Whatta voice ! - whatta song - beautiful ! The applause at the end makes me think this is from German programme Beat Club - anyhow, thanks for posting - wonderful stuff !
What a Northern Soul classic, thanks for posting it! Dave Berry also did an excellent version of this song (which is on the Decca compilation CD, 'The Northern Soul Scene') but Madeleine Bell's performance has the edge. By chance, I found a copy of the Philips 7-inch 45 record in a box at home - only today, it's brilliant.
This is a great song, thanks for posting it! Have never heard it before. She only ever had one chart hit here in her native US, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me," which just made the top 30 in the spring of 1968. Could you tell me if that song was released in the UK, and how did it fare? Her version is MUCH better, IMHO, than the big hit version by the Supremes and Temptations one year later. The Supremes/Temps version is STILL played to death on oldies radio stations, but Madelines' is NEVER heard!
I absolutely agree, too--That Madeline's version of I'm Gonna Make You Love Me was better than the Temps'/Supremes' version. I had bought the Philips label version when I'm Gonna Make You Love Me came out and turned it over (as I always did) and found the 'Picture Me Gone' was another 'A' side of this 45rpm.
You're right, Madeline's version of the 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me' is never heard (shame to the industry for that!!!).
For me, the orchestration on both sides is wonderful!!
Plays smooth for me. What you consider "choppy" looks like fine, rhythmic editing using still photos (brief photomontages). I'm pretty sure that was intentional. Looks great.
One of the best voices of the last decades, somewhat underrated... love the way she sings backing vocals on 'seems like a long time', on the third Rod Stewart-album (Every picture tells a story).
great video.I know Dusty sang back up on the other side of this record"I'm gonna make you love me".I'm not sure about this song.didn't know she performed this song on TV.Thanks for posting.
