The problem is that American medicine insists that parents get to decide how a son's penis looks and functions, even though parents don't know enough about urology and sex to make an informed competent decision. American medicine should follow other English speaking countries and take this option away from parents. The villains here are American medical school profs, who refuse to find out the truth about circ harm, and refuse to tell the truth about circ damage. Parents are mere victims.
@alnot01 I would say that is 1/2 true. Some parents may make the decision to circ without doing much of their own research but some know both sides of the argument and still decide it is what they want to do. I know about the nerve endings and the function of the foreskin and how some people say it is mutilation and a human rights issue. But it is what we (in our family) thought was right. My husband is circ'd and there is absolutely nothign wrong with him lol

There are men who are fine at 30 who are miserable at 50 or 60. No one truly understands sex with an intact penis, because all clinical studies of intercourse were done 50 years ago at Wash U (St. Louis) using circumcised subjects. Bottom line: we should not alter a system that we do not understand. Doctors are wrong to offer circ.

when you see something as so obviously wrong or immoral, sometimes it can be hard to just accept someone's contrary opinion but no one deserves to be belittled, or bullied. as an intactivist myself, it sucks being labeled as a bully because some other intactivists forget that more flies can be caught with honey than vinegar. the vast majority of us are kind hearted people...but we are human just like everyone else, and sometimes our manners get buried under our mission.

I'm sure you did the right thing in getting your son circumcised. The medical evidence in favor is very persuasive, IMO it's irresponsible to leave the foreskin in place through childhood and adolescence when it is such a simple matter to have it removed in infancy.
@circol This study, like nearly all studies conducted in the USA and Canada, misses the point. Comparing the glans sensitivity of cut and uncut men doesn't get at the difference, which rests in the fact that circumcision removes the most sensitive parts of the penis. Sorrells et al (2007) is the only study to get this right.
One of my best friends is an intactivist. I do not think they are bad people. I just said that they take it to extreme. This video was all just my opinion. I do not like arguments (as was the point of my video) so I am not going to sit here and say I am right, you are wrong. Because I don't think that is the case. I am right for my family, but it may not be right for yours. Nothing wrong with that. The world wouldn't function if everyones opinion was the same.

But, I do see where there is a rift: for someone who feels it's a family decision (as you do) it seems like something you should get to decide without anyone else's input. The transitional region from the external to the internal foreskin is the most sensitive region of the fully intact penis, and more sensitive than the most sensitive region of the circumcised penis.

Genital cutting of girls occurs in other religions, based on religious rites of parents. Often it is only the foreskin that is removed off of the clitoris. Is this a freedom of choice/religion you would support for those parents?

Parents have to make all kind of decisiions for the welfare of their children - I never suggested OTHER people to have their daughters clitoridectomized SO WHAT!

It's the exact reason so many women don't know how menstruation works, or things about sex or pregnancy or whatever, because we CAN'T talk about it. If we do, we get judged!!! So it's like, we can't ever learn from each other and help each other, we just have to struggle and figure it out alone for fear of being judged! It's really unfortunate what women will do to feel high and mighty for 10 seconds..
