@MissNisi its a metaphor for chasing after some1 u like when they either dont notice u or not interested etc. basically, its a car crash situation.... if you find the lyrics and listen to the song whilst reading them it becomes clear.
@Edenlyspirit Basically she likes a guy but knows that they can never be together because he either doesn't like her or he does but she will never tell him how she feels. the metaphor of chasing pavement means following a path that leads no where, but she enjoys the idea so she just dreams about it.
She got soul. Who would of thought all these soulful women lived in England...and them being white. Really impressed as a black african american woman myself.
