He was able to maintain thar range until early 86 before the nodules really hit him. He unfortunately had lost most of his falsetto by then due to drug abuse.

This is great. It's pre-throat surgery Elton John, so his voice is gritty yet he can still manage some of the high notes he couldn't do anymore after the surgery.
