I believe I have a solid philosophical foundation, and a good understanding of the mechanisms of the natural world, and that influences my own appreciation of what it means to be a good and moral human. Therefore, I believe, we no longer need this theism-based set of laws for ethical guidance. Of course, it is still an effective doctrine for many people, in many societies, but it does not satisfy those of us that are privy to it's intellectual shortcomings.
The sunday after 9/11 I went to my S. Baptist church. The crowd was larger than usual and the sermon was typically divisive. It made me angry because the preacher sounded more like a part of the problem than part of the solution. I stood up and walked out at the age of 40. Never looked back. Now this stuff sounds ignorant and sad. I know everything their going to say. Every argument. I could finish their sentences for them. I didn't realize how indoctrinated I was.
Thankfully, as these folks forget that about every decade, the Holier Than You crowd get noisier. Thankfully, they are talking to themselves. Here's the recipe:
Paranoia: REPENT; TURN YOURSELF OVER; NO SALVATION EVER
Hope: SALVATION; ETERNAL LIFE
Guilt: SIN
Solution: DOMINION; PROSELYTIZING; CONVERSION TO CHRIST (LIKE SHARIA ON THE OTHER SIDE)
What's funny is these ridiculous apologists have stumbled onto truths. One MUST understand philosophy and be rooted in truth so as to not be tossed to-and-fro by the winds of false teaching. That's why it's important to understand that Christianity is unfounded and weak. It is rooted in a Bronze Age myth and built on unauthenticated texts.
TAX CHURCHES.! Make Sunday school teachers and church youth councilors meet the same state standards of eduction that all teachers must meet. Subject religious propaganda to the same truth in advertising laws as any commercial advertisement. These snake oil salesmen have had a free ride long enough.
