the amount of formula being produced is huge. I personally don't drink cups of cows milk...the thought of swallowing a cup of cow's breast milk revolts me. I do eat it in cooking but won't drink a glass full of it...It makes me wonder how people can be against a baby or toddler drinking human milk but they don't care two hoots about them drinking the milk from another species....weird the more you think about it.

  • @sarahsclips ..... (Cont) Interpreted it as "Molesting" children.

  • @sarahsclips Well there are those chances that breast feeding can harm the baby. It is very rare but It can happen.

  • @sarahsclips You also sometimes get to see a boob in public.

  • What year was this? I know the one with Buffy was the 70's. Was this the 80's?

  • i think this is around 1989 or so..

  • They would never show this on tv now. Let alone say 'breast' on a kid's show. I miss the REAL Sesame Street.

  • I agree!

  • I was just thinking the same thing. Though, I haven't watched years, I was just thinking about how a show wouldn't dare show this now. It's so PC. Breast feeding is natural. It is not anything for women to be ashamed about. Especially when the mother takes good care to cover herself, and Maria did.

  • @clarklesparkle That's right. The outcry about the Katy Perry sketch is proof of that.

  • @clarklesparkle Sesame street is very bottle feeding oriented now.

  • This is great. Sesame St. is taking reality and putting it on TV, in a way little kids can understand it. I saw my little brothers and sisters get breastfed when I was a little kid myself; this segment would have been perfectly relateable - and I bet a lot of kids with younger siblings feel this way.

I bet this would be censored today.

  • "That's nice." Big Bird said the same thing. :)

  • So sweet! :-)

  • i wonder if the censors tried to censor this, those bastards.

  • Wow.

  • I don't like this one as much as I like the Big Bird/Buffy breastfeeding segment

  • Might as well call this a new video. "Maria Nurses Gabi"

  • You know, she IS a lucky baby. All babies should be so lucky to have their mother breastfeed them. Baby gets to bond with mommy and get all the nourishment that the breastmilk naturally provides. LUCKY BABY!

  • Since I was a baby, I never been Breastfeed with my mom and so did Emillo.

  • That's beautiful. :)

  • Hmmmmm....one comment reads "Lucky baby"

The other reads "dickweed cut it out asshole"

I'm CERTAIN readers can see the personality differences between YodaBannon & RodCornholio from their comments.

Are YodaBannon's words something appropriate for children to be reading?

  • Breastfeeding is important, this is great that they are (were) explaining it to kids.

  • am i the only one that thought Maria was the finest female on Earth back when I was a kid?

  • Probably not although I for me, the appreciation for her beauty became more apparent as an adult.

  • How nice. Does anyone know what year this was put on Sesame? It was a good lesson about caring for a baby for little children to learn from...

  • It's from Season 21.

  • @driftwood97

    1977

  • omg the kid on there is like ohh!

  • So Sesame Street got there before Little Britain! And they handled it so well too. Off to see if the Buffy Sainte-Marie breastfeeding is on here somewhere.

  • As a breastfeeding mom, I think this video is heartwarming and beautiful. So sad that it wouldnt be on sesame street today. Thanks for posting

  • Did we skip the 90s ?!

It appears that we're definitely going to be skipping this decade. So sad.
