  • Canada invades Montana. LOL that part was kinda funny

  • Lol i think Canada could take Montana.. if the rest of the US didn't step in. haha

  • Talk about the suffering Economy damn it, Ron has a good solution for that as well. GO RON PAUL!! GO RON PAUL!!

  • What's up with John Stossel with these needless war questions?!

  • They are not needless, he is just gathering information and allowing Ron Paul explain what he means, which is good. You cannot just say that you are going to eliminate the Department of whaterver without an explanation because you look looney. But John is allowing Ron to explain his position by asking simple question that people would ask like "is better to attack them there than here".

  • Right.

  • "Our job is to make us a better people" - I agree with this foreign policy.

  • That sounds good ideologically, but it is not pragmatic. If people are being killed - consider the gravity of that reality- and we CAN do something about it, we have a moral obligation to lend help.

  • Incorrect. Perhaps at a personal level, but our foundational document DOES NOT allow the government to interfere in other nations affairs. Nor should we allow it. An Empire always is painted as other than what it is until it's to late.

  • Where does it state that, precisely? And the goal of our military actions, particularly in Iraq, is not isolated to simply "liberating" that single country out of the goodness of our hearts. The Middle-East as a whole is an exporter of anti-Americanism that is NOT well-founded but is instead based on the rantings of Arab equivalents of Pat Robertson and Jack Van Impe. If we don't take an active role in the Middle East and change the direction of that culture, we will have many more Sept. 11s.

  • The only powers regarding foreign nations inherent in the constitution are twofold: The President, with the approval of congress, may establish embassies. Congress may declare war or issue REPRISALS and letters of marque against enemy states. That's it. And the constitution very specifically states that standing armies can exist ONLY for two years in a declared emergency. Not at all in time of peace.

  • Further, the ninth and tenth amendments BOTH specifically state that powers not specifically delegated to the Federal Government are forbidden to it, and that it is neither the arbiter nor originator of inherent rights, whether or not enumerated in it.

  • unlike modern political gobbledygook, the Constitution is short, well written, and in most aspects very precise. Like Scalia has affirmed many times, it is NOT a "living document". If it were, it would not need an internal process for amendment nor prohibitions against it's powers being exceeded. Read it. It's not difficult, nor arcane.

  • I have read it, you are completely misrepresenting it with your own libertarian "gobbledygook". It is a living document in that it CAN BE amended, that is what is meant by that statement. Likewise, the 10th Amendment states that things not specifically granted to the government are given to the states OR THE PEOPLE, which means laws can be made at the Federal level through Congress.

  • I see. English, then, is a second language for you? (cough)

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

  • I'm going to bed, take your own medicine. Read the Constitution without some Paulite leaning on your shoulder whispering quaint ideas of hyper-statism in a fantasy land where a strong Federal government isn't responsible for all of the things that have allowed this country to reach the level of civility and industrialization that it is currently at.

  • Actually, I am an anarchist and object to the state as malum in se. Paul's arguments, however, are correct in the context of what we have. The idea of utterly unlimited government is despotism. AND YOU KNOW IT. If you wish to argue for empire, why be a pussy about it?

  • Ahhh, an anarchist. I am arguing for interventionalist government, aka: "imperialism" as people in black pajamas like to say. We aren't interfering in civil countries we happen to disagree with like Cuba, Venezuela, or even the plethora of unstable SE Asian countries. We are dealing with regimes in vital locations who are horribly abusing their people and pose a threat to long-term regional stability.

  • fifty years of mindless embargo because our pet monster got off the leash is not interfering??? That's one hell of a stretch.

When we STOPPED interfering with Vietnam, look what happened. Horrible, isn't it? Free trade and a booming economy... Were it not for the character limit I could give you many more examples. Interventionism DOES NOT WORK.

  • Who do we have a 50 year embargo against? Iraq? If that's what you're talking about it wasn't 50 years and the embargoes were what led to the technical crumbling of his military that likely kept him from being even more aggressive than he was.

  • Likewise this hindsight appreciation of our intervention as if it had zero effect is convenient. Vietnam is a communist country, but the communist expansion was stopped because of the cost of further expansion. And yes, their economy is "booming"... like a penny stock up to 15 cents a share from 10, and THAT is thanks to the communists compromising their morals to allow capitalist growth and investment. That's why I have a nice cheap desk made in Vietnam.

  • Oh, and the other reason that Vietnam is doing so well now is because our preferential trade experiment established under Clinton with Cambodia expired, essentially removing the impetus for corporations to do trade with Cambodia (who has strict fair labor laws) instead of countries with very lax standards who are cheaper. As a result, a lot of the businesses from Cambodia are moving to Thailand and Vietnam... and Vietnam is the lowest bidder.

  • Oh, Iran is our pet monster. Our history with Iran is one area that I do have some gray area. When we deposed Mossadegh and put the Shah in power, we were doing it primarily to keep oil fields from being nationalized as well as toppling someone we saw at the time as a potential Soviet sympathizer. The stakes were very high in the Cold War though, so while I can agree that some decisions weren't the most effective, there were the most apparent for the world at the time.

  • Bullshit, the Federalists won the argument FOR a standing army against the anti-Feds. Likewise, the President has the authority to go to war with the consent of congress AND wage war for 90 days without consent.

  • Specifically, to maintain only enough to man the forts and magazines, and in no case greater than that for more than two years. Apparently we have been in a constant "state of emergency" since 1861.

  • Where does it state this?

  • lol @ montana could probably take care of it

  • But I still think Ron Paul should be elected president over people like Clinton, Romney, Giuliani, Obama, Huckabee, Edwards, etc., because he is more pro-freedom, has more integrity, is more authentic, and is less craving of money and power than any other Republican or Democrat in the race.

  • hfjg

  • I disagree with Ron Paul on the issue of international use of military force. I think it's important for those who have the power to do so to fight to liberate people from oppressive regimes, with force when the opportunity presents itself.

  • Yes! Absolutely right! But this is not what our country did for all this years, !

So, forget about use of power to spread good things, it is not working, it is fraud and BS. Please people be smarter and do some research before giving any f#king advice or disagreement to anybody or anywhere...

    Peace

  • ...........

  • I don't see any particular country as "our" country, because I don't view any country or government as an extension of myself. If a robber steals from me, or a rapist rapes me, is he now "my" robber, or "my" rapist? No. The association was a forced one. But if that robber sees an old woman being robbed, and has the power to intervene, should he, despite his imperfections? Yes.

  • Last comment ("I don't see any particular country...") was a response to davethebassman.

  • Tough interview, we see the true extent of Paul's non-interventionism and I think people who DO want intervention in places such as Darfur or Burma might pull back from supporting Ron. However, he makes a strong case. If we stop putting our hand out the regions of conflict might learn to work together out of sheer desperation.

  • lol wtf? canada invading montana?

  • Yeah, that was quite possibly the dumbest question I've ever heard an interviewer ask.

    Ron Paul 2008!

  • You Canadians need to concentrate on getting rid of the Queen, eh?

  • Canada invade Montana? Why would we want to invade the US? After you get rid of George Bush, you Americans should concentrate on getting rid of your crap media.

  • Why is there still even any question? You may not agree with all his policies, but there is no question he is the most intelligent, knowledgable, principled, and yes dedicated to the people of this country and to the constitution he swore to protect.

  • What the heck is John Stossel chewing on?

  • I not sure what this has to do with the Holiday message, but it was an excellent interview by Dr. Paul. He was logical, persuaive and I believe correct. It has taken me along time since 9/11 to come around to agree with his possitions.... but I have.

  • heh if canada invaded montana

  • JOHN STOSSEL has rocks in his head, he is s pea-brain moron--he is such a mindless pawn of the MSM, and Ron Paul is so much out of his league.

  • youve got him wrong, stossel and paul are good friends, john just phrases the questions that way for effect

  • Stossel represents the concerned viewers who have not yet crossed over into Ron Paul territory. He simply asks the questions in such a way as to require a certain logical logical clarity so that Ron's message may be laid clear for all to see. The Canada invade Montana question was asked in order to determine what Ron would do in a case of a country, a sovereign nation, invading our country.

  • The US uses its military to support big business. The people pay with blood so big business can have a new market.

Genocide? We did it to the American Indians.

  • Ron Paul will hold those accountable for the illegal war! That is, the government officials themselves! LETS MAKE THEM PAY FOR FOR THEIR CORRUPTION! LETS MAKE THEM PAY FOR SACRIFICING OUR TROOP'S BLOOD FOR CORRUPT NEOCON PROFITS! JOIN THE RON PAUL REVOLUTION 08!!! Vote Ron Paul!

    Pass it on ;)

  • Great thinkning questions by the interviewer and Ron Paul handled it very well.

  • Great responses by Ron Paul.

  • That's a nice rant taiwan886 with no facts to back anything up except for one: 'Democrats take money...'

  • you are ridicules Ron Paul represents everything this great country is suppose to stand for.People are fed up with all our rights being taken away.Regress this country are you kidding me?Iraq is an illegal war, wiretapping, spying and torture are all against our constitution. By the way the Income tax was suppose to be temporary and is also unconstitutional. His support is so strong because he is actually HONEST.Why don`t you look up his track record.

  • Youve been washed my friend.

  • whats your problem

  • the abc website, fucktard

  • Great quality video, thanks. 5 stars.

  • John Stossel could take Groucho Marx in a mustache fight.

  • "what if Canada attacked Montana?" haha where do they come up with this shit LOL

  • I have left several message on the ABC 20/20 comments for this show- ABC is deleting them each day and thus one never knows if there is a reply or not.

Please take a moment to courteously ask the directors of the show TO AIR THIS EXCELLENT INTERVIEW.

  • I hope canada and montana dont go to war.that would be tragic

  • Montana would kick Canada's ass though.

    Sad, but true.

But, Canada is a peaceful nation. A far more liberal nation than ours, and the extremists don't attack them.

Hey wait a minute! It's because Canada minds their own business.

  • hes one hell of a man....RP2008

  • I am a combat veteran Having served two

tours of duty in Iraq. I can tell you it is a mess and

its not getting better wake up America. You want to

know what I did over there I drove all over the

country getting shot at going through ieds losing 2 of

my best friends. I escorted oil pipes all over and you

know what I saw more going on at the oil fields than I

did see us helping the Iraqis. And almost everyday the

pipes we escorted were blown up. Wake up

    People!!!!

  • My cousins son just came back from Iraq...and when I asked him why he thought he was there, he said, "Im not sure what we are doing there, but what we HAVE done, is successfully ignited a civil war....Please bring our best and brightest home as soon as possible..

    RON PAUL

  • "If Canada invades Montana?"

"Well, Montana could probably take care of it, but we'd help them out a little."

    LOL! Ron Paul is great.

  • how many softball questions do you get before you knock one out of the park?

anyway, RP is right on one issue--Bush's war, and wrong about everything else

  • I hope you'll pardon me for offering a little comic relief...I should preface to say I saw a video where an 14 yr old boy was saved by the IDF who instructed him how to remove his bomb-vest without setting it off...asked later why he had agreed to put be a bomber - he said he didn't feel loved and nodded his head when asked if he had thought of Paradise... To see how universal this problem of being unloved is ...watch?v=COMW3IruNMo&feature=related

  • Yeah real heros the IDF...I"m sure any IDF subhuman would ever voluntarily help a Palistinian...they just grow up and wanna keep their land...Their motto is let them kill themselves...Ain't it...This is propoganda...We're not buying it...The mossad did 9-11 ! ! !

  • Mossad did it? B/S

  • There is good and bad everywhere in this world. See for yourself /watch?v=PPU4UN03t7E Ron Paul is right that policy makes all the difference in the world. Our policy regarding KSMs Bojinka (9/11) plotters went off course from the start in 1995. Our policy suffered further setback by the Neocons in 1998. See my profile for details. What other forces were involved? Multliple groups kept tabs on the plotters but nobody said its time to stop them. Almost nobody. See my profile.

  • Wtach Ron Paul videos. Rate them. Favorite them. Send them to your friends. Send them to your enemies. And once you've learned enough about Ron Paul to realize that he is the greatest presidential canddiate in the history of the United States, donate a hundred dollars to his campaign on December 16, at ronpaul2008 com

  • The Dec 16 tea party is actually a $200 dollar requested pledge but ANYTHING you can give is appreciated.

Thanks GalacticQuest- glad to have you aboard.

  • How can these idiots want to fight " terrorism " overseas, when they've left our backdoor wide open.

  • Because there is no war on terror as THEY have defined terror..

  • "it is the lack of diplomacy that is the greatest threat - not the weapons themselves."

    Ron Paul 2008
