  • Sounds good.

I've been thinking of getting one of those Epi 57 Goldtops mainly because they have got the same US made pickups which they used to put in the (now discontinued and highly sought after) Elitist series.Generally considered a huge improvement over a 'standard' Epi.

What is your opinion of this guitar?

  • @kingstumble

The pickups aren't the elitist ones. They're just standard epi pickups. I think people confuse this because the only 57 goldtop produced by epi was the elitist one.. the other were limited edition runs (for epi, sometimes "limited edition" only means that it will not be described on the website =P).

But the guitar is a great buy. It is a standard edition epi, with a goldtop finish, straplocks and tone push pulls for each pickup.

I plan to put a set of seymour alnico 2 pro.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Are you sure the p/u's aren't the 60SR and 60ST? Specs I've found on various sites, e.g. Guitar Village dot co dot uk and dawsons dot co dot uk--all say that they are the USA made 60SR and ST which I know were fitted to the Elitist. And neither mentions the push pull pots. Now I.m even more confused!!

  • @kingstumble

completely sure. the confusion is because the elitist was the only epi goldtop 57 that appears on the website, so the stores made this confusion.

they don't mention the tone push pulls (that switch between parallel/serie coil wiring btw), and don't mention the straplocks (altought you can see them on the photos).

the pickups are just epi standard alnico V, with individual coil wiring.

I was confused in the same manner before I bought the guitar. btw, I really love this guitar.

  • @kingstumble seens like I was wrong about the pickups.

I've changed strings, and took the oportunity to see what the pickups really are.. and for my great surprise, they weren't standard 57 epi pickups.. neither were the 60SR and 60ST.. they were something even bigger: a gibson 57 classic and a gibson 57 classic plus. take a look at this link for pictures and information about the guitar: hxxp://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/58218-epiphone-les-paul-goldtop-57-limited-edition-enp7mgnh3

  • @guilhermoadib

Do you know what? I thought they sounded too good to be standard Epi p/u's!

I've just looked at your excellent pics on the forum and they do seem to be Gibson 57s--which is a real surprise and makes the guitar an absolute bargain.

Now I'm definitely interested in getting one.

Thanks a lot for your help on this.

Oh,BTW does it have the fat 50s style neck? I really hope so coz I love fat necks--the fatter the better!
