This version of Range Rover is my dream car and since dreams not always comes true I want to buy one from 1997-2000 with BMW diesel engine. Is that a good choice? I know about air suspension but what about other issues? Can anybody help?
He said about Land Cruiser "the sense of invincibility about it..." and few years later we have a Toyota Hilux Invincible. They really know something about cars:)
Clarkson seriously can't say anything good about an American product.
I mean come on, they're promoting here a Range Rover is a decent off roader? LOL that's a laugh. He spends insane amounts of time nitpicking at American interiors EVERYTIME. Must be some underlying societal anti American issues he deals with
He's absolutely mad. Range Rovers are TERRIBLE off road cars. All you'd end up doing is getting you're leather and endangered-animal-pelt seat covers all muddy only to be upside down moments later. Get a Jeep. Semi-cheap, reliable, easy to fix, multipurpose. You just can't go wrong
@AwesomeAlvin Two jeeps? Try 3 Wranglers with change for the top model with all the options, 4 if you don't care for all the little extra creature comforts.
Typical English racist propaganda against Japanese made cars. Its bad enough towards human beings now its filtering down to automobiles. Land Rover's a shit 4X4. The best 4x4 'in the world' is the Toyota Land Cruiser.
@Sillmeister the old ones are good for very rugged off road but isnt comftable. its like the defender. the new land crusuier is abit too school run car. the range rover ( not landrover) combines good offroad performance with luxury
Jeep Wrangler would whip every one of those vehicles.
Or a 1995 Jeep Cherokee with some mods. That would also win out. I've been inside of one while it was doing some major rock climbing that you wouldn't think it possible for any vehicle to do.
I've also been in a Wrangler while it was going down a 45 degree grade. Inside the car it felt like 80 degrees...
Clarkson has a blatant hard-on for Range Rovers. That Grand Cherokee would have done great but as you can tell by the fast spinning wheels for the actual test they were in high range engine floored up the hill. For the interior shot they apparently switched it into low range... deception! Probably because in low it was making it up the mud hill just fine. *sigh* also even with a good set of AT tires that Jeep would have destroyed the competition. I have the same Grand Cherokee and its amazing!
@CompCrasher86 they didnt doubt it in terrain, but in terms of build-quality and interior space, and that just is better in the RRover, but dont be offended, its double the price, it has to be a bit better..ps i love the Gcherokee but objectively think that the Range Rover and the G class are the best;) but thats not considering the price, i repeat
@Ademan17 The G-Class really cannot compare to either Range Rover and Jeep on anything other than pavement. The 4matic system is genuinely a joke. Same goes for BMW X-drive. I must give my respect to Quattro though for their system
@Ademan17 Did you ever hear of the G-Class? right it´s the best offroader, and oh it comes, like any other good cars from germany. germany builds the fastest, the most luxurious, and the cars with the best offroad abilities! Indeed!
See why didnt they focus on the Jeep more! switch that WJ into 4 low, and take her around. but OHH NOO. always the land rover. Sure. Until you get some electrical problem like its known for. Then see how well you work in the lake.
@ShockwavePaintball jeep have the same problems my friend! or you forgot that too? 1, 2 and 3 gen of cherokees and grand cherokees had alotes of problem with the computer
@hitmanieves I am aware of no such problems, Jeeps are typically electrically sound due to their simplicity. The first and second generation Cherokees only have ECU and TCM, thats it. There is no body controle module and everything else is hardwired directly. 4x4 is 100% mechanical on all Jeeps until the 05 Grand Cherokee. would you care to point a couple Jeep computer glitches out, especially in regards to the 1st and 2nd gen Cherokees and Grand Cherokees?
my only issue with the range rovers, other than the enormous price tag, is the fact that they won't last. i don't know about ones built in britain, but the ones in the US are notorious for being expensive and rather unreliable in the long run. amazing vehicles? totally. worth it? only if you're rich.
I'd like to see Clarkson's review of the 2011 Grand Cherokee. The crappy interior is gone, and when they started moving them out the door a few months ago, the total sales for the entire Jeep brand went up over 300%.
@mtb416 They're trying to push the V6 these days, I guess because the new 3.6L is a comparatively very cheap motor to make (even compared to competitors' V6 offerings) and at the same time gives 280+ horsepower and quite a good amount of torque. Most buyers would probably prefer to have the 3.6 over the 5.7 because it's got all the power that most (non-petrolhead) buyers would want, and gets better mileage. I'd still have to take the Hemi, though.
Why compare a Grand Cherokee? I'd like to see how the Land Rover stacks up against a Hummer or a Jeep Wrangler. If you think the English countryside is bad, try the American South! Americans do off road. They might not have the luxury features that the Rover has, but who cares about luxury in a 4x4?
I appreciated the clip. I admit the Caddy is a little out of its element, but I'd like to see a little more structure to the experiment. First, they didn't all set out on the same route so the competition is as much about human error as engineering. Second, the only footage they provided of the American cars were from inside the Rover. I liked the clip, but I still think a Hummer or Wrangler could keep up with the Rover if all conditions are equal.
I would love to see Jeremy's Rover humbled by a Wrangler. I've noticed some bias when it comes to which cars and which ways he chooses to compare American to Euro cars.
I'll take my Jeep over any terrain against any Rover Jeremy has got. I'll meet him in Syracuse for some fun in the snow or in some Appalachian mud if he's up for it. USA all the way!
@TheCloudsThunder terrible clip to use to prove your point. the H2 is a joke to all things offroad and the only reason they put a 4x4 system in an escalade is to give it extra traction to pull its heavy ass up hills. if they really wanted to test out the best 4x4 with non biased they should have used the RR, a Jeep Wrangler and a Toyota Landcruiser. true 4x4 not these other jokes
es cuestión de células de la cabeza del que es el automovilista o la por que todos los talleres del mundo y cualquier marca de 4x4 se ven casos que pone a pensar si sabemos o no como se les debe manejar por que hasta en las mejores familias los rallan

@EDog1o1 You twit. Put the same modification's on the rover and you have the same damn thing. Oh and I hate rovers, I'm a Cruiser guy, but this pissing match between Jeeps, Rovers, and Cruisers is getting really old.
Grand cherokee with all terrains or even better mud terrains and easily pull out the shit range rover with £19,000+ spare. When its slippery like that you want a really skinny tire that will dig into the ground not a fat range rover tire designed for motorways where it belongs.
@TheRobertB That Rangy is what Americans wanted for road biased use, but the Rangy could also have had different tires. The current JGC is too short for me to get in to without having my head crunched against the roof.
he should have let the Jeep pull them out ... =) but i guess Jeremy was afraid it would make the Range Rover look bad ... BTW notice when he was going down hill, he was supposed to release his foot off the brakes and the Range Rover was supposed to do the rest well that's not the case, notice his brake lights when they show a rear angle of the car.. shame on you Jeremy
@detroitjeeper actually the light go on automatically to let others know that your going slow. part of the whole saftey crap that british car have, hell I would buy the jeep and spend the extra $40,000 on upgrades and be better then the landrover and still weight less.
@mewmewkitti05 ye but on road the rangie is far better infinitely better more comfortable nicer interior also in this vid its tyres werent even offroad ones the jeep also has less ground clearance and wheel articulation also how is the brake lights coming on to let the guy behind you know you slowing safety british car crap america is the place that has all the bullshit health and safety rules anyway
@detroitjeeper No, shame on you for not doing any research ... The break lights are turned on because the hill descent system is on.. As it's basically an automatic breaking system.

And i know that toyota has created a perfect weight distribution for "muddy situations" in their 4runner. so stick that in your British pipe and smoke it!
So you think the 4Runner a worthy replacement for the Land Cruiser? Is it as tough and reliable?
( seriously asking ) I mean, forget the Jeep, if there ever were "real" off-road street cars it is the Land Cruiser, the Defender and probably the Mercedes G. For going to extremes I'd prefer the Unimog or the MAN 7t mil gl ;)
@jolf1245 hello, it's been a while. I recently logged on to my youtube account and noticed our old conversation about this this topic and would like to apologize for being a stubborn smartass; so now i will try to be more open with you. However, i do still believe that the 4runner is a better off-road vehicle than the landcruiser for only one reason: it is a much lighter vehicle. They are both Toyotas, so i think it is safe to say that they are both equally reliable.
3/4 of success in off-roading make right tires, enough ground clearance and proper torque output. If you have this in combination with lockable diffs and low range gearbox, no terrain can stop your 4x4...in case you have remaining 1/4, the driving experience....
Well..... YOu see they used the new Range Rover.... But the old X5..... The Old Cherokee.....The Old Land Cruiser..... I have Hill Descend Assist on my KIA Mohave. I also have Air adaptive suspension. I have 4WD Low too.... Its not rocket science if even KIA Does it. Come on.... Get a life....
here's the thing i dont like about the range rover, dont get me wrong i love the car and i would buy it in a heartbeat, but it breaks down so easily. Always there is a electronic problem or mechanical failure so in this situation i personally would pick a jeep wrangler
I don't think you are right...... My math teacher drives a Land Rover..... And one of my other teachers drives a Range Rover. They both share the same badge colour and shape but with different name. Hence there is a difference between them. The question is what..... Because i personally had never ever seen a car called LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER........ I either see a range rover, or i see a land rover.....
wow, when did the stupid tree grow so many branches to hit? Look it up anywhere, Land Rover is the BRAND, Range Rover is the MODEL. You never see them together because saying Land Rover Range Rover is redundant. The only reason it's not just called the Range Rover is because Land Rover makes other models too, the LR2, LR3, Freelander etc. I have personally driven a Land Rover Range Rover Sport and I assure you that there is no "Range Rover" badge that looks like the Land Rover one.
WHAT?????? bull. shit. not even close, i've got a crv that'd get on better than a yukon and i've driven a RR sport on an offroad trial course and honestly it's the best thing i've ever driven in my life.
clearly he doesn't know what compression braking is.
one look at the tyres tells you all you need to know about any of the vehicles. 99% bitumen.

here's the thing i dont like about the range rover, dont get me wrong i love the car and i would buy it in a heartbeat, but it breaks down so easily. Always there is a electronic problem or mechanical failure so in this situation i personally would pick a jeep wrangler

whats the difference between a Range Rover and a Land Rover?
Heavymetal350Z 2 years ago
oh wow, not a car person are you? Land Rover is the make, Range Rover is the model (i.e. the car is called the Land Rover Range Rover)

I disagree with Jeremy. The GMC yukon is way better off-roader than a land rover, and often under-rated.

WHAT?????? bull. shit. not even close, i've got a crv that'd get on better than a yukon and i've driven a RR sport on an offroad trial course and honestly it's the best thing i've ever driven in my life.
