Cool truck man. It takes me back. My first truck was a 1981 Ford F100 Ranger Explorer. It was 2WD and came from the factory with a 302 V8, C6 auto trans, and 9 inch rear. The color was metallic black with red interior. I was the second owner. Keep up the good work.
@Muzicsallitsworth no its not a boss . i have herd that the boss does come from the 385 series block which mine is . this is bbeing built with factory super cobra jet parts. such as cam, heads ,intake nothing to spectacular
@cfsb1234 what would automatically make it gay ? . hate to say it but there is nothing exciting about a striaght 6 , 2wd shortbed pickup . now is there . i bet your pecker would get hard it you seen a lifted 4wd sittin on 44's of your make and model now would it . no wait that would be gay cause its not stock.......
@mattkempharo i beg to differ straight sixes especially ford 4.9s are pretty spectacular engines theyre no 429 big block but they definitely do their intended job
@reap62 yes that is a true statement , very true . but that 4.9 was like stepping on a plum . you even gotta admit man you cant beat the towing torque and reliability of a 4.9 backed with a T18 or T19 trans , but mine was just a run of the mill AOD . nothing to show forth
my neighbor scraps a lot of cars ,the next time I see a seventys ford I'm going to cut me a front suspension off. The guy who is haveing starting problems with his big block. I have had hot start problem at the drag strip too many time, I finally broke down and bought one of those high torque mini starters and problem solved. I don't know why I waited so long.
I'm running a mini spool which is not fun on the street unless your playing. I need to go with 31 splines because i already twisted two of the 28 spline axles. I would like to use the ford posi unit, but they have a week spot where they machine out for the clutches and bolt the carrier together.
@scottydogg927 thanks ! ive been lazy on the the progress of pics and vids, but trans is built and many of the motor parts are done. painted the block a nice mustang blue , looks a bit darker than the classic ford blue
I have a 71 F100 with a 429 that I run at the drag strip 13.85 ET. I never thought of running LTD suspension, I think I would like it better than the mustang II. Where did you get the idea, and the dimensions to get it fabrcated in place
well essentially car suspension is lower to the ground and a lil bit more stable . everything custom fabed up on the spot . we scrapped the old original frame and started from scratch . the frame rails are closer togethor than the stock ford truck. plus we liked the idea of having a big block car front suspension , the ltd did come with a 429 , so engine mounts, spring rate, and all that . already solved, my 429 was originally in a 68 lincoln
first we had cut two holes and got some round pipe and welded the pipe to the backside of the bumper and bam mounted the lights . its a style known in the custom world known as frenching, latly i have been thjinking highly on selling the truck :(
get this! the box is homemade ;] . we just bought the fiberglass hips and built the inners . the truck was originally a shortbox . they are hard to come by i have only seen one other stepside in person .
ya i have a long bed and like the look of the stepside plus i want something different, my dad had a shortbed stepside when i was little, you know if the hips off a dually would work?
i have the same truck wit a 390 engine i stroked it. put open headers, pipes, exhaust, and a whole new crank still got a lot to do it . i just got some new heads and intake and don't forget a cam i upload it wen i have time . Got a little more work
what all are you gunna do to that 429? looks like quite the project but i bet it will be worth it. (not very relevant but) we have a 65 falcon ranchero with a 302 (its been cammed, bored 60 over haad plenty of head work and im not sure what else actually) and its still a work in progress but plenty of fun to drive. (350+ hp in a 2700 lb vehicle)
actually its all been stripped and magnafluxed . allthe refreshing to . i got the crank doneas well . pretty much the whole bottom end is done with it . its all paint as well with the ford mustang blue its a lil darker than than the ford blue . but its ready to go in the truck soon !
Nice - can't wait to see it when it's done! My dad's in the middle of a 1980 f100 just like yours - it's tubbed and has a 351W with 351C heads and a C4 in it. I will deffenetly add you as a friend and share pics!
thats pretty cool lets me know how it goes . are you running with the F100 chassis or what . mine is the 71 ford LTD sub chassis to hook up the motor.
where did u get that bumper?it looks ok im doing a 84 with a 408 stroker and had some luck finding some sweet after market parts if ya wanna know more hit me back..
actually its the original bumper for that truck . we jsut frenched in the fog lights . what kind of stufff did you find . like motor wise or vehicle . i just got the block back and im assembling it along with a C6 build up such as new clutches and trans brake and shift kit ect.
To bad it's an automatic but it will still be a awesome truck

I have a 1982 ford F100 with a 460 bored .030 over.
The starter/solenoid/battery is shot but you can't beat jumping in it on a summer day on a country road.
My f100 also has a ford9 inch,I got off craigslist for $25 complete with 31 spline axle shafts and pumpkin.
I put a wilwood rear disk conversion on it. Worth every penny
I have a shortbed also
Feel free to message me here if you would like to see some snaps of it.
Is your 9inch open/posi or locker?
Mine is open u
