It's Jonesy distorted Clavient that does it foe me on this version. Think of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". It's around the same year as well. Jonesy copied the sound but Jimmy waited until "Trampled Underfoot" to steal the riff.
Did he install a spring in his guitar? B-Bender Tele? Really bouncy. It sounds like a tele or a strat. Wonder if he used different guitar during practice.
led zeppelin can really give all their recording magic to jimmy page and john paul jones because at the very start they knew all the tricks of recording because of their past
not that I'm defending Slash, But Welcome To The Jungle is a descending riff, while The Wanton song riff just hits an octave
Unless your talking about the descending part D, C, B, A# riff? cause everyone was using that shit back then... I dunno man it just seems so far off..
that's awesome...haha, i don't think i've ever heard it described like that...i'll have to quote you on that sometime. i agree they were amazing, especially in that era, rock on dude.
One thing that has always puzzled me, is why great bands such as Led Zepplin, Queen and Deep Purple for example, persisted in line ups with only one rhythym/lead guitar, which often detracts from the replication of many/some numbers at live performances, leaving them thin or hollow.(in my opinion).
its more the traditional rock abnd image to have one gutiarist, and they play the rhythm parts overdubbed anyway so you still usually get the fulls ong
With respect, no matter how good you are, you cannot make up for a second guitar. I f you record a song in the studio with 2 guitars and then perform it live with one--its gonna sound thin--it has to.
This is not about LZ, its about this tendency. There is a live performance of black night by DP on Utube. RB is a great guitarist but the song still misses the second guitar. Its not about egos and the purists, its about the quality of sound at a live performance for the fans.
Its not about one or two guitars. Its about music. Its awesome, so be quiet while led zeppelin is playing. You should not crtique them just thank good that they recorded music for us to hear.
I agree and disagree, ten years gone was played in 77 and sounded thin because of the missing background guitars and harmony... But on the other hand, well thought EQ can make up for a missing guitar as long as the instruments are full and locked together...
You're absolutely right about that. If you overdub 2 guitars, there's really no perfect way to redo it live. I personally think a band with a single guitarist should just record a song with a single dub.
That being said, Zeppelin's studio sound is awesome. And their live sound was awesome, but in a different way. Not too many groups could pull it off like them.
No, you bring up a good point. It's simply not possible for one guitar player to accurately reproduce the amount of overdubs that Jimi used. I've often thought, that he went a bit crazy with it.
Plant said he will likely never do work as led zeppelin again, he stated that he does not want to "tour like a bunch of bored old men following the Rolling Stones around." besides, im sure they've already done that.
yeah i read that article, i couldn't believe Plant said that though, especially the "bogus" tickets part. I was hurt that he responded that way to Page, Bonham, and Jones like that in public :(
sounds like his ego's grew... (read the article, for those who want to flame me right away) I still love him though
@KENVAIL I just noticed your most excellent comment about the Zeppelin "alternate takes" recording collection/compilation idea, kind of like The Beatles did some few years back. And, you're absolutely correct in stating the given fact that, of course, there will always be demand for more, versions, rehearsals, jam sessions, studio out-takes, behind-the-scenes, the rare and previously unreleased & the never heard before stuff, anything, just supply us with more of what we cannot get enough of
A very advanced sounding song of its time recorded about 1974, it was a premiere gem off that album, always reminds me of playing with Matchbox & Hotwheels cars,& as for that other ditty they were tinkering with at the end, I think they should have recorded it to, maybe I will,, just love basement tapes !
Dude I was hoping for video! This is cool though. I bought a bootleg album back in like 87' called Tangible Vandalism (synonym for physical graffitti) which had outtakes from the rehearsals. I'm wondering if you got the same one. Basdass shit! It was a cool replica of the graffiti album. I need to get me a record player!
sounds awesome really rare stuff long live zeppelin bonham is one of the greatest physical graffiti is one of the greatest albums it's an album that fits well with summer to in my opinion
It's Jonesy distorted Clavient that does it foe me on this version. Think of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". It's around the same year as well. Jonesy copied the sound but Jimmy waited until "Trampled Underfoot" to steal the riff.

things started to slip with presence and in through the out door with page's heroin addiction

Well that's why I like Jimmy Page because he blends rhythym/lead together when he plays live so it doesen't feel hollow.
