Well ASUS says that this is do to a faulty hard drive so unless you have a warranty on it or go buy a new hard drive ( if you have a warranty on it then manually replacing the hard drive will void it) your sol

so ... i have F3Jr, and i think that if the hidden recovery partition on HDD is formatted or deleted it will be impossible to recover vista from DVD (((

In my BIOS was "IDE CONFIGURATION --> SATA MODE --> change the option there from enhanced to COMPATIBLE :)

sorry for my english. you must switch the item in bios from AHCI to COMPATIBLE mode. then recovery will work with no problems.
