Chargers were in a tough situation. Brees sucked his first 3 years in SD which is why they drafted Rivers. Next thing you know Brees in playing probowl football. They offered him a $50 million contract but it was mostly incentive laced so he bounced.
I mean, you gotta understand that he suffered a major, major shoulder injury at the end of the season in 2005. That caused Chargers to lower their offer at Brees (since healthy Rivers was there), which caused Brees to move to a different team, which is the Saints.
If Brees was healthy and Chargers got rid of him, then yeah, it is the worst decision Chargers ever made.

i dont think it really mattered whether brees stayed in san diego or not. i think both teams ended up with good quarterbacks.
