  • I freaked at 1:18

  • lol kau means buy but in Malay kau means you lol!!!

  • bowing, so cute

  • 鹿より女の子のほうがかわいい

  • Those deers eat not only senbei but paper!!

Last year i was exchange student, and went to Todaiji for club's activity. Deers were trying to eat our script!!

  • Wow, if you notice, the deer actually learned to "bow." I've been to Nara before and didn't exactly see that kind of behavior before, but learned later that they learned to bow to receive food, after years and years of passive domestication. (Monks would bow to the deer, since they are considered guardians of the temple grounds, and the deer have learned to bow back. XD)

  • i love japan, im gunna go live there 1 day, plus deers bow too!

  • Lol how cute are they!

  • oh they're friendly how cute

  • don't see the point in feeding crap food to animals

  • Where are his antlers?

  • thay get cut off becaus thay are dangerous during the rut :-)

  • for animals we say メス オス for the sex. not おとこ おんな

  • True, but I call me female dog HER... 彼女. Personification is part of the English language that I sometimes carry over into Japanese. I don't care if it's wrong in this case.

  • well in that case, you should be referring to the male deer/dog etc... as 彼 He and Her are pronouns, nothing to do with just mentioning the sex of the animal.

  • True.

  • BTW, I am not really teaching here. I teach seriously on gimmeaflakeman. If I had made this type of mistake there, I would take down the video.

  • Soo cute! But its sad that they're so hungry :(

  • sooo cute! I love it. k lindos son esos animalitos. (n.n)

  • "I forget. 19? 20?" - ???

  • Poor deers must be starving.

  • Deers are better as sausage. Yea feed em fatten em up. lol

  • there are some deer in Tennessee that will do that lol they are so cute!!!

  • I'm scared, what if they come here and beg food from me....

  • Those deer were just attacked to the pretty asian ladies. I love deer, they are special creatures.

  • Only in Japan, will a woman run from a small deer. XD

  • Guess you havent been to Nara.

They have small horns on the top of their heads and they REALLY hurt if they butt you with them.

Also my guess is they are trying to look "kawaii"- cute.

American women rarely try to do that.

  • killer deer

  • Ragelope tiem?

  • Cute deer! They didn't seem all that threatening or hellish!

  • I was just in Nara a couple of weeks ago. I got surrounded by 3 deer and one of them put a death grip on my paper shopping bag and ate a giant chunk of it. All my souvenirs spilled on to the ground. It was pretty hilarious. Great vid, love the captioning.

  • i beat u . i went there in 2007 with my family and i got holy raped by like 20 of them. cause we got some crackers for it to eat. its soo cool and fun

  • LOL!

  • We came back to our bikes after seeing Todai-ji to find my bike on ground with some papers missing. Just a map and a Jehovah's Witness pamphlet I was given but tore up. Then a woman came up to me, explained that she saw deer eating stuff out of my bike and fought the deer to save my stuff! She gave me back the chewed up pamphlet, which she thought were photos, but the map was a gonner. LOL

  • Yeah same here.

Went 2 weeks ago with my girlfriend, whipped out some deer crackers in the middle of a park and I swear to God deer a hundred miles away heard that noise. They were EVERYWHERE!

Good things their horns were all sawed off, cuz they like butting you to get food.

  • i love animals, and once in japan im so going to visit those parts.

  • Whats nara like? I hope to get to japan someday and go there

  • Not TOO exciting, but worth a day trip. Pretty slow....

  • XD what about for an animal lover?

  • When Bambii was shaking his head at the start of the video he was saying " GET HER, GET HER!!"

  • She was BOWING.

  • Noooo the hell dear have risen from the earth!!!!

  • very cool XD

  • That was sher greatness.

  • Wow that's really cool!

  • That's a very interesting situation...And the deer get fed ok?

  • When Deer Attack... Film at 11.

  • this was an awesome vid dude!!!!! thanksss!!!!!

  • Holy crap, thats amazing. I'll have to admit I was kinda hoping you would get a better shot of the guy at the end...i wanted to see if he was cute. All well this was still a freaking awesome video. Thanks for all the translations too!!

  • awesome with the translation

  • Free Bambi!

    :D

  • I totally got attacked by deer in Nara (and Miyajima...loved Miyajima!) and it was so fun! I love those crazy deer.

I fed them a deer cracker too. Is cracker the right word? I don't know. Seems like a deer cracker.

Thanks for posting. It makes me remember a good day.

  • I went to Miyajima before going to Nara.

The deer on Miyajima were almost worse.

Saw one bite onto a woman's plastic bag she was carrying and rip it in half, all her stuff fell on the ground. Luckily the deer didnt get anything.

    Those deer are aggressive.

  • Very nice. :)

  • Just like Miyajima.

  • lol.. fun :D

  • oo i wanna go i love deer!!

  • kawai1 as jigoku!!!!

  • ´Hell deer ´? Don´t look very devilish to me .

  • those guys are cute as hell

  • When you write "...these wild deer..." I feel forced to point out that those are hardly wild.

  • Read the comment thread between me and channeireview. He beat you to the punch.

  • Someone needs to visit Nara in a Jackass-style bread suit.

  • I'll be vacationing in Tokyo and Kyoto with my family this Nov. Glad I found your channel as I am trying to pick up useful phrases.

  • Also met those deers, and they were hungry. Was sitting on a bench reading the local map when one of those buggers snap the map from my hands and eat it in front of my shocked eyes while my friends laughed their asses off. :P

  • Yep! They do stuff like that. I saw a couple ripping up t-shirts.

  • i think theres some "lucky star" animation episode with this place.

  • no lyme disease in Nara???

  • That kid's hair is awesome!

  • Lady! It's not important whither you're scary of the deer, but you're depriving the poor animals of their treats.T.T

  • I mean scared,lol even the dude got scared.Thanks for uploading~

  • awesome! The deer seem really friendly though, the ones back home are just retarded.. they're too scared to go near.

    Nice captions!

  • I enjoyed this video very much!

Its great to have visual aids when learning Japanese and also its great to SEE Japan too.

  • You should do more videos captioned like this with context. I could easily learn Japanese that way. Cool vid!

  • Deer?

  • Woooooo scary~ :D

  • Deer is something I look forward to most whenever I go to Nara. Alot of them mistakes my shirt for those crackers. They are really cute!

  • I love how you caption these videos. Nice vid Victor!

  • I seriously like these kinds of lessons!

You present a natural scenario... And you provide information to help understand the reactions and phrases. Ingenious.

    Thank you, GABM.

  • those deer are cool

  • I saw these little rat-deer when I went to Nara.

A friend of mine bought some of those crackers to feed them. The woman selling them said "Keep walking".

It was amazing how quickly the deer swarmed around my friend. They kept bowing to her but she couldn't feed them fast enough so they started to ram her with their heads.

    She managed to survive though.

    Thanks for the mini-lesson Victor.

    ありがとう

  • Yes! Thank you for vouching for the ferocity of those deer!

  • Comment removed

  • Are they called "HELL" deer because they chase the tourist until they get food? I have NEVER seen TAME deer before!

  • Nah, I call them hell deer, dear. Just for fun.

  • LOL!

  • I like it!

  • aren't those what we call feral animals? I could be wrong though. They're sooooo cute XD

  • That would be so fun to be up close to deer like that!! :)

XD @ the "Joe 6 pack" statue. :P

  • that was cute.. can i say cute? lol i mean handsome hehe

  • LMAO attack of the HELL DEER :)

  • RUN!

  • Reminds me of the dorama that came out this year called Shika Otoko Awoniyoshi... very entertaining.

  • I would hardly call those deer "wild". When I was in Miyajima by Hiroshima those deer on that Island were all over the place stealing people's back packs and purses in hopes of scoring some munchies.

Hey, is the honorific form of that ancient capital which you visited "O-Nara"?

  • More wild than deer in a petting zoo, but less wild than deer in the wilderness.

  • Well, I had a long talk with the groundskeeper and he says they are wild deer and retreat back to the mountains at night and at different times of the year. They are wild in the same way that that some raccoons will rummage through your garbage or some polar bears will eat your dogs.

  • I understand what you are saying victor. but they are pretty tame when it comes to having lost the natural fear that wild deer have of human beings. raccoons will scamper away from the garbage cans when humanoid life approaches (generally)

  • You're right, CR. I was actually thinking to myself "wild"!?!? (GABM!)! when the man said 野生 to me... but they certainly aren't pets... but yeah... for all practical purposes ... they've lost their wild edge. Let's call them stray deer. As in stray cats. Whaddaya say?

  • As in stray cats?

What an insulting comment. Their ancestor was the messenger of the God of Kasuga shrine, historically.

But you are right. The descendants have become fallen deer impudent.

  • LOL! Love the message.

  • Mmmmm! How could they be scary with ears like that!?! If i were there, I'd be nibbling on those babies, especially the ones that were bowing! <3

  • They are very aggressive! Seriously!

  • i want to ride them!

  • dude

thats awesome! i wanna go get terrorized

  • Do they have Halloween in Japan like we do?

Or do they just have year long Cosplay in Akihabara?

  • Not really. But we foreigners know how to spice things up.

  • So placid deer, when offered food, placidly accept it (have I mentioned that they are implicitly placid creatures?) and this makes them scary? Only small fluffy bunnies are more vicious.

I'm also intrigued by the astonishing longevity of those deer. Hundreds of years? Must be the diet ;o)

  • The deer don't live that long. But they have been interacting with humans in Nara for hundreds of years.

  • It's okay I get it. :o)

Tongue-in-cheek humour really doesn't work in written comments. Sorry if it seemed sarcastic: it really wasn't. Videos like these are always both fun and interesting.

    Cheers.

  • So the rumor is true. They DO bow to you.

  • Hey GABM, I was just wondering, if you don't mind. If I could add you to my friends list?

  • Too bad they're not all like Sarah Palin. Deer? Problem solved. BANG!

  • Unusual fact: It seems all of your Japanese culture videos have been attracting advertisements for Japanese dating sites... :O

I guess not even those deer could scare them away.

  • Lol, are all woman in Japan scared of deer?

  • nooooooooooooo
