  • Thanks so much!

  • Wonderful Tips!!! Thanks for sharing

  • Hi, thanks so much for your tutorial! I just got my Cricut few days ago and want to make something like this for my daughter's coming up birthday this weekend. I kept having problem when the machine start cutting the paper and the fabric, the paper just came loose from the fabric and kept stuck on the blade and therefore the blade doesn't cut through the fabric. Should I get the deep blade instead?

  • Thanks for doing this. I have a Cricut Create and did not know you could cut fabric with it. I have started doing more quilting and now I am so excited!!!! :)

  • can i make superman logo with thing

  • this be cool making a replica movie costum

  • can you make custom patches with it?

  • Thanks for the tutorial. I ordered the expression 2 and can't wait to get started. I embroider and do appliques all the time using my embroidery machine, so I am interested in how you did the cupcake. What keeps the edges of the fabric from fraying once washed?

  • Oh my goodness I'm so glad i found your channel I hvae cut fabric with my cricut is it was a nightmare.:( After seeing your tutorial I will give it a try again. I cut letter for my church ervery year and this way looks so much easier is there anthing different I should do when cuting them. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Hehe. My first thought when I saw the button is "Oooooh, someone is gonna get mad about that!" Have you used it for any type of quilting, or what kind of projects do you normally use it on? I'm considering getting one of the larger machines since they can do up to 23", so I'm trying to do all of my research before springing it on my husband. This video was awesome for showing capabilities though - thank you!

  • im thinking of getting one of these machines

  • Thank you for all the great tips!!! I tried cutting fabric after this and it was easy. Wish you would make more videos....you have a talent for explaining things!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Did you use a regular blade or the blue extra deep cut blade?

  • This is sooooo awesome. Thank you so much. Can't wait to try this!!!!

  • All I can say you are amazing for this video! I could not figure this out! Thank you thank you thank you.

p.s. "ironman" you can screw yourself.

  • DO YOU THINK I COULD USE FLEECE FABRIC??

  • What speed setting did you use?

  • Nope! Didn't work! Didn't even CUT the fabric!

  • Thanks alot for this tuturial i totally didnt know the cricut cut fabric now im def gonna invest in it!!

  • Thank you!!! Great job! This really helped!

  • Thanks for the tutorial. You answered so many questions.

  • Will the cupcake stay on? or do i need to stitch it?

  • Great idea! I was wondering about cutting fabric and will give it a try! Thanks for the video!

  • thank you!! Very helpful!!

  • Thanks so much for the video. i am new to the cricut world and from the other videos out there i was worried that my little cricut would not work for this as they all have the big expression! so thanks for showing i can do this too!

  • i am new to all of this. I think you explained very well. you were detailed and easy to follow. cute idea. thanks for taking the time to post!

  • Nice video if one has no skills whatsoever when cutting an item out for applique. This would be strange for a crafty person! So find a picture of a cupcake, trace it and put it onto the paper side of the heat and bond, then attach that to the fabric... cut around by hand, you would have less fabric waste.. Then stitch it down for goodness sake, before the baby chokes on threads and buttons, "scraps of red" or your work comes off in the wash. Sorry, silly video. Coloring books offer cute pics.

  • love it...love it... more great ideals. I use fabric a lot with my dies never thought it would do well in the cricut. i use to sew so i still have lots of expensive fabric. the only thing my fabric is mostly silk & crush velvet. wondering will that work...

  • Loved the video. Keep up the great ideas!!!!!

  • Awesome Video and cute onesey!!!!! Please make more video's!!!

  • Wow! it looks awesome! thanks for sharing!!

  • Twinstar9 are you a doctor? Cause if your not i dont think you should be giving medical advise and if you are then you should lose your lisc cause you cant diganose someone without actually seeing them! You have NO IDEA what her health is! as well as im pretty sure this video has nothing to do with health! are you so bored you stalk ppls videos to insult them and make IGNORANT(uneducated/rude) comments?perhaps you should get a hobby. Unless you live with her how do you know her discipline level?

  • Thanks for the awesome video, I can't wait to try it. This is the first time I have seen one of your videos, I will look for more from you.

@twinstar9. You are very rude! If you do not have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.

  • @twinstar9 ; blah blah blah

  • I recommend using a "pressing sheet" whenever using fusible web, between your iron & fabric as well as between your ironing board cover & the fusible. This will save you ever having to clean either of them. Joann's sells the June Tailor one pretty cheaply. It's large enough to fold over & under your cutout. You may also benefit using a BRAYER, to really roll over the fabric to stick it down well, before cutting. Best wishes, Thanks for the video.

  • you are amazing!!! this was sooo helpful!!!!!

  • what a great idea. thanks for the post.

  • Thanks!I did need this project! I'm sorry,i'm brazilian woman and my english isn't very good, but i thanks again .

  • If you use a regular heat and bond, you don't have to flip it, and the paper can automatically be removed.

  • So cute!

  • Totally Cute!!! You have given me some great ideas! Thank you!

  • What a great video. I'm going to have to try this soon.

  • Great Emilie!

  • this is like my 80th time watching this one. and im finally gonna try it!!!!!

  • thanks for the video...

  • very pretty!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Thanks a lot.

  • I did not know the cricut could cut fabric, thanks so much for all the great tips! Does it wash up ok without the edges fraying? Am wondering if you need to use a satin stitch with your sewing machine over the edges if the item will be cleaned in a washing machine?

  • tks for sharing this wonderfuls tips wi th us, I have just tried (well i tought i tryied everything) and tried and tried. I will test with steam a seam2, and i will get back to you to tell you how it came out. I am panama rep. of panama, and i love my cricut machine!!! rgds, dalys

  • I was cracking up about the button and the baby .. you make me laugh .. LOVE the video

  • Great tutorial. I needed this exact lesson. Thank you for publishing.

  • Thank you, I just got a cricut last week. your tutorial really encourage me to start!!

  • thanks!♥

  • Great tutorial!!

Does the fabric fray on the cup cake when washed?

  • @c0wbelle It would unless it was blanket stitched around, like patchworkers and embroiderers do! Especially for kiddies clothes that are constantly washed. As an ex-nurse in emergency...the idea of putting anything even like a button, that a baby can and will put in its moith is ridiculous. Even a scrap of the "red fabric" can end up stuck in a small windpipe, unless of course, it is all sewn down. The product used is not intended for long time use, but to hold fabric until it is sewn.

  • Does the ends of the fabric fray??

It was a wonderful tutorial thank you!!

  • Thanks, Great help

  • OMG EVRY1!!! I Just found the COOLEST ZEBRA VINYL for cricut cutters. Just go to ebay and search cricut zebra vinyl. u gotta check it out its awesome. I cant find nething like it newhere.

  • Thank you; this was very helpful!

  • OMG. thank you sooooo soooo much. I just tried this then and it totally worked.... I cant wait to start embellising clothing.YAY... a huge thanks.

Oh i found it easier to tape down all 4 sides of the fabric too.

  • could have just cut with scissors.

  • AWESOME tutorial...thanks so much!

  • Great tutorial. Looking orward to trying this one day.

  • This doesnt work for me. The fabric just shreads.

  • ive saved this one and keep going back to it :) thanks oh and it someone is having a real issue with shedding they can try the deep cut blade or if you have the markers you could just use your cricut to draw the out lines and out around it with scissors :)

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • Thank you so much! I have been wondering how I could do this. I am so going to have my Girl Scout Troop do this with my machine.

  • This vehicle was very very helpful. Just like you did, I have tried every way that I knew possible to cut my fabric with the Cricut. I did not want to ruin my blade by using the fusible webbing. But know I can see how it works so well...many thanks to you!!!

  • Oh my gosh!! THANK YOU so much!! I just tried to cut fabric with my Cricut and I about threw the machine at the wall!!! I tried putting card stock underneath the paper and it never occured to me that that wouldnt do anything to fix the shredding problem!!

Your video is a HUGE life (and machine) saver!! THANK YOU again for the tutorial!! I cant wait to go buy the webbing stuff!!

  • Was excited about cutting fabric because I do a lot of embroidery digitizing for applique & cutting the fabric pieces to make them fit is tedious. Made 3 cuts with best luck on the first. It went downhill. I cut the letter N from one of my computer fonts using the SCAL software. I think success depends on the complexity of the design and pure luck in getting your piece of fabric to stay stuck to the mat. Make sure when you cut a letter to flip it in your SCAL software. More later!

  • just got my cricut saw tis video and was excited i bought every thing in the video

but i am having problems with the fabric keeps shredding what am i doing wrong i have the expressions

  • @ashpoe I used rayon for the cupcake top and had no problems with it shredding, the bottom was cotton and I cut it out by hand.

  • i am haivng so many problems with the fabric shredding i am so frustrated i want to send it back can someone please help me

  • wow so amazing!! great help thanks

  • Hello, I am Completely a novice at this whole thing, and thanks to your video, I am going to attempt to try this using my cricut expressions in order to make a banner for my son's t-ball team. I would like to make BIG letter for the banner...so I would need a ton of that Steam a Seam 2 for each letter, right?? How much would that cost? And its Blade 6, Pressure hi, and I want to make each letter 8" (paper size)...do I need the painter's tape? I am so nervous abou messing this up.

  • OMG thank you. I am happy that you made this vidoe. It was fun and easy to understand. I do have only 2 queston where do you get the steam a seam 2 and can you use either cricut to make this project.

  • I just finished a project yesterday using Sas2. You can get it Joann Fabrics.

  • Wanted to also let you know how I successful after trying several times and failing. I used the regular blade set at 6 in my expression machine with SPEED on 3 and pressure on Hi or Max. I ironed my fabric onto the SAS2 as directed. I took off the paper backing that was still on the webbing. Faced fabric web side down. Did not need to use flip button. After loading, I used the up/down arrow so there was fabric showing before the blade began to cut. Questions -- let me know!!

  • One more thing I just remembered!! Adhere fabric to mat successfully by using a straight edge or spatula from mat instruments. I rubbed the spatula over the fabric firmly quite a few times so that the fabric stayed adhered without the tape.

That all made it work for me...

  • Thank you so much...my head is swirling with ideas. TFS!!!!!

  • THANK YOU!!! Holy cow, I tried a million different ways to cut out fabric and it did NOT work like it did in the video. Why I never tried painter's tape, I don't know .... I'm so trying this tonight!

  • I love this! I can't wait to try it out.

  • This works BEAUTIFULLY! I said I was going to wait til my girls went to bed for the night, but one is napping and the other is content, so I went ahead and tried it. Thrilled with the results!!! Love love love it! thank you!!

  • I got my cricut today and plan on trying this as soon as my girls are asleep tonight! Thanks for a great tutorial!

  • Good tip using the painters tape! I wasted a lot of material before trying this. Thanks for your help! :)

  • If i use blue tape on the paper that I got, then I don't have to buy new cutting mats, correct?

  • I love that! I'm getting my cricut today and I can't wait to try this! Thanks for sharing!

  • Great video. I plan to give it a try!

  • It workes! I am so happy. My first attempts to cut fabric with the Cricut was a disaster. I used microsuede and Heat N'Bond. You can buy Heat N'Bond by the yard for next to nothing. It's usually with the pellon. The backing kept tearing, so I peeled it off before I cut and that fixed everything. The painters tape really helped. I did speed: high, pressure: max and the blade turned to 6. Thanks Emilie!!

  • Thank You sooooooooo much for making this vidio i am making a pillow that has a word on it ang the fabric kept curling up and annoying me now i kno 2 use tape thnx

  • Hi, could anyone tell me what blades can I use to cut fabric better? I heard about some other blades compatible with the Cricut but I forgot how are they called. The ones they sell are expensive and not so great in my opinion. Thanks a lot!

  • lol. "plz dont comment on the baby chokin on the button" ur funny! Thx for the tut, luvd it. Been watin for ideas 4 cricut. Do u think a quick stich around the edge would be good to keep the edges from separating after wash? Have you had experience after washing? thx

  • If you want to do letters just put the wonder under on the back side like normal and cut it with the paper side down. Your letters will be ready to go. the fabric stays on the mat better paper side down anyway.

  • Thanks! This is a great idea :)

  • I find it works better if you put the paper side down.... no need to tape. I haven't done bumpy fabric though... will have to try it.

  • so excited to do this.....thank you for sharing.

  • Great video. You answered alot of my questions. However I have one more... How do you do letters if you are turning them over. Won't they be backwards? I have the personal cricut like you. Thanks.

  • I have the same problems as mstennille12. Ive tried wonderunder, heat n bond, steamaseam, and used hte painters tape, new mat, deep cut blade, and on. EVERY Time it pulls the paper and screws up. This is the MAIN reason I bought the cricut! HELP! Thanks

  • I actually tried the tips I saw on the cricut message board: I washed my fabric first with NO fabric softener. I used Heat-n-bond, i peeled the paper backing off the fabric, placed it fabric side up on my mat. Smoothing and stretching a little so that it is nice and tight. This will give you a clean cut. Blade on 5, pressure on max and speed on low. Use a brand new blade. Also make this blade your "fabric only blade" I got perfect cuts. I wouldn't do real intricate cuts, simple cuts are better.

  • I also used 100% cotton fabric.

  • Great tutorial. This was one of the reasons I woke up early to buy a Cricut the day after Thanksgiving! I just used it and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for the great video!

  • wow I cant wait to make a shirt

    Thank you

  • Very helpful!! So cute too!!

  • interesting! how about velvet fabric?

  • Awesome teaching skills!! You go girl!

  • Awesome! Seriously - you are my hero! I am so cutting fabric with this tomorrow!

  • This is a great tutorial! Thanks for posting!

  • What speed setting are you using? I've had a lot of trouble getting this to work. Tried everything you did in this video and still have problems. It will cut at first, but then the blade always seems to catch on the fusible backing paper and just starts dragging and tearing the paper/fabric and it's just a mess. We also tried several different types of fusible stabilizer but always have the same problem. The paper is not staying adhered to the fabric so it lifts and then the blade catches. Help!

  • I was wondering about the speed as well.

And mstennille12, you say you have tried different fusible stabilizers, but have you tried different fabrics. The video specifies 100% cotton. I wonder if that makes a difference. Also, how long are you pressing it? It is possible to overdo the pressing, as well as underdo it, if that's a word LOL

    Good luck.

  • @amjPeace We've only ever used 100% cotton, nothing else. I have another Cricut demo on Saturday so I might try it one more time but I almost think using the Sizzix to cut fabric might make more sense since there's no way for the fabric to move out of place on that.

  • @mstennille12 I am having the same problems as you and getting so frustrated with the video that makes it look so easy.

Have you resolved the problems if so please quickly tell me how. I have a project due tomorrow!!!!!????

  • @rgrover5690 I actually do the Cricut demos in my store and I've tried multiple times, multiple different ways and have only had moderate success cutting VERY BASIC shapes. As in circles, hearts, etc. My boss said that she used Heat 'N Bond in between 2 pieces of fabric and that it worked for her. I always try it with 100% cotton like a calico or fat quarter. I've tried the tape, etc. I feel like the moon and stars must have to be in alignment for this to work right. LOL

  • Thank you so much! That is so cute!

  • thank you. I have the small cricut just like the one you used. You gave me a great idea ..... I'm going to make Towels with mi kids names on them.....Thanks for the HINTS!!!!!!

  • This was helpful! I was able to cut fabric and personalize a tote bag after viewing it one time. Tip - if cutting text remember to use the "flip shapes" command before cutting! This makes the text a mirror image. If you don't do this the adhesive will be on the top of the letters and you won't be able to iron it down!

  • Thanks for the great video. You make it very simple.

  • Just what I needed to find out. Thanks for the extra tips!

  • I wanted to ask you, How can i cut out quilt squares on the cricut? I hate to buy the accuquilt, i dont want another machine

  • thank you so much for this! I been looking and asking everyone how to do this!! What if you were making a quilt? Can i take off the paper and what would I put it on? I love your ironing board cover, how did you make it?

  • Thank you so much for showing how to use material on the cricut. I am going to purchase on at Joann's tomorrow. I have asked several people how to do this and no one could tell me. I'm so thankful for you tube

  • That is SO COOL!! I have little nieces and nephews that Iove to make things for. This is a great way of using tools that I already have to do new and interesting things. Thanks so much!

  • I use also the blue tape on my really, really used mats so I don't need to buy them anymore!!!Thanks for sharing your video!!

  • Can I ask how well this holds up to washing? Do you advise adding any stitches to it?

  • this was soo cool, thanks!!

  • Love this! Loved it so much I had to try it right away but I can't keep the paper from getting in the blade. any tips?

  • Thanks to you from Alaska!

  • baby going to choke on the button.. Great Video

  • Thank you!

  • Wow how easy thank you

  • Great tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing!:)

  • AWESOME tutorial. TFS!!!

  • regarding the Steam-a-Seam 2 - the 2 means it is sticky on both sides. There are fusible webs that are sticky only on one side.

  • I follow your blog everyday! You make me laugh everyday! Your voice is not what I expected! Funny! Anyway, great vid! I can't wait to try!

  • So cute!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Great idea!!! TFS.

  • very cool! who knew? i never would have thought to do this.

  • I'm so exciting about trying this. Thanks for the great tutorial.
