Written by Georgia Tom, better known as Professor Thomas A. Dorsey, father of gospel music and composer of gospel gems "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "Peace In The Valley".
never heard her before, just getting interested in old blues singers, love her, Memphis Minnie, Koko Taylor and have been listening to LaVerne a lot...can you direct me to others? LOVE this music!!!
Man, when she comes back in, at 1:28 (after the instrumental), she's really belting it out! She also has that sweet-yet-gravelly tone to her voice that I hear in some of the BEST modern pop and R&B singers of today (I don't mean the fakers who can't sing in tune). This is one of the very best versions of this song I've ever heard, including the composers' versions!
That sounds like Porter Grainger on piano, and Charlie Green on trombone, and they're doing a great job!

Yes, it is Big Green (each of his conclusive note shows his style). I don't think the lyrics are so difficult... just a matter of time to get them...
